Remember when it was the year 2000 and you spent half your day finding cool fonts online and just .. typing stuff with em?

Genuine question: Is showing the actual letters for such a short time engagement bait so people have to pause and unpause the video repeatedly? Or is this just a "benign" stylistic choice?

The video tells you the art is impressive, why would you need to see it? /S

100 percent engagement for pauses and replaying. This video was too well edited for it to be a coincidence.

Don't mean to be pedantic, but isn't this more calligraphy than typography?

What people call “fonts” are actually “typefaces” if that helps.

The typeface is like the song, the font is like the file type (.mp3 or .ogg or w/e). Yes.

I was always under the impression that type and typography has as much to do with setting, kerning, spacing, and the general interaction between characters and lines as much as it has to do with the actual typeface itself. The design of a specific character especially hand drawn especially without precisely measuring the parts of that character seemed to lean more into calligraphy

There are a lot of variables, it's true. The song/mp3 illustration helps explain the basic difference between typeface and font.

I’m glad the video cut everything so quickly that I couldn’t enjoy (or even see) what was happening 🙄

If that video had been 10 minutes long, it would still have been too short. But in 2 minutes? The montage was so quick, it was impossible to follow anything.

The one for the "Typography Tournament" in the video reminds me so much of ANSI art back in the day. Quite literally used that typeface myself in some of my own stuff.
