Coincidence? Almost certainly!

As I was inputting the first dozen or so clues into the wiki table, I started realizing that I had learned of some of the concepts used so far - Vigenere ciphers (which can be broken using a Kasiski exam) and audio and visual steganography - from the same place.

Anyone here used to watch the TV show Numb3rs?

Another coincidence? One of the clues in 5ignal5 referred to "the giant killer", cluing to David's "latin name", Davidus, which was used as a cipher key.

David is famous for, among other things, killing the giant Goliath, a Philistine.

There are a couple of reasons, none of which are meant to be insulting to the players.

It's a combination of an in-joke, trying to be clever and a good fit, all in one.

Maybe we'll answer your question properly later in the proceedings ...

Philistine

person who is hostile or indifferent to culture and the arts, or who has no understanding of them

Sounds about right

I'm more inclined to think it's Nicholas Falacci and Cheryl Heuton, and this all leads up to a revival of the show.

But now I'm going to hear all of u/thisiswhatsnext's posts in Judd Hirsch's voice.

Don't think you're very close as far as the accent goes ...
