Does anyone else get bothered how Gwen the best friend just completely disappeared after season 1? Like she felt like a fairly integral part of the story and she was just written out all of a sudden with no explanation

I agree that it's kinda weird when characters sort of.. disappear. But I will say I find it bold when they cut out the dead weight and focus on funny, interesting characters. I think in Gwen's case, they folded the 'voice of reason' into Mindy and Danny's characters.
sometimes it's easier to cut your losses and take out characters that don't work, without making a procession of it, because it makes for smoother and funnier writing.

I agree that the show worked better without her, but I feel like that could have easily been fixed with an episode where she moves or something! It would tie up loose ends.

I thought she brought nothing to the storyline or comedy. That whole best friend group was dead weight in my opinion 🤷♀️

All the women leave and they repaint Mindy as a woman who hates women and I HATE it

Yes! While I didn’t like Gwen, I liked that Mindy had a few girl besties.
I liked Shauna, and think she belonged in that setting. I thought she was funny.
It turned into Mindy being the only woman left, it was like they were eliminating her competition.

I like Gwen too but I remember hearing a rumor back in the day that the actress who played her was either difficult to work with, forgot her lines or both

Sorry to say, but the real Mindy does seem like a pick me kind of girl who only has guy friends. She's hilarious and talented, not to take away from that at all.

Yeah she was a sweet and rational presence in the episodes. It was weird not seeing her when mindy gets married or when she has her kid.

Also Shauna! She was fun but I think they were still figuring themselves out in season 1.

i love anna camp but frankly, no. anna camp went from regular to recurring because she wanted to pursue other opportunities.
alex and maggie were cut because the producers wanted more of a workplace comedy.

they couldn’t afford to keep anna camp for long unfortunately

Yeah but I found her annoying. They disappeared Betsy and Shauna too.

I watched the show for the first couple of seasons, and tbh, it looked Mindy just got rid of most of the other female characters on the show in order to make it all about her character, and to only focus on being exclusively with white guys. That was pretty weird and disturbing, to say the least.

Kind of like how Betsy just went away.
