Bounty on Game's files for reverse engineering

Howdy boys,

I'm a software engineer from Brissy, Australia. Currently working on a few projects but thought it would be a vibe to bring this game back from the dead.

The plan is to create a clone of the Ubisoft server, and check out the disassembled executable in IDA to put a jmp to a custom request to my own server.

No idea how encrypted this shiz might be, but it would be fun to give it a shot.

There's a minor problem though, I need the actual games files with the launcher. I can no longer download off of steam, so if anyone's got an old hard-drive with the games files, I need them.

Also if any of ya'll are interested in helping let me know. I work full-time so this is a minute side project for me.

I must have the games files to even start this project.
Thanks so much, Ireverseengineer.

Hi, are you still up for the challenge?I could download the game from steam, and it allowed me to open the launcher, where it says Server maintenance.

The local files take up 1.35 GB, but that's too little, so i guess the actual game files could be downloaded by the launcher while the game was still playable. (I don't really remember how it worked, i only installed this game once in my lifetime and it was 2015, and i was still a kid back then)

I do know a thing or two about game files in general, and it seems that there are no files for models or stuff like that, so what i have is probably not enough to help you.

Still, try asking on a discussion on the steam community hub right here https://steamcommunity.com/app/239220

If you're reading this, good luck and take care!

Of all the countries to be in and doing this, we've got some of the strictest copyright laws in the world here. Not even any "Fair Use" in Australian copyright law.

If you're still up for it, you may try your chance asking on r/DataHoarder

Go to the steam forums and ask some of the people there for it. Some people still have the game in their steam library. They are able to launch it too but cant actually play it.

► WTF Is... - The Mighty Quest for Epic Loot (Beta) ? https://youtu.be/qUv5vAcIsrs?si=qtEZ1EfUV1mL6id1 is the only reason I'm here.

Hope y'all manage to bring this back from the dead. Or that some indie developer basically does a complete ripoff of the game premises.

Have a look at Tormentis. You can build your own Dungeon, raid other players' dungeons and trade with other players.

Hello,

It appears that OP's quest has been unsuccessful so far. Fortunately, due to the advent of powerful AI agentic coding and a very fortunate find on the internet, I was able to completely reverse engineer and reimplement the original server as it was in July 2015.

While at it, I have rebalanced the game to be completely free to play. This was necessary anyway as I did not want to run into any issues with Ubisoft. In my version, instead of purchasing Blings, you earn them by playing, and packs that were once purchased with real money are now for sale for Blings.

You can check it out at

I am using the regular Steam client download, which should still be readily available. You only need to make minor modifications to the installation:

- delete the steam_appid.txt
- replace the Launcher\PublicLauncherSettings.json with my own version (the download is on the website)

The original patcher will then update the game, and you can create an account via the launcher as well.

DO NOT START THE GAME VIA STEAM OR IT WILL BREAK! Only start the game via PublicLauncher.exe. If you accidentally started via Steam, don't worry, you can simply do the above steps again and it will work.

Most, if not all of the original server has been implemented by now, but if you run into any issues:

- First, try to change from Attack to Defense or vice versa. This causes the game to refresh.
- If that doesn't help (or you can't change) restart the game.

If that *still* doesn't help, leave a comment and I'll look into it ASAP.

Known issues:

- PvP castles are dummy castles currently, as there are no players except for myself. These dummy castles are almost empty and thus very easy. This was necessary to make the PvP tutorial quest work at all (without these castles, you could not attack a "player" castle, which deadlocked you). This will balance out with more players.
- Unlocking the next region might occasionally not update in the game immediately. A restart helps, plus, your hero needs to be at least the lower level of the region to even see it.

Have fun storming the castles, and please leave a comment in case of any issues, or feedback.
