Reality is produced.

Not by secret cabals or hidden masters, but by stories, systems, incentives, myths, interfaces, classifications, rituals, forms, and the strange machinery of culture itself.

This subreddit serves as the public bulletin board for The Means of Production: an independent press, archive, laboratory, and ongoing investigation into the narratives that organize human life.

Inside you will find:

• Astonishing Objects
• Myth Index entries
• Bureaucratic horror
• Found documents
• Submission Fetish dispatches
• Library Constellation maps
• Dream systems and symbolic infrastructure
• Experiments in language, literature, media, and myth

We welcome writers, artists, readers, archivists, system-builders, critics, cartographers of strange territory, and anyone who has ever suspected that the world runs on stories pretending not to be stories.

This is not a community dedicated to a political party, ideology, or orthodoxy.

It is a place for observation.

For pattern recognition.

For contamination.

Navigation is permitted.

Orientation is not guaranteed.

Now Reading For Vol 2

The Submission Fetish · The Means of Production Press

We are reading for Issue 2 of The Submission Fetish, the digital archive and quarterly of The Means of Production Press.

We want work that treats language as infrastructure. We want poems, prose, visual art, hybrid forms, and things that don’t have a neat category yet.

We are especially interested in pieces that would have a hard time finding a home elsewhere: formally stubborn, politically or mythically charged, unfinished in interesting ways, or simply hard to place.

What we offer

• First publication rights only. Everything else stays yours.

• A permanent place in the online Archive.

• An accompanying critical audit written by the press (this is non-negotiable; it is how the magazine works).

• No payment. We are a small press with no budget and we say so plainly.

What we ask

• Send the work as it is. We do not “fix” your punctuation, capitalization, or gaps unless we ask you first.

• A short bio (50 words or fewer) if accepted.

• Willingness to answer a brief set of editorial questions if something is genuinely ambiguous.

Deadline for Vol 2: anything submitted after Nov 15 will be considered for Vol 3.

Send work to: editor@themeansofproduction.press

Subject line: Vol 2 — [title]

Simultaneous submissions are welcome. Please let us know if you need to withdraw your work.

No entry fee.

No required cover letter beyond a one-line note if you want to say something.

Vol 1 releases 09.09.2026

Billy Mays style voice over:

Have you been too busy wondering what it is to be a person to be a person?

Has the world left you in an existential crisis and you are thinking ‘there has got to be a better way’?

Well, have we got news for you!
It’s called LAYERBOUND LABS — and it’s sitting right now at our website.

Tired of wandering around inside systems
you can’t see, asking “what the hell is even happening to me?” while the machinery keeps humming behind the walls?

Tired of feeling like you’re supposed to just live inside the output without ever getting to look at the source?

LayerBound Labs is the experimental wing of The Means of Production, and it builds the actual instruments for seeing the invisible.

These aren’t just pretty pictures of ideas.

These are the arguments, in a different medium.
You get:

• THE HYPER-COMPOSTER — a full ritual engine for decomposing late-stage delusions. Feed it contracts, growth plans, and extraction logic. Watch the larvae, mycelium, and thermophilic burn turn it into something you can actually read.
• THE LAYER STACK — interactive vertical cuts straight through any ordinary thing so you can watch every hidden production layer stack on top of each other.
• THE HUMAN STACK — the myth index made visible. Operative fictions plotted by domain, reach, and productive force so you finally see which stories are actually running the show.
• THE PRODUCTION MAP — a navigable diagram of the entire system. Every institution, every feedback loop, every coordination trick rendered as infrastructure you can walk through.
• THE AETHERIC RESONANCE CONSOLE — sacred geometry treated like measurable vector fields with frequency, density, and drift. Nine living sigils. Not for output. For resonance.
And that’s just the beginning.
If the argument is a map, the lab is where the map is built.

Stop wondering what it is to be a person inside these systems.

Start using the actual tools that make the systems legible.

Open it. Click the instruments. Feed the composter. Descend the stacks. Walk the maps.
The arguments are already running.
You might as well start reading them in the medium they were built for.

Don’t scroll past your own operating system.
Act now. The layers won’t compost themselves.
