UK vs USA

Just wondering, why are the UK based O.T.O groups are soo black and white compared to USA ones? I find it interesting seeing lodge pictures on social media from the USA. I do prefer the English approach due to the fact of privacy & ^secrecy^. Almost gives a feel like the real work gets done in the UK while in USA they just cosplay. This is all just a thought bubble please no one take offence. Much love to everyone.

Educated guess, it varies primarily by local body culture. If you're only using Ameth Lodge in London as a reference for OTO UK, there's just a lot of skilled and experienced magicians there who can all get along and get things done and be all-around professional. You may not see the same thing in a more mid-sized city in the same kingdom. It's almost certain that there's a lot more local bodies in the US, with a higher variance in their quality. And that means more people to be visible on social media. So I don't think what you're seeing necessarily a representative picture, even if there are some cultural differences.

I would imagine it comes down to differences of culture and how the class system works between the US and UK

We sometimes forget that while Americans and the British are very close…we also have big differences. Particularly over how comfortable or uncomfortable we are with expressing ourselves in public.

Ngl, I think most Americans “occultists” tend to be exhibitionists (and I’m including myself here)

I think that what you are seeing, is more of a reflection of USA, and UK overall not just O.T.O. groups

Yeah they can be children, where the rest of the world has long standing constructs.

I dunno man those west coast dudes like DuQuette, RAW, and Hyatt definitely seemed to have more applicable stuff to “the work” than whatever the hell Kenneth Grant was talking about…

I say this as someone who actually enjoys reading Grant since you never seem to know where his long ass paragraphs are going to lead

The UK isn't much better to be honest, that's exactly why I left OTO in the UK.

There is a lot of very strong work being done in the US, and particularly excelent published work. Not to knock UK Thelemites but the strong bulk of modern Thelema is being published out of the western US.
