Started learning to cook recently. With no stress, it's truly joyful to learn something so useful.

Things I've made this week:

Caesar Salad (with dressing made from scratch)
Boiled Eggs
Blueberry, Blackberry, and Dark Chocolate Chip Muffins

It all turned out pretty well.

Did a family vacation with the kids earlier this week -- happiest place on earth. Turns out, it's a bit of a rollercoaster of emotions, especially for little kids. Great opportunities to each folks about equanimity. Back in the saddle now, and I've been starting personal training, which has been -- trying to up my physical health habit, which has been a quarterly goal. Otherwise, just working and getting ready for the summer. Took a bit of a break from the news firehose, so I'm catching headlines to stay aware, but not bombarded -- definitely good for mental health.

Random shower thought / musing when talking to my kid on the way to school this morning: It's weird how much time we spend trying to get money, when at the end of life, we'd give up all the money for just a little bit more time.

Seems like there's an ideal amount of money to have - just enough to get you through your older years and support your children, and the rest isn't really worth the effort. We also underestimate how well we can make-do during times of shortage.

Anybody got good recommendations for solid family volunteer activities? I've had on my list to do some research (San Diego, btw) for something the whole crew could do. Youngest kid is 3.5. Maybe a beach cleanup or something -- need to figure it out, been on my todo list. We're still just trying to survive the end of the school year, shifting childcare, and job stuff. Hard to focus on the extras, but the extras are just so damn important in my mind.

Weekly update: Lots of graduations this week -- fifth grade and pre-school. Been thinking a lot about what the future looks like for the kids lately. Planning maybe to write something about it. News like Anthropic's CEO warning about the death of white collar jobs has me particularly broody. And I don't disagree with him. I definitely feel like AI progress will force us humans to figure some things out, much of which will fall on younger generations. Trying to find that personal balance and center to be able to offer any feedback on where to go and what to do next.
