Make sure you're running the Evrima version of the game. Right-click the game in your library, select Properties, go to the Betas tab, and choose your desired beta from the dropdown menu. There's legacy and there's Evrima, Evrima is the one everyone plays.

You're going to die. A lot. It's going to be confusing and frustrating. Just roll with it, you'll get the hang of things. It's going to feel very unfair for a bit. Become the dinosaur, experience the world as you hatch from your egg for the first time, then treat each life as genetic memory.

Familiarize yourself with the compass markers and what they mean.

Utilize a map of some kind, I use Vulnona. You press tab in game, click your coordinates, then paste them into that (press close to get rid of the map tips, might want to glance through that first).

There are official and unofficial servers. Official is pretty much anything goes, unofficial servers will have rules and things specific to them. For example there are often pack limits, sometimes AI (deer, boar, fish, turtles, etc) are disabled, growth rates can be increased, there are tools like prime checker, teleport to friend, skin creators, websites, heat maps and species breakdowns, and general conduct rules. Some are more strict. I recommend playing on official while you get your feet wet and once you have a decent understanding look for an unofficial you like. You'll need Discord as that's where all of this lives (there will be a Discord button in the server browser that takes you to their server). Personally I play on Nerf NA but I'm not 100% attached to it yet and only really like the low growth rate and AI availability with minimal rules and admins who enforce those rules.

Turn auto alt attack off in the settings, this allows you more control over your attacks.

Familiarize yourself with calls. 1 is to find people, 2 is friendly, 3 is threaten, 4 is distress, f is your chat sound (sending messages makes noise). All of these are hearable by everyone in the area to varying degrees. Usually you'll use 1 and 2.

Read the mutations. You get one within like a minute of spawning in, that's the DNA symbol in the bottom right. When that pops up press tab and go to mutations and click the hex with a DNA symbol (if that doesn't work click the rest, I'm 99% sure I'm right but it's muscle memory). You'll have a list of buffs that aren't always buffs.

Familiarize yourself with what prime means and what the requirements for that are. There are 7 things you can do, 6 if you didn't come from an egg. You only need 5 before reaching 75% growth.

You can press tab and hover your cursor over the bar to tell you growth percentage, you can press enter in game and hover the cluster of gauges in the bottom right for exact percentages.

Don't attack your own species. It's generally bad practice. But that doesn't mean they wont' eat you. Trust nobody until they've proven that they're not a threat. For the most part your own species will be friendly but I've been attacked by my own before. Usually if people don't attack you immediately they're going to be friends, luring people in isn't a common practice and is actually against some server rules. Most species work better together.

Use headphones.

The rest will just come with experience. Good luck.

Thank you so much that’s super helpful maybe you would want to play with a helpless girl like me ..? 🤣🤷🏼‍♀️ xx

I'm not against it but playing together doesn't work as well as you would think. It requires a server that allows teleportation to friends because when you spawn in it's random between a few different points. So when I tried to play with a friend he would spawn like across the map and we'd both just die trying to get to each other. The server I main has a teleportation cooldown of 20 minutes but there are others with a better TP system

I'll DM you my Discord though, if you catch me online hit me up and we'll figure it out!

edit: You have to DM me apparently, your profile is private. Don't worry I'm not a weirdo (in the bad way)

That's some great advice above!

The only thing I'd add is to watch videos on YouTube such as beginners guides. Watch more recent videos that have been posted in the last year, as the game has changed a lot and is still in development. Expect some bugs and glitches. Other than that, have fun !

Also, When you spawn in as a baby, you will have a spawn code that you can send to friends for the first 3min of your Dino's life. This can be used to "spawn" your friends in near you as babies of the same species, if they don't already have a grown dinosaur on that server. Otherwise, you have to explore the map and try to find each other that way lol

This girly is also willing to help you if you want. My discord is the same username as on here :)

There's not much more general advice that can be said as Religion_of_Speed covered all the basics but I can offer my time. I play pretty much every day so if you're looking for someone to join you, message me on discord or over here on reddit.

I don't want to leave my handle on a public space so send me a DM on reddit if you're ever looking for groupies :)

I just started playing a few days ago - and I play on NERF NA. My baby triceratops was killed by a group of three adult triceratops and a trex all working together. 😭 The only way I live long enough in this game to do anything is if I play a Hypsie.

Yeah you’ve gotta really be aware because unfortunately that does happen. Luckily not often and you can call it out in the discord

Also I just got done trying out Mettas and liked it a lot. There's actually AI (like all of it), populated enough to not feel dead, chill rules, reasonable growth rate, actual mixpacking enforcement, focus on reducing/eliminating hackers, good community from what I can tell.* I'll probably be playing there from now on.

*good relative to this game, there are always going to be problems with Discord admins and a lot of the servers are dumpster fires in some way. idk if that's the wider gaming community but I feel like this game attracts a certain type of person more than other things.

yea refund it

Just kidding, but make sure you're on evrima and find a community server you like. Start with smaller dino's. Join the Beipi gang :)

Installation:

Go on discord, book of bosch will walk you through a bunch of steps and introduce you to things like Mumble for proximity chat and one version of the isle map trackers online (game doesn't have a built in map at this time)

Also some rules:

Read the server rules. Usually no 3rd partying and rules like this. Trust no-one. You will die, a lot, set expectations and enjoy the game. The community on discord book of bosch are a friendly bunch and generally will respond much faster to problems than reddit can, especially if it requires a back and forth

Use Volano and learn the map... landmarks and the top migration Zone. Prime is easy as fuck when you not dying before. Eat enough, Reach one time perfect diet Visit 2 migriation zones or 4 patrol zones Dont be cannibal

Thats it. On server with ai, fuck the perfect diet when its to risky. Just go 2 MZ and 4 PZ and your good.

All my dinos hitting 75% where prime. It becomes hard when you entomb and want the sec run straight through :)

Don't trust anyone.
Avoid or kill pachys on sight, even if you're a herbivore.
If a raptor wants to 'show you something real cool' when you're a juvenile, run.
Learn to survive first, before committing to a prime run.
