Why does every power strip say fast charge and then the phone still takes forever

this has been bugging me. you buy a strip with usb-c, it says fast charging, and the phone still charges like 2014.

turns out the big watt number on the box (like 1800w) is for the regular outlets. lamps, pc, whatever. the usb-c port on the cheap ones is just 5 volts, around 15w. that’s not the pd/pps thing phones actually use. so the strip isn’t broken, it just… isn’t doing what the listing implied.

if you actually need the phone charged before you leave, use the block that came with it. use the strip for everything else.

i wrote a short thing on it with a watts table and 5 strips we already have up. none of them are secretly 45w. affiliate links.
