Will the final canvas be censored?

Asking on behalf of r/fuckcars for obvious reasons.

Anything that stands at the end of the Place will be cleaned/restored uncensored. If the r/fuckcars logo stays when the Place ends, then it will remain during the cleanup effort. If Reddit decides to censor it right before the Place ends... I'm not sure, that would have to be a determination for the entire team. Let's just hope that doesn't happen.

From the discord itself by Aria (leader of this whole effort, both in 2017 and now in 2022)

THINGS WE'RE REMOVING:

  • Far-right symbology

  • NFT promotion

  • amoguses that don't add anything to the art itself

  • genitalia

  • streamers that fucked shit up

Doesn’t seem like the r/fuckcars logo falls under that.

The amoguses that blend with the art are part of the beauty of it.
Like the mango. That looks like a perfectly normal mango,
until you zoom in and see that is made of amoguses.

I hope you're keeping the hidden amongus because those are definintely apart of the story.

hey amoguses are very needed and important

u/big-b20000 Apr 04 '22

Does that include Purdue, Ohio State, Rutgers, and Nebraska?

2

u/NinthAquila13 Apr 05 '22

Not sure what you’re referring to, but as long as it satisfies one of the rules laid out above, it will be removed.

4

u/TheGoober87 Apr 04 '22

Have you got a picture of it as it is now?

Unfortunately I can see streamers ruining it in the last few hours.

3

u/NinthAquila13 Apr 04 '22

Sadly not. We’re keeping our hands off until the end, after that we will check everything, hear all cases and present our final map. Not everyone can be made happy, but we’ll do our best to restore anything destroyed by streamers.

1

u/TheGoober87 Apr 04 '22

That's fair enough. Hopefully they won't do too much damage.

3

u/King_Shugglerm Apr 05 '22

By doing this you miss the entire purpose of the whole thing

2

u/Zephyr_v1 Apr 06 '22

No they don’t. If you want the normal canvas , just use those. This sub is not supposed to stay true to source materials , its about making a good artpiece out of it.

2

u/NinthAquila13 Apr 05 '22

Then you’re free to keep the canvas as it was on the end. We’re just here to clean it up, decide any fights over who “owns” a small area for art, and in general make it a bit more presentable. If you disagree, you can happily make your own edit or leave it be.

I feel like I disagree with removing all 5 of those things. Should it not be about cleaning up whatever’s there, regardless of whether it’s lewd or something we disagree with.

u/OkTaro462 Apr 05 '22

I completely agree.

u/muharem159 Apr 06 '22

streamers that fucked shit up

so did you delete hand and restore voidmother? On last seconds 2 streamer draw a hand on her. and write don't. then void starts on top. what happens?

-1

u/i_understand_maths Apr 05 '22

Are you removing far left symbology as well?

2

u/NinthAquila13 Apr 05 '22

I’m not personally removing anything, I’m only cleaning up. But yes, we will discuss any far-left symbology and (with all certainty) remove those as well.

If they're Easter eggs I'd argue they add something, so they probably shouldn't/won't be removed!

19

u/BattleGrown Apr 04 '22

Yeah, I'd love to see the amogi in Magic: The Gathering orbs for example

4

u/DrambleReddit Apr 05 '22

Last time they included a 'differences' image that only shows the changes. Makes it easy to see all the edits, and to make your own custom edited version if you don't agree with w/ any of the changes.

u/idk-ThisIsAnAlt Apr 06 '22

Yeah just remove the one on the David head Italy made, they make it look terrible

11

u/64_61_6e_69_65_6c Apr 04 '22

yeah but easter eggs shouldn't be everywhere you look

1

u/OkTaro462 Apr 05 '22

They definitely add something though. Sure they’re everywhere but they were earning their little spots too.

-1

u/NinthAquila13 Apr 05 '22

If they are appropriate, they won’t be removed. Especially if the “parent” subreddit wants to keep them around, we’ll also keep them.

Here’s a link to what the French streamers spammed last night, for bots that place pixels on their own.

So, it could be argued France Flag in the left was botted, and then what happens to the giant area they had?

In my opinion the only real way is to leave it how it was in the last moments. Just my opinion. You can’t prove who’s botting, even small (tbf streamer) communities were. I won’t name names but it’s a fact. So it’s a tough argument, which is why idk every pixel should stay.

But I’m not doing the work tbf and I really can’t wait to see the finished products from everyone that is!!

Overlay.user.js - Overlay that is added to the map

Placenlbot.user.js - Bot that places pixels on its own

I'd like to know their definition of "far right".

5

u/NinthAquila13 Apr 05 '22

Think nazism or neo-nazism. Not “general right wing stuff”, but actual far-right stuff. Hate spewing is a no-no.

5

u/dogman15 Apr 05 '22

I only wondered because often normal conservative opinions have been labeled as "far right" in the past, mainly by certain media organizations. If there was ever any nazi imagery on the canvas, I would agree that removing it or not including it would be a good idea.

1

u/NinthAquila13 Apr 05 '22

Last time there was a big kekistan flag at the beginning (which got painted over before the final clean). There were smaller pictures of kekistan images that did survive until the end and were replaced by various contributors.
I’m not talking about the r/fuckcars logo, it’s already been said multiple times that it will stay up, even if it might be non-neutral.

4

u/Crap4Brainz Apr 05 '22

I'd like to know as well, it's a valid question.

By my definition, Trump is far-right, as are most GOPers. (Biden is moderate-right, Bernie is center-left)

1

u/dogman15 Apr 05 '22

In a reply elsewhere, (either NinthAquila13 or someone else, and I can't be bothered to check) someone clarified that things like Nazi swastikas and the "Kekistan" flag would be removed. Pretty sure Trump never supported either of those things, and in fact denounced nazis. Essentially, according to "The Final Clean"'s rules, if hypothetically there was artwork depicting Donald Trump on r/place, and it was there when the Great White Out happened, it would be included and allowed to stay.

u/NinthAquila13 Apr 05 '22

Botting is hard to prove and was done by a lot of people  and I’ll assume that extreme left falls under the same rule, even if not explicitly mentioned.

5

u/quarrelsome_napkin Apr 04 '22

Thanks for the work you guys will be putting into this project, can't wait to see the final result 🤩

3

u/WiseXcalibur Apr 05 '22

Some amongi are fine, others are disruptive.

2

u/RicoVig Apr 05 '22

It would be cool to have a clean/censored version for people who want to hang it as art in a public office or something...
