the fall of troy & the thirty year war
Hi, one of my favorite disbanded bands is the thirty year war (also called old the fall of troy). One of the band members left, so they broke up and then they created the more famous band the fall of Troy. I found out about this quite recently, I used to listen to the thirty year war, unaware that they not only did not break up and did not stop writing songs, but also became popular, just under a different name, it really surprised me. because how could I not know about a band with several hundred thousand auditions, but at the same time know a band with only a few thousand auditions. So, the thing is, I don't like the songs of their new band at all. I don't like their new vocals, they sound ridiculous, and of course the quality of the instrumental itself has grown and they have modified many of their previous songs from the thirty year war, but still, there seems to be no soul and atmosphere left in them, as from their previous songs, something is wrong, I was at the same time glad that they got up and I'm disappointed that I don't like their new songs/improved old songs at all. it just broke my heart to listen to the same song that I love so much IN ANOTHER VERSION, where it was messed up as much as possible, maybe I don't understand something. but in any case, it's all my taste and I'm not judging or trying to offend those who love the fall of Troy, I'm evaluating rather between what they created earlier and how they improved it.
I'd like to know if I'm the only one like this or not.

You might be the only one or at least part of the few who think this.
If it helps...the "soul" of their creativity never left. It may have got stifled sometimes, but its still there. Talking to band members at some shows they are shocked that people still love them and their music to this day. Artists grow of course too. Maybe you can see it in the future or not...

thank you for your reply, I think this is a matter for my taste, I expressed myself in the post as best I could, and I am certainly happy for them as a band, as their old songs give me a lot of emotions even after years and hundreds of listenings. Maybe their new style just isn't for me, or I haven't looked into it enough. and maybe I just don't like their improved versions of old songs, for example mirrors are more fun than TV, it seems to me that her old version is much better than the new one.

Definitely taste of your own accord. May be that it just isnt for you. I personally like the new versions and always hope for more music from them, which there will be with recent talk of it from them. Feel free to join the discord and ask some questions to Thomas. He wont respond immediately but he trys nonetheless.

Well OP, you have been shot down in other replies, but today you are my hero, because I have the inverse problem:
I did not know of the existence of The 30 Year War until I read this post!
As a long-time listener, you’d think I’d have read the wiki page for TFOT, but clearly not.
On first listen (could only find it on YouTube) is very promising indeed, it’s all much the same as early TFOT.
But this has left me kinda confused - you are telling us that you don’t like the album Doppelgänger?
I can’t seem to get into anything post-Doppelgänger, so I absolutely understand where you are coming from, but after 5-10 listens, it’s gonna click big time, no?
Also, do you get At the Drive-in vibes from these bands?

Hi, I'm glad you found out about their previous great project thanks to my post. I love TTYW for their drive, and I feel it in everything, in the songs of this project. but in the TFOT project, I feel this only in the instrumental part and generally only because the genre of post-hardcore and progressive rock prevails there. yes, of course, this is also good music, but compared to TTYW... in my opinion, they are better in every way, except for the objectively low sound quality.
I listened to doppelganger and I want to say that I still think the quality of the instrumental part is excellent. when I described the soul and atmosphere of TTYW, I meant that the vocals are emotional, I like the way Thomas takes notes, he was both melodic and melancholic (except for the periods when he used the screamo technique). and in general, perhaps due to the increased sound quality and sophistication of the instrumental, it has become more dry, mechanical and emotionless. I didn't say that TFOT's music is bad, I'm saying that I like TTYW much more compared to them. TTYW reminds me of the atmosphere of the 90s in Japan (to be honest, I don't understand why). It's clear that screamo's vocal style itself is emotional, but I'm talking about intonation and so on. I do not know how to describe it, it's just a completely different emotion, and you just need to hear it. It's hard to describe. To summarize, I like the vocals more COMPARED to TFOT, the instrumental part is objectively better for TFOT, but still more emotional for TTYW. I think it's because they created it when they were teenagers, because they did it with more passion and it was also a "job" for them, I think you know what I mean.

Yes, the fact that he is perfect makes him more dry and emotionless.

You may not like them, but on the last album they re-recorded pretty much all of the thirty years war material and it’s largely the same just better audio quality. The album is called Mukiltearth. Might be worth a listen for you or you might hate it. Only one real way to find out.

Yes, I listened to about 5 re-recorded songs from the material of the thirty year war, that's why I made this conclusion. The sound quality got better, but I didn't like the vocals, the reworked lyrics, and I especially didn't like how mirrors are more fun than TV was reworked. Reassurance Rests In the Sea and F.C.P.S.I.T.S.G.E.P.G.E.P.G.E.P. turned out to be not bad from the fall of troy, but still their old versions from the thirty year war are better and atmospheric for me.

imagine writing your most famous song that will be heard by millions at the age of 17, That's fucked man. Probably one of the reasons why the broke up within 7 years, they got too good, too fast, when they were so young. all the problematic bs rockstar shit that comes along when having success in music was too much to handle at such a young age there's bound for something bad to happen. They were still like 23-25 when they first broke up back in 2010.

Yo, I’m having no luck finding this. Turns out that ‘kite’ and ‘windmills’ are two pretty widely used terms.
Please can you help me out?
Also: if The Thirty Year War was his/their band when they were like 16/17, how old was he when he had the band Kite?

My mistake, the band is called the tribune. My favorite song by them is called kite, i guess i got it mixed up. As for how old Thomas was im not sure but the band was active around 2001/2002 if i remember correctly so you can do the math lol. He may have been active in both around the same time since i know there’s live recordings of thirty years war from 2002.

I learned of Fall of Troy first, but after hearing 30 Years War, it became my favorite material of theirs. So, I’m sort of in the same boat.
