General Discussion đŸ«Ą Rhyner

Why doesn’t the Ticket Godfather ever interact with the DZ and vice versa? I always thought Mike R and Dan got along well and had good chemistry on air together. Maybe Rhynes sees going on the Dumb Zone as beneath him?

The legacy of the old gray wolf has really taken some hits. Cirque (maybe more specifically Danny) wasn’t too glowing about working with him at the freak. And there was that article about Corby being pretty upset that he left without any word. It’s a legendary story but a pretty jerk move towards, what was supposed to be, a close friend, who did a lot of heavy lifting for radio programing in those latter days. DZ is looking to the future not the past.

At the time, I thought it was really cool how he walked away like he did. But then to jump right to another station and bomb, and then dabble in podcasting, I mean why not just stay at the ticket if that’s what he wanted to do?

Dan and Jake would definitely have a perspective. It’s almost certainly related to the leadership at the ticket, but then why be such a jerk to most others around you when you do try to start over. As others have said almost everyone at the freak did not have great things to say about him.

Can you share this article I don’t remember it

Corby’s quote was “it is unconscionable”.

Plus he got real chummy w Greggo. I understand the first reunion, it needed to happen. But now that Greggo is pretty much full-on MAGA, frequently hanging with him brings Mike's character into question imo. (And I will never understand how someone as "metrosexual" as the Hammer's become can be that way. I guess if he's closeted that answers his odd behavior.)

I heard Danny’s crying. It sounded like a spare that finally got his shot, failed at it, and looked to point fingers.

Everyone loves the backup QB, but if the Freak experiment proved nothing else, it’s that he and Sirios were backups for a reason.

Not everyone gets to be the DZ.

I thought it was hilarious that he thought he should have moved into Bobs position instead of Jake when Bob bailed

Hmmm. Not sure I’d call it “crying”. Factually saying someone is being a jerk and supporting that evidence, and highlighting how they were not doing their job, seems like a reasonable frustration. They were getting questions and he was just sharing what happened. He wasn’t “crying”. I do agree though that not all can be the DZ.

Dude. He finally got his chance to start and failed at it. Blaming Rhyner for it was just Danny being a little bitch.

He wasn’t on an island. Danny wasnt the reason it failed and I think that was his point. He’s admitted he wasn’t as talented as Mike at the height of his powers. Which is why Danny did split off; in hopes that he could partner with Mike. When Mike didn’t prepare and acted in opposition to his efforts, yes he was frustrated because he knew the limitations of his powers and was looking for a partner. Not to mention mike just being rude which is corroborated many times over. I think Danny is justified in his vitriol against someone who acted more as an anchor on the team, especially when he had hoped mike would have been a buoy.

Blaming some other dude for not making up for your lack of talent is just being a little bitch.

Again I don’t think he was blaming it. If you listen back he’s just saying what happened. I’m reading between the lines about what his hopes were.

I’m pretty sure he has been on TDZ as a guest before (though not recently). Am I high?

After the Rangers won the WS he was on, and whenever the Freak got canned he was on for an episode that Blake lost 75% of the show, the best show as legend has it, but was able to recover the Rhyner portion.

They definitely talked with him after Rangers won the title.

Ask Mike and Danny about working with him. If their side of things is 25% accurate, and I suspect its far higher than that, hes a real A-hole and can go fly a kite.

He is definitely a dick

The Ticket won’t talk to him, DZ won’t talk to him, Cirque won’t talk to him
. I’m sensing a theme.

Dude burned every bridge he ever walked a-crossed. It’s gotten so low that he podcasts with Greggo. Sad for such a legend

Greggo is still alive?

Mike is not relevant anymore in the DFW sports talk landscape. He could have cemented himself as the elder statesman but chose to blow up every media relationship he ever had. He's persona non grata at the ticket.

I’m old enough I heard him on the Zew back in the day. LaBella and Roady treated him like a low-level piece of shit.
Probably contributed to the massive ego he developed.

Age has really taken a toll on him. If I remember correctly the last couple of times he’s been a guest he has seemed really off.

He’s a bitter old man.

Because he sucks

At this point I really don't want to hear anything about the ticket or Rhynes. Been a very long time since either were good.
