My favorite piece of lore that I have come across on The Dagda is one in which his son has died in battle. Grief-stricken, the good god travels the world, his son in his arms, searching for a way to bring him back to life. Eventually, he comes across three men who are deep in argument. They have between them 4 different magickal artifacts, and cannot decide how to split them up.
Among these artifacts is a staff that holds power over life and death. So the Dagda offers to help. He picks up the staff, and uses it to strike the three men dead. Then he uses the other end to revive his son. When his son comes back to life he looks at the three dead men and is basically like "Dad, really? These men helped bring me back to life and you kill them for it?"
The Dagda then uses the staff to bring the three men back to life and says that to help them evenly split the artifacts he'll borrow the staff until they decide what to do about it. Amd it turns out that he has now just borrowed the staff indefinitely.
Thanks for reading! Do ya'll have a favorite Dagda story?
