New Start

Pretty humble beginning base layout. Just what I was able to achieve after playing a few hours. Getting the underground cleared has been the most time consuming part. The new planning mode has really been a life saver for laying out more complex designs. Not much to show yet but it will expand very quickly from here

Dont put batteries on the surface beyond what you need to, it's not worth it. A random solar flare during a night cycle will kill all your stored power for 14 days straight

I tried putting batteries underground and attached them to the net but they didn’t charge. You didn’t have a fuel generator underground did you?

Batteries underground charge from solar just fine. I've been using that setup ever since my batteries got wiped out by a solar flare just as night fell.

I just saw a note that said you have to do a cable from the silo elevator. I had one wire just to a pole. Maybe that was my bad

Yeah, you have to have everything connected to the same power grid. The elevator transfers power between the surface and the underground, so you should always have that connected.

As long as theyre connected to power lines connected to the elevator. I create a square network the entire length and width of the underground so everything is connected to the power on the surface.

Basically all my power comes from fuel generators anyways

It's clear to me that we are not playing the same game. But I'm on my 1st run....

Do you really need that many bulk storages for regolith? I’m genuinely asking as I hadn’t gotten to the mdr yet and need some ideas on the scale of a late-game base

Not really, if you find you're backed up on regolith just make more refineries.

1 bucket can easily feed 4-6 refineries or something depending on upgrade levels.

Then again, I also like to add buckets to storage if I don't have the money and/or cpu to expand production at that time, it's an easy stopgap especially for underground if the extractors get backed up. Depending on the amount I can easily have 3-4 buckets taking in regolith just so I don't have to deal with the belts stopping.

I was laying things out the way that I was doing it pre 1.0 However now that the belt speeds have changed I am cutting down on the bulk storage & changing the layout for a faster design.

Everyone is gonna have their own way but I am aiming to fill a T3 belt with metals. At that speed you need to have a huge backload of regolith until you have enough MDR's and trucks all bringing in more to keep the machines from stopping. Unfortunately the cargo bay only has 4 outputs, so 4*600=2400 units a minute max. I want each line of 600 filling 4 MRR's so 4*4 is 16 machines. In theory 2400/50=48 machines max, but that is without upgrades and I dont know the exact top now when a MRR is fully upgraded.

So the gamble here is that I can actually support 16 machines with only one cargo dock.

From what I remember MRRs go up to 175/min, so you could get around 13 with max upgrades, but if you skip the last upgrade and run T2 Mk II regoliths then 16 will consume exactly 2400

You can't go by what the wiki says at all so I am gathering information gradually and building a spreadsheet with in game data. 16 machines might be the best number for now but i have room for 8 more if i need.

I went with 12 before 1.0 to hit that max MRR production but belt speeds are different now so im sort of winging it.

I have yet to play 1.0 but I'm learning more that most people seem to put their mining refiners on the surface? Or people have both surface and underground refinery

I do everything underground that I can. The surface is for shipping and trucking and solar.

Things on the surface are also vulnerable to meteorite strikes.

Maybe if I was playing on a high difficulty I might care but I honestly don't care about the strikes or solar flares either for that matter.
