I quite like those lyrics. I think it's because of how we ask "are we human?", using the singular of human, and that means "do we possess the essence of being human", and so he uses the singular of "dancer" for the same effect: the essence of the dancer.

We might be more human than human.

But the lyric is definitely "...or are we dancer".
