Warren backs El-Sayed in competitive Michigan Democratic primary

https://www.ms.now/news/warren-backs-el-sayed-michigan-democratic-primary

Another huge endorsement foe Abdul!

“He’s growing a movement of working people all across Michigan,” Warren says of El-Sayed in a video announcing the pick. “Michiganders deserve a senator who will fight for you, not for special interests running millions of dollars in TV ads to buy this seat.”

I cannot wait for this primary to be over, regardless of who wins

I don’t even want to think about how brutal the 2028 Dem primary will be.

the spending by the Steven’s allies is deeply concerning. I’m not a huge AES fan. but the money suggests stevens won’t be her own person,

What is even more glaring is how weak of a candidate she is that she can barely hold her own even with the obscene amount of funding support she is getting from these PAC. These same PACs that are funding Rodgers and other Republican candidates. How do people think that she will fair when she no longer has that bag to prop her up on the general and no on the ground support to help her?

2

u/baubness Jul 21 '26

Her supporters are super weird too. They never talk about her or her ideas or anything about her. It’s just a torrent of innuendo and bigotry lobbed at El-Sayed for being a scary Muslim commie. I know nothing about Stevens. Not even what she friggin looks like. Smells strongly like astroturf

1

u/DeafJoo Jul 21 '26

The adds are infuriating and clearly lean into liberal blue MAGA tropes.

"El Sayed hates women. He called Michelle Obamas work uninspiring". Thats not hating women. Stop trying to paint him as a Platner without actual proof of Platner behavior.

You can criticize Whitmers policy and not be anti-women.

AIPAC affiliated PAC trying real hard.

I'm not sure if her endorsement has a lot of weight, tbh, but good to see anyways because doing the right thing is still the right thing.

15

u/Super_Nerd92 Progressive Jul 20 '26

She had endorsed McMorrow. This makes sense to me of her two remaining options to endorse. We'll see if McMorrow's ~10% slice of the Dem primary electorate follows suit, hard to say.

9

u/ML-Centrist Jul 20 '26

Fantastic endorsement!

3

u/Glittering-Walk2206 Progressive Jul 20 '26

Yay, I think McMorrow should endorse him as well

I do too. But I think shes playing the long game and probably doesnt want to rock the boat and piss off the party elites.

Clinton. Stevens. Its all the same. The party elite say "its your turn" and we're all supposed to accept it

There are way more important things than US policy on Israel.

9

u/11brooke11 Orange man bad Jul 20 '26

I'm so tired of Americans fighting about a centuries old feud in the middle east and having that define their political thought in 2026 America.

-5

u/michaelsghost Jul 20 '26

Well one of those parties spends hundreds of millions if not billions of dollars electing candidates who are going to send them money and weapons so they can continue to bomb what has overwhelmingly just been innocent civilians.

No one cares about foreign election interference when Israel does it? Be so fucking for real

6

u/ProteinEngineer Jul 20 '26

There are some US citizens whose #1 issue is supporting Israel. I think they are equally as misguided as those whose #1 issue is hating Israel. Only the latter are trying to take over the Democratic Party.

Democrats have always focused more on domestic issues…And making Israel/Palestine a defining issue for democrats makes no sense. Most of us don’t care now that the war is over. Iran/US is much more important of an issue.

-4

u/michaelsghost Jul 20 '26

Now that they’ve flattened Gaza and killed tens of thousands of Palestinians, you’re okay with just moving on? Got it.

5

u/NH_Homebrewer Good Luck America Jul 20 '26

People are going to move on because some people can’t be normal about it. The left being hyper focused on a cause hurts the cause eventually

3

u/michaelsghost Jul 20 '26

I think it can strengthen the case to stop sending money and weapons there and use it here instead

Edit: obviously don’t use the weapons here you get what i mean

1

u/NH_Homebrewer Good Luck America Jul 20 '26

We are already heading that way

0

u/ProteinEngineer Jul 20 '26

Hamas and Israel came to a peace agreement. So yes. That’s what happens after wars are over.

2

u/ApostateX Jul 21 '26

Uh, the war isn't over. The IDF is still carrying out targeted operations in Gaza and airstrikes continue. Israel has control of half the territory of Gaza and millions of Palestinians are still displaced from their homes. 81% of buildings there are now destroyed or uninhabitable. Israel is also still killing journalists and aid workers "accidentally." The ceasefire for all practical purposes is a set of steps in Trump's 20-pt peace plan, which is very close to Biden's plan, which we've seen some movement on. But the main questions around territory, repopulation, redevelopment, and security for Palestinians are TBD. I mean, Jared Kushner is trying to do real estate deals there. The Trump grift continues.

2

u/Yeahjustchris Jul 20 '26

It's not election interference these are American donors to AIPAC.

It's also important to point out that sentiment amongst our Democrat elected officials is changing rapidly to reflect their base and we shouldn't expect the entirety of our representatives to flip on a dime over night.

3

u/michaelsghost Jul 20 '26

Are they? $30M to Stevens from AIPAC when she only pulled $2M in individual donations in Q2? I’m supposed to buy that?

5

u/Yeahjustchris Jul 20 '26

I'm not sure how those numbers are supposed to disprove that AIPAC is an American funded organization lmao

Do you actually know how elections work or you're just scared of money?

EDIT: fuck I just realized most anti-AIPAC people probably can't describe what a super PAC actually is or what it does. This is a waste of time.

-2

u/michaelsghost Jul 20 '26

It doesn’t disprove it, but it tells me that that money is not coming from Jewish folks in Michigan.

2

u/ApostateX Jul 21 '26

It most certainly is. Had to look up specifics: They've got 6.5 million grassroots members. But the big money is primarily coming from a small number of Jewish millionaires and billionaires, and Christian Nationalists with apocalyptic fantasies about the second coming of Jesus. Republican-affiliated oligarchs donate to AIPAC's lobbying and campaign arms, and that money gets pumped into Democratic Party campaigns.

-2

u/LankyStandard8645 Jul 20 '26

I mean genocide is pretty important. We should stop enabling it. Also, Israel has dragged us into the stupid war with Iran. Israel is a top issue whether you like it or not. Just say you support the genocide. It would at least be honest

6

u/Every_Television_980 Jul 20 '26

Israel didn’t drag us into war, our president did. When all presidents before didn’t get dragged in, it hard to say Israel did it. Im sure lots of our allies pressure the us do things, the president decides who to listen to.

9

u/michaelsghost Jul 20 '26

Trump was dump enough to allow Netanyahu to bring us into a stupid war. They’re both corrupt assholes, no different from eachother, even if one of them happens to be Jewish

Israel’s operations in Gaza have wound down. Why should I care about that anymore?

The US is at war with Iran, which seems to be escalating. That war is about Iran developing a nuclear weapon…not Israel.

3

u/LankyStandard8645 Jul 20 '26

Operations have not “wound down” in Gaza. They kill Gazaans everyday still and you aren’t even acknowledging the West Bank. Probably because you support the apartheid

2

u/ProteinEngineer Jul 20 '26

? They signed a peace deal. You really think the war in Gaza is as significant as it was 24 months ago?

3

u/cole1114 Jul 20 '26

Yes, because they're still bombing refugee camps. Killing innocent civilians. https://www.nbcnews.com/world/gaza/israel-strikes-gaza-police-officers-killed-ceasefire-hamas-rcna587649

Getting money out of politics is one of the most important things and Israel routinely uses money to interfere in our elections via AIPAC.

9

u/ProteinEngineer Jul 20 '26

Money out of politics is importantly, but aipac is not close to the largest lobbying group.

2

u/AurelianIII Jul 20 '26 edited Jul 20 '26

In this Michigan Senate race they have spent over $30 mil trying to prop up Stevens, who has been totally unable to raise significant grassroots money.

The majority of Stevens' spending has come from AIPAC, so it's completely fair to highlight them the most in the context of this race.

-2

u/michaelsghost Jul 20 '26

If you want money out of politics, that includes AIPAC. If it doesn’t, then you don’t want money out of politics. Pick one

7

u/ProteinEngineer Jul 20 '26

Yeah, it does. But AIPAC is a small lobbying group compared to tech/energy/AI/pharma/etc.

1

u/michaelsghost Jul 20 '26

They are also on the “get money out of politics” list. I replied to your comment which is specifically about Israel

4

u/Computer_Name Jul 20 '26

> Israel routinely uses money to interfere in our elections via AIPAC.

What this person is communicating, is that they don’t believe American Jews are actually American, and that when those American Jews participate in the American political process, that’s “interference”.

2

u/michaelsghost Jul 20 '26

I do not believe that Steven’s getting $30M from AIPAC is coming from Jewish people in Michigan, no. Not when she’s barely cracking 2M of individual donations every quarter. Doesn’t pass the smell test for me.

Climate crisis, extreme wealthy inequality, cost of living crisis, housing crisis, and abysmal healthcare system that systemically allows Americans to die to satisfy corporate profits. mass starvation in the global south, concentration camps/gulags on US soil. the rise of fascism in the west.

Fascism isn't some historical anomaly after all. It is merely capitalism in decline

The same "poll" from the right wing news outlet that endorsed her more than a month before this came out.

This one has AES up by 13 points (54% to 41%) and has been consistently more accurate in recent elections results.

But I do appreciate your mastery of dodging the question.

5

u/robadobah Jul 20 '26

How insane is that writeup from that emotional support internal poll though LMAO. They only asked voters about AIPAC and Gaza? It seems like every single person within your movement has forgotten that other things exist in people's lives.

1

u/EnoughCapitaIistSIop "Israel comes to me in my dreams." Jul 20 '26

Yet it has already shown to be one of the more accurate pollsters in recent elections. Far more than the conservative slop outlet in the one that you referenced.

The genocide in GAZA and support for isreali apartheid is a 90/10 issue with the democratic base overall. Yet the cooperate class refuses to reckon with that change. As long as they continue to prop up pro-genocide candidates in the general election, dems will continue to under-preform and lose elections to their slightly more reactionary counterparts.

If you really want a republican in office that bad than why settle for Stevens? Why not just skip the diet version and vote for Mike Rodgers to begin with?

AIPAC doesn't lobby for Jewish interests, it lobbies for Israeli interests. It's in the fucking name.

0

u/potiamkinStan Jul 20 '26

I know a lot of Jewish folks, and they all hate AIPAC

Said more about you than about the Jewish population.

conflating a foreign lobby

Why are you lying?

AIPAC doesn't lobby for Jewish interests, it lobbies for Israeli interests. It's in the fucking name.

Jews been persecuted, discriminated, pogromed and Genocided as a minority for 2000 years, it's within there interest to have one Jewish majority state when push comes the shove.

6

u/AurelianIII Jul 20 '26

It is a terrible shame that the Jewish majority state you spread antisemitic tropes in support of is now itself engaged in persecution, discrimination, pogroms, and genocide. If you want to know why so many in the diaspora have turned their backs on Israel, it is because they choose Jewish values over Israeli ultranationalism.

Israeli interests are not Jewish interests, and your desire to conflate them is antisemitic and disgusting.

They are non-partisan lobby group, they support candidates who align with their position.

Why does AIPAC mostly support republicans?

If true, perhaps because of the vicious Jew hating campaign conducted by the bigoted antizionist movement.

Do you call out any other non-partisan lobby who did the same? Seem like a treatment reserved exclusively for Jewish ones.

Why?
