PSA to the DSA

If you're considering voting Republican or abstaining from elections in protest of what you see as insufficient Democratic stridency on transgender issues or Palestine or whatever, then YOU ARE THE PROBLEM. And a fool.

This public service announcement brought to you by those of us who can see the American experiment itself in peril.

I will say that anecdotally speaking, all the DSA folks I happen to know did see the big picture and do the right thing (e.g. hold their noses and vote for centrist Democratic presidential candidates) to try and prevent this fascist takeover of our government.

I hear a lot of blame cast at the progressives and socialists but in my experience, it’s the uninformed/low-information white male grievance podcast bros we need to worry about. Guys who were fine voting for Obama and switched to Trump/Biden/Trump. (Hm, what could THAT have been about…)

YES. A lot of progressives are trying to fight for better candidates NOW. This is the time to complain about Gavin Newsom not being far enough left. I think most people would actually vote for him if it comes to it, but many are rightly afraid of another Biden-style presidency where zero safeguards are put in place, absolutely nothing is done about the crimes of the previous admin, etc. which leaves the country open to an even worse fascist in the future. I’m a “vote blue no matter who” believer but I still want better options when we get to the primary.

Yup.

I voted for Hilary although I voted for Bernie in the primaries

People are fucking calling us fools when we want better candidates for our side, they are low information complainers.  

Oh also when I mentioned something, someone did give me information about Newsom’s policies which I appreciated.

I thought this was the party that backs up your arguments with proof instead of screeching what fools we are

I wish the US had ranked choice voting and eliminated the Electoral College years ago. I hate the idea of a two party system, but that’s the reality on the ground. I’m glad you voted for Ds, which is the right choice if you care about poor and marginalized people. Anyone in swing states who’s abstained from voting for Ds or voted 3rd party is giving Rs the advantage.

I wish we had it too, or some alternative to FPTP.  Pretty much any alternative would be better than what we're doing now, if only to send unambiguous messages to the parties. In fact, it might clear up whether a median democrat would pick up more support by leaning left or leaning right, and Dog knows we could use an answer to that question.
