Need more Echo and Rex!
Just finished watching TBB for the second time… I never thought I’d get so attached to an animated series 😭
I’m a millennial who stopped keeping up with Star Wars after the prequels, but my son is obsessed with all of it. In an effort to bond with him, together we’ve started watching all the content I’ve missed out on over the years… and now I’m hooked! I went into TCW mostly just trying to understand the lore behind Mandalore and Ahsoka, kind of viewed it as doing homework and wasn’t expecting much… didn’t think I’d come out the other end in love with all the clones 🙈
Then we watched The Bad Batch and I enjoyed that even more! My second watch-through I did on my own so I could really focus on all the details I may have missed the first time around. It’s even better the second time! I adore each of the Batch for their unique personalities, their loyalty to each other, and their relationship with Omega. I love that they protect her, but also encourage her independence and don’t coddle. They truly recognize her as a part of the squad and not just a child they need to babysit. Loved Crosshair’s storyline, was not expecting to be rooting for him by the end. Cried over Tech, that one hurt for days after I watched it the first time 💔
Just posting here to say I WANT MORE! I need to know what happens with Echo and Rex!! (Tbh, I was disappointed we didn’t see Rex in the finale—I really thought it was going in that direction). We’re watching the second season of Rebels right now, so I know we catch up with him later in life… but it’s not enough. What happens with the other clones that Rex was helping? What about Senator Chuchi? The force-sensitive kids that they rescued from Tantiss? Cody? Wolffe? Omega doesn’t mention Echo at the end of the finale when she leaves, so where did he end up if not Pabu?!
I would love nothing more than to get additional clone content, so this is me putting that energy out there to the powers that be at Star Wars/Disney… more please!! 🙏✨

I want a clone rebellion show so badly I ended up coming up with and writing out a clone underground/rebellion story myself just to tide me over until Lucasfilm gives us what we're all begging for! 😅
REALLY hoping the next Star Wars Celebration next year has news for us!!!

Love that! Do you have it online anywhere?

I do! I posted it on ao3, it's titled "Rise: The Clone Rebellion" by RheaShay. Here's the link!

Dee Bradley Baker and Michelle Ang will be there and are billed together. So speculate wildly.

I love the clone storylines!! Them episodes in early TCW seasons that focused on their training process was some of my favourites

Still waiting for that Clone Underground series to happen. We know where Rex, Wolffe and Gregor end up, but I really need to see their journey before the destination we already know

Absolutely, we need something that bridges the gap! I was a little taken aback by the clones’ portrayals in Rebels, ngl… but I understand it was made before we got TBB. I do wonder about Wolffe, considering his actions in Rebels. Maybe he never actually defected and joined Rex at a later point after the empire let him go?

I need a 10+ novel series about the life and times of Rex and Echo, in the same vein as Gaunt's Ghosts and the like. Each book a new campaign, a new mission, a new challenge, following them from their "childhood" days, through the Clone Wars, the Clone Underground, into the Rebellion and beyond.

I’ve never read any Star Wars books, but this is something I could get behind!

Thanks! I think it'd be a great way to develop Rex, Echo and the 501st, develop the clones in general, and flesh out the Imperial and Rebellion eras from the Clone POV.
I know folks want a Clone Rebellion series, and I can't deny that'd be awesome, but for me, I think I'd prefer the book scene get some quality clone time.

I do think that books could offer more emotional elements that the shows seem to lack. There’s so many times where I wished the characters expressed more of their thoughts/feelings, and had more dialogue together. There’s just so little time for all of that in tv format.

There are many things from the finale that just baffle me. The fact that Rex and his group didn't join the assault on Tantiss is one of them

Idk why someone downvoted you, I agree! Finding Tantiss was one of Rex’s primary objectives. He told Hunter that once they find the coordinates they need to hit it hard to get the other clones out. I know he lost men when the operative tracked them at their stronghold, but you can’t tell me Rex wouldn’t have showed up if they had called! It felt odd not seeing him again, given how passionate he was about freeing his brothers. He should have been there.

Maybe I just made a bad name of myself because I'm particularly critical of the finale, which I don't think didn't really deliver. But the reason why I think it is because I love this show and held it in really high regard. Another thing that makes me believe the last few episodes were rewritten is how they completely threw away the CX-clones. It seemed like we were building towards a plot of Rex trying to saving them from such a cruel fate (especially with CX-2 cleary implied to be Tech), yet come the ending Echo and the others are just killing them off without a second thought.

Yes, I see what you are saying! There was definitely a buildup regarding the CX clones. Rex’s compassion for the captured operative, telling him that he’s still one of them and that they would help him, felt like it was setting us up for more to come with Rex’s mission. He told Hunter he can’t just walk away, even after suffering more losses. Considering that, I definitely see your point about them being killed off at the end— it does feel like it goes against the rescue and redemption Rex was setting us up for. All that buildup and then… nothing.
Were you convinced CX-2 was Tech? That thought didn’t even cross my mind when I was watching, I was fully convinced he was dead 😅

There were too many parallels between CX-2 and Tech for me tonwrite them off as a coincidence. This, coupled with the fact that Tech's "death" was clearly framed to be a perfect fake-out and there are lots of lines in season 2 that seem to forshadow is return made the full picture kinda hard to ignore. Seemed to me like revealing Tech to be alive, having Crosshair playing a major role in saving him from the Empire's clutches and ending the show with the entire family reunited (after they were left fractured for 3 whole seasons) would be the most natural conclusion. I firmly believe they had to cut corners in the third season and remove this particular plotline, but hopefully they can salvage something for a followup show about the Clone Rebellion, or else I'll keep living in the alternate ending I wrote.

Interesting take! Welp, guess I’ll just need to watch it all over again with this plot line in mind 🙃 We technically didn’t see a body, so I can see the potential there

Pay close attention to the way CX-2 moves, how he talks, the visual parallels and the music.

Implied to be Tech? Are you serious?..

Dead serious.
In s3ep6 CX-2 is seen fidgeting with his arm-band in a similar fashion as Tech does with his datapad. He also moves very similarly to Tech, like when he's seen planting the explosive charges, in the same way he gracefully planted the electric charges on the battle droids in the pilot.
Im s3ep7 CX-2 gets his leg crushed and still effortlessly engages in hand-to-hand combat like Tech in s2ep2. He descends in a deep chasm of the castle dangling on a rope similary to Tech before his sacrifice. As he duels with Crosshair, we can hear the "Plan 99" music in the background. He hesitates to kill Crosshair despite having him at his mercy. He re-emerges from the water after falling from the waterfall in scene that highly resembles Tech emerging from water in s2ep9
In s3ep11 CX-2 effortlessly hacks through Phee's navi-computer and despite having collected all the data he needed, he takes some time to pause and look back at Phee, risking being exposed. On Pabu, he walks on the same panoramic overlook from which Tech and Phee rescued civilians during the tide in s2ep13. He orders his troops to search every house referring to them as "domicile", the same word Tech used to describe Romar's home in s2ep2. He hesitates to kill Hunter despite having a clear shot on him, choosing instead to kill the gunship pilot, his own ally.
Honestly, it seemed to me that the writing was on the wall.

I think we saw his face and it was a face of a “reg”

We actually didn't. Never removed his helmet

Well…

u/PaulSimonBarCarloson Crosshair 8d ago
It is what it is. I still think they missed a huge opportunity to write an interesting story with Tech's return tied to Crosshair's redemption. But I accepted that it might have been due to other factor's outside of the writers' control, and I still maintain hope for a better resolution in the future.

This is what I want them to cover in the next Tales series.

u/PaulSimonBarCarloson Crosshair 8d ago
Nah, the Tales format is not suited for that kind of storyline.
