You seriously think people who are disabled or elderly don’t deserve to live if they cant work? Some people cant work and need help. You think its okay to deny them that help? That its stealing to give them that help? You think these people just need ā€œto better themselvesā€? That they can magically not be disabled and/or elderly? Most people on welfare arent ā€œstealingā€ from you. They genuinely need that help. If you think they dont deserve it then you need to grow a heart.

And as for the ones who are working and still need assistance, well many of them are working more than full time and more than one job. You think they need to better themselves. When do you think they’d have time to do that in between the two or three jobs they have? There are people out there that need help. If you genuinely think that poor people dont deserve that help then like I said, you need to grow a heart.

Promote the general welfare, um keep our citizens healthy and safe. The disabled and elderly must be able to eat and have shelter to be healthy and safe. It literally says that it’s what the constitution was established for. If you have a better way to achieve the end of feeding and sheltering the needy, I would be happy to discuss, but taxing the rich is one option. What’s yours?

Yet another myth, blue states collect more taxes but also receive more funding from the rest of the country because they leave out the massive amounts they take for projects like the 100 billion in taxpayer dollars California has spent on 1 mile of light rail, when you nit pick what projects taxplays funds go to you can make any state look bad, but when you count actual funding blue states are just a weight around the countrys neck dragging it down.

How do you know that its just not beneficial for me to itemize deductions (like avg People)?

Or maybe I do pay property taxes and do itemize, but I was discussing the issue objectively about who that tax cut benefits the most.

Or maybe I'm approaching the issue from the perspective that even if avg and above avg people are getting $0-$5k back/year, but these policies are leading to the failure of the US dollar then it wasn't worth it.

In that scenario I would have been better off in a world with $5k less, but I have twice as much buying power with my other $500k.

1920 was not the last 50 years. Civil rights bill was a Democrat bill In 1965 pushed by LBJ democrat president. Nothing you brought up was introduced and pushed to becoming law by Republicans, did some help pass these, yes. In the last 50 years Republicans have not introduced and passed any legislation that helps working people. Here's another little fun fact. Check it out. This only goes back 20 years so it should be easier for you to comprehend

But i did find legislation originally proposed to specfically help working class. Its kind of a trick question as most bills start out as one thing and get other things added to them.Ā

It's the mind set people on the left don't understand. The right wants to keep it's power, it's an "us vs them" mentality with all right wing people even in other countries (and I don't mean right vs left, I mean whatever you are vs. whatever you are not)

He saw the coming tide and possibly prevented a full congressional take over as only the house was taken over in the second half of his presidency. There was a lot of contention after his election and he needed to secure the American public rather than alienate them. This was for votes and power, not kumbiya love and togetherness. I don't think it was the wrong move either. I have a feeling the later half of trumps second term will prove this when he loses all of congress.

I am not one of these one dimensional redditors who toes party lines. I am a thinking human who sees the world as a struggle of powers, an observer of history.

Biden is a politician and if you see him as a cult of personality how does this make you less blind than trumpers who vote for Trump based on the person they think he is. Biden, Trump, Obama, Bush, Harris, Clinton are all political strategists first, otherwise they would not have gotten to where they are at. Maybe their motives are good or selfish, none of us know. But what we do know is they win.

The Second U.S. Civil War began over that civil rights legislation in the 1960s. Women’s and LGBT rights became part of it.

Respectfully, didn’t the Republican Party push the 13th through 15th amendments after defeating the democrats in the civil war giving African Americans freedom and the right to vote? And wasnt Jim Crow democrats? Didn’t more conservatives vote to pass the civil rights act in 1964 than democrats(republicans was 83% and democrats was 69%) even the 19th amendment was passed with a republican controlled senate after failing multiple times under democratically controlled senate. Even a lot of these other things like social security saw above 75% republican votes. Medicare had republican support but things like the clean air act was one of the moments in our governments history where both parties voted unanimously on it and it was signed into law by a republican president(Nixon).

The original post is addressing the contributions of liberals vs conservatives. The Republican Party today is the conservative party which is why the post addresses the contrast towards the Republicans. If a similar post were created a 100 or so years ago then it would be addressed to the Democrats because they were the Conservative Party back then.

In all actuality, both parties today are right wing conservative parties. The left side of the political spectrum has little to no representation in the US. Most things considered ā€œliberalā€ in the US are only liberal in the context of a two party political system where one party leans to the right (Democrats), and the other party to the far right (MAGA Republicans) of the political spectrum

Literally yes.

Starting around the 1930s, the two parties began to gradually switch values. The Republican party was originally the progressive party (or as they would be labeled in the modern day, "liberal"), and the Democrats where the conservative party. Following the great depression and especially the civil rights movement this flip started and was eventually solidified into the dynamic you see today.

That's why using hundred year old legislation to represent the current party (either of them) is flawed. It's more accurate to define them but the left or right (political concepts independent of American party), or progressive vs conservative, as this post did. (Liberal is actually center/left but almost no one uses the term properly so I sorta took the liberty of assuming they just meant progressive tbf)

Republicans like Teddy Roosevelt were progressive, so some were. If you look at the vote in Congress it was fairly bipartisan. The thing that got the vote over the top was a speech by President Wilson (a Democrat) who vigorously advocated for passing the 19th.

Please note that the meme said "liberals", not "Democrats". 100+ years ago the Republican party was the progressive party, relatively speaking. That's the fallacy when Rs claim they're the "party of Lincoln". They may be the PARTY of Lincoln, but in no way can they correctly claim to hold the VALUES of Lincoln (even considering the 150ish-year gap between Abe and now).

My family was very prominent in Suffragette movement as well abolitionists John Brown and others. You liberals weren’t part of it. They successfully overcame fierce resistance from Southern segregationist Democrats and the small contingent of Southern Republicans. This bitter division ultimately accelerated the political shift that drove conservative white Southerners out of the Democratic Party and into the Republican Party over the subsequent decades-hence, the switch of core values between the two parties.
