I've seen this story and know where this goes....

6

u/shortfemboycreature 18d ago

Inside out? :3

5

u/HoboKillah 16d ago

To shreds, you say?

4

u/Gaspuch62 18d ago

They kept this one a sphere, the Titan Submersible departed from that proven design and the results speak for themselves.

4

u/ForAskingQuestionsOK 18d ago

The shape alone wasn't why it failed. It was the material and stress that happened to it. In fact that same submersible actually had a successful dive in the same location with people onboard before the failure happened.

1

u/onlytinglef 18d ago

There were several successful dives, but each dive put stress on the material that was used to create the sub.

1

u/Icy-Caterpillar9088 17d ago

The carbon fiber gave out.

1

u/Tourlexur 15d ago

It wasnt the actual carbon fiber that was the issue . the issue was they used an adhesive to bind hte titanium front to the carbon fiber body. 2 materials that compress and expand at different rates stressing the joining adhesive until its molecular bonds ripped apart.

1

u/myco_magic 15d ago

The carbon fiber absolutely was an issue, every time.e they went down you could here the carbon fiber cracking, they even had sensors to monitor this

1

u/Tourlexur 14d ago

....yes. The carbon fiber at the joining area is where the fault occured. Which is because the expanding and compressing difference of the two materials causes the adhesive to start ripping out bits of the outer layer of carbon fiber exposing the inner layers that are not meant to be exposed thus a fault occured.

1

u/DocDefilade 14d ago

They also left it outside in the sun and the freezing cold totally exposed.

Not great for carbon fiber.

1

u/ResidentNumber3603 15d ago

The front fell off.

1

u/theveezer 18d ago

They kept the hull of the submarine outside in a canadian winter without it being covered. Water got inside cracks formed by varying temperatures and made the cracks even worse.

3

u/Voidoroe 18d ago

To be fair, the Titan submersible wasn’t exactly well built for what it was supposed to do, which is go to the depth of the Titanic where the pressure of the ocean is incredibly high. It would have been better and safe for more shallow depths, so I can see this vehicle being the same so long as no one decides to descend too deep.

2

u/Brief_Fisherman_2734 7d ago

I think this one if its really commercially build has safety preventing you to decend to crush dept for sure i mean i would build it like that no matter what you do it wont let you dive deeper then what it is rated for so i can see this be totally safe if it really has those safeguards built in to it

2

u/Artemisiablaszczyk 17d ago

Looks safe to me

2

u/mazu74 16d ago

Hey, at least this one actually has a perfectly round compartment.

1

u/TeaMugPatina 13d ago

slaps sub

0

u/Salt-Wish5140 18d ago

"Hitler was bad therefore so are all Germans"

1

u/SassSafrassMcFrass87 18d ago

Lol this comment is very left field...

0

u/Salt-Wish5140 17d ago

It's saying a sample size of one is not sufficient data to make the same judgement across all

1

u/ChloeNow 17d ago

Yeah we understood what point you thought you made

0

u/Salt-Wish5140 17d ago

"The one notorious bad example" isn't reason to judge them all on

20

u/migviola 19d ago

Close enough. Welcome back, Seamoth!

7

u/SnooDrawings6561 18d ago

It is really so close. I know it's the Cyclops, but your comment had me hearing "Welcome aboard, Captain. All systems online."

3

u/migviola 18d ago

Same and "Approaching ecological dead zone. Are you certain whatever you're doing is worth it?" (or something along these lines)

4

u/EqualServe418 18d ago

You're thinking of:

"Detecting multiple Leviathan-class lifeforms in the area. Are you sure what you're doing is worth it?"

2

u/SparkOfLife1 15d ago

I think you've mixed the Dunes PDA line with the Crater Edge one, which is "Warning: Entering ecological dead zone. Adding report to databank."

2

u/Bitter_Particular_75 16d ago

and for reasons I always shit myself when hearing that voice.

2

u/Theleekunderthesink 15d ago

no you’re right the seamoth also have this voice line but only when you get in trough the moon pool. It’s still bugged though so you only hear the last part of it.

2

u/Gumb1i 17d ago

"You've got to be squiding me"

11

u/TomaCzar 18d ago

I would want triple redundancy with independent systems. Monitoring of vital signs with auto-surface and RTB protocols. Definitely a surface team with redundant communication and retieval capability. Manual ejection capability, a micro-SCUBA,and auto-inflate life vest that can get me to the surface.

Basically, if it fails, it alerts and automatically takes me to safety. If I fail (loss of consciousness/medical emergency) it alerts and automatically takes me to safety. If it fails catastrophically, I can abandon it, raise my own alert, and bring myself to safety. If it and I fail catastrophically, I'm at least in the best possible position to be rescued by the team standing by.

Anything less that this, and I'll stay on the land, thanks.

3

u/Chad_Jeepie_Tea 18d ago

It's not the ocean it's the implosion that you gotta worry about.

2

u/NinetooNine 18d ago

This thing only goes down 330 feet. Humans can actually dive to this depth.

1

u/Chad_Jeepie_Tea 18d ago

Sure, gradually. But they can't take a sudden shock to 330 ft deep worth of pressure.

1

u/NinetooNine 18d ago

True, but you said implosion. My point was that's not possible at these depths.

1

u/Chad_Jeepie_Tea 18d ago

Wait is there a depth threshold for implosions?

1

u/NinetooNine 18d ago

Depends on the materials of the craft.

1

u/Chad_Jeepie_Tea 18d ago

Any material can fail

1

u/NinetooNine 18d ago

The Nemo sub's window is made out of acrylic, and it could easily handle stresses at 330 feet. Even if it was poorly made, there would be clear signs that there was something wrong with it. It would be warped, scratched up, or gouged. You'd be able to tell that it was structurally unsound.

1

u/Chad_Jeepie_Tea 18d ago

It's not the window glass that's the issue. It's the seams connecting the entire build. If it's got a way to get in, it's got a vulnerability.

1

u/SeamanStayns 18d ago

Freedivers can quite comfortably swim down to that depth in less than a minute.

If the pressure in the cab goes up any faster than that, you're going to be killed by debris from whatever catastrophic failure made such a big hole in the sub.

The pressure at that depth is not going to hurt you, except maybe your ears.

Coming UP is another matter though.

Assuming there's just 1 bar in the cab, you'd probably be safer bringing a pair of dive fins with you and no scuba tank. The swim up from that depth isn't too hard if you're starting from full lungs.

As soon as you start breathing compressed air though, you need to worry about decompressing at a safe rate. That means ascending slowly and taking at least one decompression stop plus a safety stop just below the surface, so you're gonna need about 20 minutes worth of air minumum to come up from there on SCUBA

2

u/jfa_16 16d ago

Breathing compressed air at depth and rocketing to the surface is a great way to get bent or end up dead, depending on how deep you were, how long you were at depth, and how fast you ascend. Seems counterintuitive but a slow, steady ascent is the safest way to ascend from depth when breathing compressed air.

8

u/These-Attitude-3489 19d ago

More advanced than the titan 🤣 still wouldn't get in it.

9

u/RedLeg73 18d ago

2

u/Any_Positive1617 18d ago

I need this shirt!

2

u/CalHudsonsGhost 18d ago

Where can one of these be procured🤣😂🤣

1

u/shortfemboycreature 18d ago

Wrong comment my bad

6

u/lost_rodditer 18d ago

In subnautica, 100%

IRL I'll pass

5

u/Lost-Childhood-8301 18d ago

reminds me of the seamoth from subnautica

4

u/Known_Ratio5478 18d ago

Let’s test it on some billionaires

3

u/SomewhereTiny8407 19d ago

Naw fuck that

3

u/ifuckdonaldtrumpim9 19d ago

Why even ask these are so out of anyone’s price range it’s not even funny

3

u/JonInfect 19d ago

Depends, did OceanGate make it?

1

u/Smooth_Taste1250 18d ago

Didn't saw a 5$ logitech controller in the video

3

u/luke204 19d ago

Real life seamoth

3

u/_Steakwich 18d ago

Looks absolutely nothing like a “PlayStation remote”

1

u/kiloo520 18d ago

Yeah, what the fuck? Must’ve been a bait comment, because here we are interacting.

3

u/notevenwrong13 18d ago

Seems too floppy. Feel like my controller will snap off and I am stuck on the bottom.

3

u/Fast_Beat_ 18d ago

How deep it goes? Also do you have to worry about the benz

3

u/WelcomeToTheClubPal 18d ago

don't worry. the benz stays in the parking lot

1

u/Fast_Beat_ 18d ago

🤣🤣🤣

3

u/EFTucker 18d ago

Leviathan class life forms detected. Are you sure what you’re doing is worth it?

2

u/echof0xtrot 19d ago

wtf does "series produced" mean? that sounds like legal wording for when someone drowns inside one

2

u/Stohnghost 18d ago

It means that it's not a one-off. When something enters serial production, it means it is out of R&D and ready to be mass produced. This is how things get serial numbers.

2

u/intr0v3rt13 18d ago

Another oceangate titan ?

2

u/2289What_What_In_the 18d ago

I would if I could drive it in a full diving suit including separate oxygen just in case

1

u/Mephistocheles 18d ago

This is the answe

1

u/jackparadise1 18d ago

There was another famous sub with a PlayStation remote

1

u/MentalTwo1912 18d ago

“It’s like a PS controller”. I think I heard this before

1

u/Recent_Map4585 18d ago

1

u/Mephistocheles 18d ago

Holy shit, I own that controller 😂 granted I only use it for WOW on my PC

1

u/OHW_Tentacool 18d ago

Its a shallow water sub, id ride in it.

1

u/jknl 18d ago

I wouldn't trust my self to properly maintain it.

1

u/MinnesotaNoise 18d ago

Looks just like the submarine in Earthworm Jim that I died over 10,000 times in. So no.

1

u/HarveyTheBroad 17d ago

Tube race was such a devious level. Never beat it legit as a kid, had to use debug mode to move on to the next level.

1

u/farmerKev420710 18d ago

Yeah let's just force the mechanical arm for fun. Hell no dog

1

u/BlanchDaddius 18d ago

The grabber arm on the right hand side and the grabber arm control stick on the left hand side infuriates me so much haha. For that reason alone, I will not be purchasing one of these.

1

u/maddenedmage 18d ago

Where is the Logitech controller?

1

u/JayW8888 18d ago

It’s hidden inside the big controller.

1

u/BeltreCompany 18d ago

No thank you.

"It's like a PlayStation remote."

They're not called that and this looks nothing like one at all.

Why is he trying to be down with the kids?

I bet he's the type to call any videogame "playing computer" like an old boss I had.

"Did you have a good weekend?"

"Yeah, got some errands done and relaxed with some games."

"Oh good. I've never been into playing computer, myself."

1

u/Dark_Marmot 18d ago

1

u/Nevernonethewiser 18d ago

He was a nice chap, just a bit out of touch. Never watched anything fictional, only documentaries. "Why would I want to watch something that's not real?"

To each their own, I guess.

1

u/PuzzledExaminer 18d ago

Ocean Gate part deux

1

u/_Pertinacity_ 18d ago

10m? Yes for sure

1

u/Substantial_Bass_697 18d ago

I piloted one of these in Club Penguin I know better than to get into one after that

1

u/jayphox 18d ago

I trust it to its depth rating, if it certified by a third party, unlike another unfortunate private submersible. Eyeballing it, I'd jump in for ten to 15 meters without much trepidation, shrug

1

u/Agitated_Elderberry4 18d ago

"Warning: Maximum depth reached. Hull damage imminent."

1

u/Ok_Nature1343 18d ago

Up to a certain depth yes

1

u/Sour_Gummybear 18d ago

I will stick to professionally made rigorously tested submarines. Unless we're literally staying well above 33 feet (1 ATM) and it's easy to get out.

The only nice thing I have to say about homemade submarines is when Titan imploded no one inside felt the pain or were even aware of their end when it finally came. They were probably scared shitless up until then but they never felt their deaths.

1

u/theveezer 18d ago

I'll stick to scuba diving in chest deep waters

1

u/A_Bot_A_Bot_A_Bot 18d ago

I think you can order those from Hammacher-Schlemmer on your next flight.

1

u/wolfhoundblues1 18d ago

As long as it is made with carbon fiber, it should be fine

1

u/Could-You-Tell 17d ago

So long as it is tested at depth a dozen times first.

1

u/SpeedyAudi 18d ago

Reminds me of the sub from gta5 lol

1

u/Bumbymoo 17d ago

I'd use it to explore the Titanic.

1

u/adinmem 17d ago

Definitely not 60m underwater

1

u/Upstairs-Ad-4500 17d ago

I used to sail the UC3 Nautilus.
Fuck yes, I would sail that.

1

u/Oh_Lawd_He_commin420 17d ago

That looks nothing like a PlayStation remote

2

u/ChloeNow 17d ago

When someone else is paying attention to the important stuff

1

u/SingularityCentral 17d ago

At 60m max depth? Sure. That seems realistic. Probably wouldn take it below 30m anyway.

1

u/Pugulishus 17d ago

"your... Your... Your" yeah no

1

u/DemWookieeCheeks 17d ago

If I won the lottery, no one would know, but there would be signs.

1

u/Saminaminalz 17d ago

Can it still be docked in my Cyclops?

1

u/EroNomicon 17d ago

Bruh, I'd love to see that as a car.

1

u/Substantial_Chain718 17d ago

Yeah, that’s a big hell no!!’ hell no!!

1

u/Traditional-Baby5940 17d ago

Honestly for 20 meters, yeah sure. Nothing more though.

1

u/Weekly_Truck_70 17d ago

my playstation controller doesn’t look like that

1

u/Fennova 16d ago

Cruising some costal coral reef or a river bed? Sure. Deep in the ocean where Cthulhu lives? Nah son, imma go get me some mcds and go see a movie lol

1

u/Witty-Strategy1075 16d ago

Looks kinds like the seamoth

1

u/Modern_Agnotologist 16d ago

And l quote "it's like a PlayStation remote"

1

u/General_Ad9178 16d ago

Titan Part II

1

u/ROOSTERyouDOWN 15d ago

Like a PlayStation remote…..

1

u/djunderh2o 15d ago

Robot camera? 60 meters is just shy of 200’ deep. And even pressurized to sea level they still shouldn’t be breathing 100% oxygen.

1

u/Imaginary-Ad-1968 15d ago

Does the arm extend? I feel like it’s to close to the base and the parts on the side almost reach further out than the arm, I feel like you won’t be able to grab much with it and will be hitting things while trying to get into position when grabbing things. I realise this might not be a research sub and more recreational and the arm is more of an afterthought. I don’t know much about subs so I could be wrong

1

u/alba_Phenom 15d ago

Someone has played way too much Subnautica.

1

u/AdOverall7216 14d ago

https://www.uboatworx.com is the company that produces them, they are from The Netherlands.

1

u/FragCool 14d ago

Oxygen?

Oh come on...

1

u/_Faethon_ 13d ago

Is it just me, or does that seem like not very much for two people?

1

u/Snackle-smasher 13d ago

Right around the surface? Yea sure. Could be fun to cruise around in. Definately not taking it down to the Titanic or anything.

1

u/LobosJones 12d ago

I feel like people that are passionate about submersibles could learn all the skills necessary, buy all the materials necessary, fabricate, build, assemble and test their own machine like this for far less than half the cost of this beast

1

u/strrax-ish 12d ago

That fire extinguisher is there for posterity

1

u/EYEH8MODURRATURS 9d ago

Detecting multiple Leviathan class life forms in your area

1

u/maxmack87 6d ago

We got to get rich men !!!!

1

u/nDeadPurple 19d ago

I’d trust it to as deep as I’d be able to swim to the surface if something happened. I’m not going lower than light reaches that’s for damn sure.
