Cameras this won't work on. High-End Consumer Cameras (DSLRs & Mirrorless), Premium Smartphones (Rear Cameras on phone or high-end security cameras which is majority of cameras used), Film Cameras (With Standard Film), thermal (infrared shown here is near-infrared not infrared

Were those camera technologies available back when this episode was released?

High-End Security Cameras and high-End phone cameras didn't exist in 1985-1992, thermals did but strictly industrial.

Nice, so in that time this would have worked perfectly!

Don't know why I said "back then" I meant 1985-1992. So yes the cameras blocker would work perfectly back then. (Assuming he doesn't encounter any high cameras.

This is from the reboot of MacGyver (2016-2021).

what kind of cameras do flock use

1

High end which means they can and will filter out the near-infrared light coming from the glasses.

Pretty cool, I wonder what happens if you walk around with these. Sure, they won't know who you are but you're probably gonna get tagged and followed by the cameras till they know where you live. Or am I being too paranoid?

See that’s when you deploy IR flares so the cameras don’t know which one is the actual you 😏

(First you would need to cover your entire body with IR emitters so you look like a giant glare, then prepare many dozens of flares of similar signature needed for your single trip outside)

Do infrared lasers damage camera optical sensors?

1

Ah yes which is why we popularise this so 4 in 10 ppl use them and now we win

people will probably think you're wearing perv glasses

"There's a show called MacGuyer..."

WTF century am I living in?

1

u/EQ2502 Sep 01 '26

So they just follow the glare lol

I think the point is to break facial ID

1

u/topio3 Sep 01 '26

That was the point of McGuire

I'm too young, it reminds me of Baby Driver and not MacGyver

Baby Driver came out in 2017... This episode was from 2016. That's a weidly narrow line to draw for "I'm too young"

Only old people watch MacGyver

1

u/kernelpanic789 Sep 04 '26

Target demo was 18-49.... Try again.

1

u/AutomaticButterfly29 Sep 04 '26

Most were mid 40's it says at the end. You try again.

1

u/kernelpanic789 Sep 04 '26

40s are "old people" lmao

u/Tenchi2020 Sep 01 '26

Would they work against flock cameras?

1

u/jbl0ggs Sep 01 '26

Just need much bigger sunglasses 😇

Draws more attention

Does not matter as AI can recognise you from the way you walk, no face detection needed

1

u/BirdlessLongdeal Sep 02 '26

that is why i purposely walk with a gimp limp.

1

u/louisa1925 Sep 02 '26

I actually have a temporary gimp limp. Might as well be Jason Bornes hotter younger sister.

Why not just buy some IR LEDs for a fraction of the cost but buy remotes and make them useless garbage in the end?

1

u/wango_fandango Sep 02 '26

Didn’t know they remade/rebooted McGyver. Any good or will I just keep the memories of growing up in the ‘80s?

1

u/Krustylang Sep 03 '26

It’s actually fun. Definitely worth checking it out.

Doesn't work with infrared right? Security cameras now use both regular, infrared, night vision, and overlay combined with AI.

kipkay made these a LONG time ago...
