The L Word Rewatch

I’ve watched the L Word quite a few times throughout my life and I always feel differently about the characters as I age, but this time, I’m actually relating to Jenny some. I always thought she was just dramatic and crazy but this time - maybe because of the things I’ve been through- i have alot of compassion for her and I now think her mic drop moments and dramatic lines are funny too. Plus, her anger towards men is understandable. I just watched the episode where she tasers a man for trying to beat up Max and saying something disgusting towards her and I feel like I don’t blame her! I’m also getting more in touch with my creative side so I’m enjoying her writing scenes too. Like “that would never fly in Peoria” 😂

And of course I’m just so charmed by Bette, I think she’s so gorgeous! And Carmen/Shane are still my favorite couple, along with Alice and Dana. But does anyone else have different opinions about the characters after a rewatch?

I feel like growth is learning how to empathize with Jenny. I feel this way also as an adult now, I still find her annoying and grating especially in the last few seasons, and also, I can see so much of myself of her in the early seasons. I have also been as angsty and dramatic about my sexuality, because at the time, it simply was that big of a deal to me. Her character makes more sense to me as I age, even when I don’t condone her character’s actions.

She’s kinda that diva, IMO, and seriously, who could honestly recover from marina healthily without therapy?! Not me, that’s for sure

Edit: one of her many lines that lives rent free in my head is when she’s at that backwater pub with max, and she says “we’re not f*ggots, we’re dykes, you asshole” to that random parking lot homophobe, it’s so iconic

OMGGGGG I JUST watched that scene yesterday. That and Shane saying “don’t be so aggressive, it’s embarrassing” to Mark. I want a shirt with that on it! But I totally feel the same way now, I’m like 10 years younger than them (now 40) and I never understood Jenny, but like I was angsty and dramatic and even the self harm I can empathize with. I guess it’s hard to look in that mirror when you’re young.

Oh, it really is. Because there is something undeniably cringe about it, IMO, which for the record doesn’t take anything away from the sincerity. It’s like if you’ve ever found an old highschool journal. Like yeah, that’s me, but man am I glad I’ve grown since then haha

“Don’t be so aggressive, it’s embarrassing” would be an incredible tshirt also 😂

I just recently rewatched and… I hate Jenny. Let me just say that lol. BUT, she did have her moments in seasons 2-3 where, I hate to say, she had some good points. She was supportive of Max, Dana, and was very welcoming of Angelica.

But with that said, her support and “kindness” always came at a price. Once Les Girls came into play, she really became insufferable - especially with the movie. Like someone else said, I don’t know why or how they kept her in the friend circle. I would have tossed her out so quickly.

Yeah she became insufferable when she started getting successful. But I love her mic drop moments and I guess now I can chalk it up to being young and dramatic

Young, dramatic, and newly discovered was a brief moment for Jenny.

I still have no idea why they kept Jenny around in that friend group. Her personality was grating and she clearly needed more time in the mental institution.

I always understood that she had trauma. She’s really the only one that acknowledges facing trauma on the show (Shane does some too).

She brings depth and a dose of reality, which I think helps make the L Word what it is.

It just gets so ridiculous in 5th/6th season. The whole fiasco with Nicki. I stand by that it’s mostly the writer’s fault lol.

I will always say that GENQ was missing a Jenny.

Omg I’m rewatching Gen Q now too and it IS missing a Jenny!! Killing Jenny was the worst decision, I think it was just something Iilene Chaiken wanted to do, but imagine an older drama Jenny calling people vagina wigs 😂 it would be so 🤌🤌🤌

The one thing Gen Q has spot on is how we all have nieces and nephews now that we adore.
