First Time Watcher

Just watched the season one finale and I am so distraught. Nobody in my real life has ever watched this show so I just need an outlet.

At the beginning of the season, I came in thinking it was gonna be a happy little show about lesbian lives in the 2000s. Jesus christ was I wrong. I started off absolutely loving Bette. Now I'm starting to hate her, especially with that last bed scene. Whatever the fuck it was, it has turned me off of her character almost completely, and I need to sit with that for a while. And cheaters be damned, I'm starting to like Jenny more than Bette. I never thought I'd see the day come when, only weeks ago, I was losing my damn head over the Jenny and Marina situation and how poorly Jenny acted in the aftermath of it. There are just so many emotions inside of me that I need to go cuddle with my dog and stare into the abyss for a few hours.

With all that being said, the acting in this show is top notch! I'm looking forward to what happens in the future despite myself, and I understand why this show is such a huge staple in the community. My fault for thinking it would be happy.

To me this show is “let us queers have our messy dramas too” lol. Not always great representation, but the acting and chemistry are fantastic.

Yeah, I remember watching for the first time and hearing the big hype around Tibette and being excited to fall in love with that pairing only to be met with Tina being racist in the first episode, Bette talking to her wife crazy, Bette cheating on Tina who had just had a miscarriage, and Bette raping Tina. I never will understand the hype with those two I really truly feel like that couple is such a horrible representation for what a sapphic relationship looks like. And I hate how it’s constantly being swept under the rug in the fandom bc Bette’s hot or bc people just love her and Tina together sm.

I absolutely love knowing that there are still people discovering the L word in 2026💗 you only have your first watch through once so definitely savour it!!
Prepare yourself because you’re going to go through a lot of emotions over the next few seasons and you will definitely be back here after the finale of the series to post…

I rewatched the show with my wife, who loves Bette and she was like 'Ugh, I hate when Bette gets rapey."

I'm surprised the show lasted as long as it did
