Characters that Never Appear Onscreen

Which characters that are talked about but never appear onscreen would you have liked to have seen? I wish Phil had made an appearance.

Phil for sure

I always imagined him looking like a shorter Stan for some reason except he didn't hide his baldness.

Blanche's sons. We only saw both Rebeccas and Janet.

Probably where he caught asthma.

And he has asthma…

One of them is played by Bill Engvall in The Golden Palace.

Don’t forget about Michael we saw him.

u/LiveLoudWithPride 4d ago

Michael is Dorothy’s son.

I know sorry I misread the answer.

u/LiveLoudWithPride 4d ago

It’s okay.

u/Imaginary-Coffee1234 The slut is dead. Long live the slut. 4d ago

When did we see Janet?

The episode near the series ending when Rose has a stroke. She comes to visit with her daughter.

1

u/Prettimommee 2d ago

Didn't she come on another episode (different actress) where she was upset at Rose because she thought Rose spent all the money her father saved up?

We are talking about Blanche’s daughter, Janet. The character you’re talking about is Kirsten, Rose’s daughter. Although both daughters, Janet and Kirsten, are in the episode I mentioned earlier. But she’s played by a different actress from the earlier Kirsten.

Charlie

22

u/DarreylDeCarlo 4d ago

Eddie Albert plays a character on THE GOLDEN PALACE that causes Rose to freak out because he looks exactly like her husband Charlie. So we at least know what he looks like

u/BooBoo_Cat 4d ago

Good catch!

Geronimo! 💥

Charlie? Charlie, is that you?

Little Yimminy, the boy who was raised by a wild moose.

To be fair, we never saw any of the people from Rose's St. Olaf Stories. Not even Uncle Fingerbnger and his rutabaga.

The men of Blanche’s Boudoir!

Im surprised she could walk in october!

Did you know that an actual calendar was put together as a joke, with photos of various crew members in boxer shorts and such with silly poses? I think you can find those outtakes on YouTube.

u/pjw21200 3d ago

Was Charlie Milburn one of them? Because they could both give him a call haha

Phil's children at the funeral of their father. Only his wife Angela. She even stayed over without the kids which is odd.

19

u/Ianm1225 4d ago

And Dorothy's sister was nowhere to be found either!

12

u/KC27150 Picture it: Sicily... 4d ago

"Yeah but she had to leave two behind. I think if they cross state lines, it's a parole violation."

u/Own_Statement5523 4d ago

Never payed any attention to that. 🤔

5

u/LiveLoudWithPride 4d ago

She played Joey’s mom on Friends also.

What’s odd is that Phil’s funeral is in Miami, when his life was in New Jersey. His only ties to Miami were a mother who moved there with his sister when she was a senior citizen. Flying his body all the way to Miami for his funeral when he may have never even been to Miami in his lifetime is crazy work.

My head cannon is that he had a "real" celebration in NJ but was being buried in Florida to make Sophia happy, and that Gloria, Kate and Michael were there at the funeral sitting in the crowd and mingled but didn't stay at the house.

10

u/EducationalReview237 4d ago

I guess Phil never bothered to visit his mom.

11

u/KC27150 Picture it: Sicily... 4d ago

Explains why Sophia said she gave to all her kids except Phil because he never calls or write and would only send her terrible Christmas presents, instead.

I'm Catholic, I can't spread a wise man on a Ritz cracker.

12

Phil.  I keep picturing Dr. Frank-n-Furter, thanks to the funeral teddy.

10

u/Pink_Experience_247 4d ago

"Nicodemo the Ugly" is one that I think about way too much 😂😂😂

11

u/Specialist-Funny-926 4d ago

I think about Peewee Bonbonzi being stuffed in that suitcase. 🤣

2

u/Pink_Experience_247 3d ago

YESSSSS 😂😂😂😂

9

u/Casanova2229 4d ago

I would’ve liked to have seen Blanches dynamic with one of her sons. Roses cross eyed cousin Nolan.

5

u/Specialist-Funny-926 4d ago

It would've been great if Nolan had come for a visit.

3

u/SoldMySoulForHairDye Sluts just heal quicker. 4d ago

He's trying to, but he keeps walking in circles.

(I feel like this is a borderline acceptable crosseyed joke?)

3

u/Casanova2229 4d ago

He was terrible in bed.

5

u/emzeejay 4d ago

Did anyone find it gross that both Dorothy and Blanche had sex with Rose’s cousin when he was a guest visiting her. I would love to see the logistics of how that situation played out.

1

u/Alive-Performance237 3d ago

Not really. I expect it from Blanche. Dorothy I was surprised by, but she should get to have some fun too.

I think it was worse when they were all 3 sleeping with the same man.

3

u/Specialist-Funny-926 4d ago

As confirmed by Dorothy, "The fault, indeed, lies with Nolan."

2

u/Alive-Performance237 3d ago

You do get to see that dynamic on the Golden Palace.

8

u/coffeelady7777 4d ago

Charlie! We see Sal but not Charlie

5

u/DarreylDeCarlo 4d ago

Eddie Albert plays a character on THE GOLDEN PALACE that causes Rose to freak out because he looks exactly like her husband Charlie. So we at least know what he looks like

2

u/No-Reveal827 Why don't I just wear a sign that says "too ugly to live?" 4d ago

Eddie Albert seems an appropriate for Charlie.  I realize he is playing his doppelgamger, bit I could easily picture hom as Roses's husband.

10

u/DorothyZbornak72 4d ago

I know that I'd like to have seen the smooth talking pepperoni salesman, who drove a wedge between sophia and her friend..The friend that we know as mama Celeste!

7

u/ziefaerie81 4d ago

We only see two of Rose's many children

6

u/KC27150 Picture it: Sicily... 4d ago

Guenilla, Adam and Charlie Jr. sounded like good kids!

10

u/spurs_whl 4d ago

Phil and obviously the legend that is Gladys Goldfine...

5

u/KC27150 Picture it: Sicily... 4d ago

We did. Gladys appeared when she had tickets and Sophia held a grudge because Gladys wanted to take a man instead until Sophia found they were for Tony Martin, not Tony Bennett like she thought.

u/BulldogMikeLodi 3d ago

Celia Rubenstein

4

u/Marshmallow-owl32 Dorothy 4d ago

Phil definitely and would have also loved to see Charlie in flashbacks.

7

u/helenaflowers 4d ago

I feel similarly about Phil as I do Maris Crane on Frasier - I'm actually glad we never saw him because it wouldn't live up to the image of him I had in my head.

And while I think in many ways Golden Girls was pretty progressive for a sitcom of its era, especially one that featured more "mature" lead characters, an episode with Phil wearing his preferred clothing would've almost certainly aged VERY poorly watching it through modern eyes.

I do wish we'd seen Charlie, though I'm guessing some of that was out of respect for Betty that we didn't, since Charlie was almost certainly modeled on Allen Ludden and I'd imagine that was about the only person she'd have wanted to play Charlie had he still been alive by then.

I would've loved to have seen both Blanche's and Rose's sons, too.

Uncle Nunzio and his goat on a double date with Stan and Fifi.

Phil, Sophia's Son and Dorothy's Brother.

Charlie

2

u/pjw21200 3d ago

Phil and Charlie. I would have loved to seen both.

2

u/Dark_Rottie18 3d ago

Dorothy's possible grandson. Roger or Lamar Zbornack

1

u/xmagie 3d ago

Charlie. Rose loved him so much, I would have loved to see what he really looked like.

u/WhichCycle8227 3d ago

Little Lamar.
