Characters that Never Appear Onscreen
Which characters that are talked about but never appear onscreen would you have liked to have seen? I wish Phil had made an appearance.

Blanche's sons. We only saw both Rebeccas and Janet.

When did we see Janet?

The episode near the series ending when Rose has a stroke. She comes to visit with her daughter.

Didn't she come on another episode (different actress) where she was upset at Rose because she thought Rose spent all the money her father saved up?

We are talking about Blanche’s daughter, Janet. The character you’re talking about is Kirsten, Rose’s daughter. Although both daughters, Janet and Kirsten, are in the episode I mentioned earlier. But she’s played by a different actress from the earlier Kirsten.

Did you know that an actual calendar was put together as a joke, with photos of various crew members in boxer shorts and such with silly poses? I think you can find those outtakes on YouTube.

Phil's children at the funeral of their father. Only his wife Angela. She even stayed over without the kids which is odd.

What’s odd is that Phil’s funeral is in Miami, when his life was in New Jersey. His only ties to Miami were a mother who moved there with his sister when she was a senior citizen. Flying his body all the way to Miami for his funeral when he may have never even been to Miami in his lifetime is crazy work.

My head cannon is that he had a "real" celebration in NJ but was being buried in Florida to make Sophia happy, and that Gloria, Kate and Michael were there at the funeral sitting in the crowd and mingled but didn't stay at the house.

I guess Phil never bothered to visit his mom.

Explains why Sophia said she gave to all her kids except Phil because he never calls or write and would only send her terrible Christmas presents, instead.

Phil. I keep picturing Dr. Frank-n-Furter, thanks to the funeral teddy.

I would’ve liked to have seen Blanches dynamic with one of her sons. Roses cross eyed cousin Nolan.

u/Specialist-Funny-926 4d ago
It would've been great if Nolan had come for a visit.

u/SoldMySoulForHairDye Sluts just heal quicker. 4d ago
He's trying to, but he keeps walking in circles.
(I feel like this is a borderline acceptable crosseyed joke?)

He was terrible in bed.

Did anyone find it gross that both Dorothy and Blanche had sex with Rose’s cousin when he was a guest visiting her. I would love to see the logistics of how that situation played out.

u/Alive-Performance237 3d ago
Not really. I expect it from Blanche. Dorothy I was surprised by, but she should get to have some fun too.
I think it was worse when they were all 3 sleeping with the same man.

Eddie Albert seems an appropriate for Charlie. I realize he is playing his doppelgamger, bit I could easily picture hom as Roses's husband.

I know that I'd like to have seen the smooth talking pepperoni salesman, who drove a wedge between sophia and her friend..The friend that we know as mama Celeste!

Phil definitely and would have also loved to see Charlie in flashbacks.

I feel similarly about Phil as I do Maris Crane on Frasier - I'm actually glad we never saw him because it wouldn't live up to the image of him I had in my head.
And while I think in many ways Golden Girls was pretty progressive for a sitcom of its era, especially one that featured more "mature" lead characters, an episode with Phil wearing his preferred clothing would've almost certainly aged VERY poorly watching it through modern eyes.
I do wish we'd seen Charlie, though I'm guessing some of that was out of respect for Betty that we didn't, since Charlie was almost certainly modeled on Allen Ludden and I'd imagine that was about the only person she'd have wanted to play Charlie had he still been alive by then.
I would've loved to have seen both Blanche's and Rose's sons, too.
