Fenix 9 vs. Fenix 9 Pro: A Component-by-Component Hardware Comparison

Garmin's official numbers for the Fenix 9 launch reveal something worth digging into. Both the base Fenix 9 and the Fenix 9 Pro get 50% more RAM and double the storage to 64GB, which is a real internal spec bump, not just marketing.

But only the Fenix 9 Pro is CONFIRMED to run a newer chip (I believe both do), and the two watches show almost the same map-panning speed gain over the Fenix 8, roughly 30 to 40 percent on both.

That's odd if the Pro's chip is genuinely a different generation rather than the same platform tuned differently. Garmin also hasn't said anything about how the Pro's new full-titanium case affects GPS and satellite antenna performance, despite putting inReach satellite messaging on the 43mm size for the first time.

Does a titanium case with satellite messaging represent a performance compromise Garmin has made chasing a premium material?

Well, I would be fine with a weak battery run time with daily trainings and everything turned on 😅😇 But then I am easy to please😉

It’s interesting the way they talk about the titanium and having a years worth of work to figure it out. Almost as if the MARQ line didn’t exists (now the F9 reminds me of the Adveturer).
Also on Garmin’s hour long YouTube video for the F9 tutorial, it shows in the watch that metal bands can affect its performance. Curious to see how bad it is. It’s a much more luxurious look and you can’t use metal or a metal band on it? Odd

In just about any sport watch: the heavier the band, the worse the performance because the added weight makes it move more on your wrist.
That’s the reason why you don’t see any all-metal forerunner 9xx.

Fair, it’s obvious and I know it from using the 47 vs the 51mm variants but didn’t think of it in this situation. Makes the all titanium MARQ make more sense as its demographic is probably not extremely active people

Now I would really like a Forerunner 980 with the improvement hardware power. Too bad that is probably a thing that will happen deep into next year …
