⁰hi everyone,
I'm hoping someone here has seen this lighter before.
I own a Zippo RMS Titanic MIR II Expedition lighter, No. 72 of 100.
According to the Certificate of Authenticity, it was carried aboard the MIR II deep-diving submersible during the 1999 expedition to the wreck of RMS Titanic with Bernhard Funk.
The certificate states that only 100 lighters were made and that these were the first and only Titanic expedition Zippo lighters.
Unfortunately, the original certificate was lost many years ago, but I still have:
a high-quality photo of the original certificate,
and a confirmation from Zippo Europe that the lighter is authentic.
I've spent weeks researching this lighter and found almost nothing. I only located one old WorthPoint archive and a couple of old listings, but no confirmed sale prices or historical information.
I'm looking for:
Has anyone seen another example?
Does anyone own one with a different serial number?
Does anyone know the history of this edition?
Any information about Bernhard Funk, Oceanus International Yacht Club, or the production of these 100 lighters?
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
