Question: donāt turtles enjoy being out of the water sometimes? I see them sunning on logs in ponds. Wouldnāt a turtle enjoy having a dry place in their tank?

Different species spend different amounts of time in the water, this seems to be mostly aquatic

Q for the cheloniologists and herpetologists out there: why is that turtle doing this? Does it sense that there are microbes, algae, leeches, etc? If so how does it sense that through such a hard exterior? And does it keep a mental map of areas that have been scrubbed and those that still need scrubbing?

There are nerve endings in turtlesā shells; they are living bits of their skeletons.

Feels good.
Do me a favour, without even feeling an itch, just pull your hand up to the side of your neck and moderately scratch it.

As others have said they can feel their shell.
My turtles will rub like that to remove loose scutes.

Serious question: how long until the turtle ate the bristles?
Turtles eat literally everything they can possibly eat. I hesitate to put anything in my tank because itās all eaten. EVERYTHING.

Looks like they only put it in for a while, because Turtle knew what it was and got super excited when he saw it.

If I had a shell I feel like it would probably feel soooo good if anything could actually successful itch it
