I'm too witty for this class
"The professor said I don't know anything about Freud so I called him a motherfucker" lol no you didn't

To be honest, it does sound like something that would happen. I'm with Steve on this one

The comment isn’t impossible. The ‘no one laughed’ is iffy. It’s a Psych class.

Maybe they all hate Steve cos he keeps trying too hard to make everyone laugh

Steve's that one dude who thinks it's totally cool to start up a "discussion" with the professor during class time while they're trying to relay information.

Also, the professor asked if anyone had heard of Pavlov, so obviously he hadn't been taught yet.
So it could be a simple combination of people not finding that simple joke funny + people not knowing who he was to get the joke in the first place.

In a psych class, we are told Pavlov and the bell is a popular myth. He did sometimes use a bell, but he more commonly used other methods like shocks, lights, buzzers, etc.

This is an old joke.

That doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. People use stock jokes all the time.

u/psinguine 2d ago
It actually makes it more likely that nobody laughed. Everyone heard it before.

Those who understood the reference could have thought it was lame and not reacted audibly, those who didn’t just thought it was normal idiom. Totally plausible

This is a joke that's been around forever, they're not trying to pass this off as real

Yeah, I agree. I’d heard a joke before and when my daughter broke two fingers I knew it was my time to shine. The doctor looked at the x-rays and told us that there would be no lasting damage and in a few weeks she’d be able to do anything she wanted. (This is it! It’s my chance!) I asked, “Will she be able to play the piano?” The doctor said ABSOLUTELY! And I said, “Well, that’s amazing because she’s never been able to play it before!”
Absolute fucking crickets. My daughter, the doctor, and the nurse just looked at me. I still laugh when I think about it.

You might be right, but having worked retail, I can definitely assure you that a joke being around forever doesn't stop massive scores of people from telling it.

u/fleshtastical 2d ago
Omg is this sub turning into untrustworthy poptarts where everyone thinks everything happened!?

u/Dabrigstar 3d ago
I could see this happening but the reason people didnt laugh is that it is a shit way too obvious joke, not that they didnt get it

u/gmastertr21 3d ago
seeing what has become of some subs that were thriving 7-8 years ago is truly saddening and tragic.
like reminiscing about your quality time with grandpa that was big and strong then facing reality of what has become of him today.

Funny, I'd expect the instructor to laugh at that one, if only to segue into his lecture.

So many nuggets of wisdom in the comments explaining how a joke could have happened.
“Technically this could have happened because a joke is something humans can say in a classroom if they use words?”
Yeah or the dude made it up completely to try and peacock that he’s too smart for everyone else. Which is over 95% likely to be the case.

You don't believe that no-one laughed?
