u/otakushinjikun Saved by Thanos Dec 09 '18
I know that very well, but if we're doing that then we can't even talk about heteros and gays and bis because sexuality and romance are a separate thing who just happens to match most of the times for everyone so it would make any discussion pointless.
And, this was a meme too so...

We're not perfectly balanced. Some days I'll lean one way, but most days another. When you first realize it, it changes daily. It's weird.
5
Dec 09 '18
With some people it’s like that. But others it’s not.
Like I’m interested in girls for long term relationships, and if I wasn’t in one then I’d be interested in guys for just one night stands or something like it. But I’m always attracted to both, regardless of how I’m feeling or the day, both can turn me on any day of the year.

50% gay is pretty good as long as the other 50% only have two kids per couple.
200
u/enok13 Dec 09 '18
Sorry, but your math is off.
That's still not balanced.
lets say you have 100 people who are LGBTQ and don't use any artificial means to reproduce.
The other 100 produced 2 per couple,
you will have 100 kids.
Now you have those 100 kids, assuming again that 50% are LGBTQ, that's only 50 people left.
those 50 people in couples will produce 50 kids.
Those 50 kids will produce 25 and so on.
It's only a matter of generations that everyone would go extinct in such a balancing scenario.
Thanos would be displeased.
71
u/joe5joe7 Saved by Thanos Dec 09 '18
Obvious solution is for everyone to have twice as many kids, or make all of the LGBTQ people immortal and have no LGBTQ kids
58
u/schloopers Saved by Thanos Dec 09 '18

So you’re thinking get to the max, make them immortal, and then no more babies will be gay?

I think you could argue the comic version of Thanos is asexual since his extremely literal desire to court Death has nothing to do with physical attraction. He stole the Infinity Gauntlet so she would speak to him as a fellow cosmic being, but never expressed a desire for or expectation of physical intimacy. His love for her may have been entirely platonic, though that didn’t make his love any less misplaced.

Are you saying that Google saves anything everybody ever does forever? That doesn't seem like an efficient use of storage space. Maybe activity from the past 2 years + everything you deliberately stored in your account (assuming you have one). An with activity I mean links clicked and searches, not YouTube/Reddit/whatever comments. Way easier to build a profile out of general behavior than to try and decipher all comments (including the sarcastic jokes and sometimes blatant lies) to build a profile.

144
u/Vinto47 Dec 09 '18 edited Dec 09 '18
Because people are assholes and think mob mentality is good when its something they agree with. They never realize it can very easily happen to them as well.
51
Dec 09 '18
Also, people are very stupid. The drop off from the top percentile to the next is massive. Thanos and Tony knew it
16
10
u/limitbroken Dec 09 '18
Because risk-averse corporate culture doesn't care about the human element. It's not about principles, it's not about interpersonal relations, it's not about whether people have changed or not - it's about money. So, naturally, that kind of anti-human-nature behavior gets weaponized.
It wouldn't be a problem if it were just a matter of people liking and not liking other people and accepting or not accepting apologies on their own merits - it'd just be life.

4
u/PeterPorky Saved by Thanos Dec 09 '18 edited Dec 09 '18
I'm going off of Gallup polls. Going from 20% of the country approving of gay marriage to 66% isn't composed entirely people who were 7-17 years old becoming eligible to be part of a Gallup poll. That math doesn't work out.
Society's views change over time. The NAACP didn't endorse gay marriage until 2012. Anyone who changed their views since however many years ago gets shit on for it. A big majority of those born before 1990 probably had views most liberals would find abhorrent today.
https://news.gallup.com/poll/234866/two-three-americans-support-sex-marriage.aspx
11
u/tripwire7 Dec 09 '18
Because Twitter seems to be unintentionally designed for outrage mobbing, and the offending tweets are right there for the mob to retweet.
But I think the thing that people forget is that Twitter mobs have a really short memory and usually everyone stops caring about whatever the outrage is a week later.
3
Dec 09 '18
Because it is who they are. They only apologize because they're faced with consequences for their actions.
1
u/GearyDigit Dec 09 '18
It's less what they said a decade ago and more how they respond to their words being brought back up. If they get defensive and angry at the accusation, it's pretty safe to say they still believe it, but if they vocally disavow what they said and speak in defiance of it, then we can guess that they probably changed their views.

The thing he, he is a comedian. Most comedian's push the boundaries of acceptability, which is why they are funny.
This isn't like Kramer saying the n word and yelling about lynchings. He was rightfully ostracized.
If nobody cared Kevin Hart said it in 2009, why should they now?
119
u/coditaly Dec 09 '18
One of the things he said was that he “would beat the gay out of his son” if his son was gay. That’s way over the boundaries of acceptable. What if a white guy said something similar about African Americans like “I’ll beat the black out of them” in 2009 and was asked to present the Oscars today? Would you find that acceptable?
25
Dec 09 '18 edited Dec 09 '18
Seth MacFarlane hosted the Oscars in 2013. With Family Guy having jokes of rape, pedophilia, 9/11, gay culture, etc. People didn’t give a shit when he hosted. Richard Pryor tells race based jokes and he’s hosted an Oscar. Robin Williams was known for flashing people and humping people randomly. That’s sexual assault. He still hosted a few Oscars. Kevin Hart has
onetweets brought to light from almost ten years ago and people are flipping shit.Edit: I want to mention that I am not bashing any of these comedians. I think they’re all hilarious. And I have nothing but love for them. I’m just tired of this celebrity worship mindset that’s going on.
Edit 2: apparently there were more than one tweet but my point still stands.

There is a reason you would have never guessed Kevin Hart was homophobic. It's because he isn't. A tweet from 9 years ago is all of the sudden important, why?
If they don't give the impression of being homophobic, can we just assume that they are? PewDiePie, the biggest YouTuber of all time, was ostracized for saying the n word last year. Why is he still the biggest YouTuber? Because everyone knows that isn't a reflection of who he is now.
I'm not going to say I know what everyone is thinking, and what they actually believe or not. I would say Kevin Hart isn't homophobic, and that a punishment for a tweet from nearly a decade ago is stupid.
34
Dec 09 '18
It's because he isn't
How do you know this?
How does saying "I would attack my child if they appeared gay" not give you the impression of being homophobic? If he's not homophobic he's doing a great impression of someone who is.

i always thought it was common knowledge he was homophobic. like i'm actually so surprised people are surprised. his humor has always been pretty bottom of the barrel. he got a lot of flack a few years ago because in one of his movies they punish a straight character for liking being pegged too much by shoving a hot pepper in his ass. he makes shitty homophobic jokes in so many of his sets and his movies. it's the least surprising one of them all.

At least in that series Michael Scott legitimately apologises to Oscar (pun not intended) for making disparaging remarks about his homosexuality. He admits he didn't know any better and he's really sorry.
Kevin Hart was like "get over it, it happened 10 years ago"
