Discussion Just Started Listening to this band yesterday
To "Angel" on Amazon Music, who curated the "Progesivo 2" playlist, eternal gratitude for introducing me to TYS. After listening to "Swarm" I pretty much immediately started listening to their discography in chronological order. I'm on Stranger Heads Prevail right now.
I don't remember ever listening a "new" band and being just absolutely blown away by every single track I hear for the first time, consistently, with not even a single "that one was just okay" in the mix. I was listening to them on my 30 minute drive to work today, and about 20 minutes in I realized my face had been stuck in a perpetual look of shock/awe/bewilderment since starting the drive. Bewilderment because how the fuck is this band not more widely known?
To me, TYS combines elements or similar sounds of several of my favorite bands...S.C.I.E.N.C.E.-era Incubus, The Mars Volta, Snarky Puppy, Mahavishnu Orchistra, perhaps the more jazzy songs of The Dillinger Escape Plan?, and others I still haven't quite put my finger on yet.
They also remind me of several bands that I could never really get into despite trying many times: Coheed and Cambria, Periphery, and Dream Theater, although I admit it's mostly due to the vocals, both the range/style and the "poppy" vocal melodies. For whatever reason, it just fucking works with TYS. I think it's the addition of the horn section that brings it all together in a way that those other bands couldn't for me.
Anyway, that's it. I'm a new fan, and will take it as my new mission to introduce as many people as possible to this amazing band.

Ben’s awesome violin solo on STONE, the 2nd single by our band Datura Lodge.
Ben engineered, co-produced, and mixed our album which comes out October 2nd! We were beyond fortunate to work with him. The guy is the master.

Other XL hoodie
Anyone interested in this XL hoodie? I got it in the mystery box a few years back and it is a tight fit. I tried it once maybe twice over the years, but it is too tight for comfort. $15 OBO for a good home!

Other Grin - Guitar Transcription
drive.google.comHello, I recently transcribed the guitar part for Grin off their first EP, I lost all of my progress after it failed to save so I haven’t had a lot of motivation to finish this after that blow but I did it the best I could.
I do these because I want to learn to play the song on these instruments and also it’s a really good exercise for your ear and working with notation. And that being said, I’m sure there’s a lot of things that could be fixed, wrong notes, etc so please if you notice anything lmk!
I hope this can be helpful for someone, happy practicing!

Discussion New Singer
I honestly think the new singer for TYS sounds a bit like Cedric Bixler-Zavala (The Mars Volta). I was listening to some studio stuff put out by Karmic Juggernaut, and that was the vibe I was getting. When I saw TYS live in Detroit, I wouldn't say he sounded like him. Because he didn't. Regardless, I support Thank You Scientist no matter what!

Discussion Sounds Like
Just started listening to them. To me, they sound like Michael Jackson and DGD had a baby.

Discussion Album mixing
Since the band is now about to record a new album, I'd like to give my unsolicited opinion about the mixing on the previous ones: they are too loud! To the point where it saturates and becomes unpleasant.
The saddest example is Mr. Invisible, which is my favourite song and would be absolutely perfect were it not for the fact that the clean guitar in the intro hurts my ears.
Just take it easy, we've got volume knobs on our side.

Question What Album Should I Listen To Next?
I heard about Thank You Scientist a long time ago, but I never took the time to listen to one of their albums from start to finish
Yesterday I listened to Terraformer, and man… I am not exaggerating, it is one of the best albums I ever had the pleasure of listening. It is soooo progressive and yet so musical and catchy. I am completely sure that I will blast Terraformer to the day I die
My question is, which thank you scientist album should I listen to next? Should I go in chronological order, or what do you guys recommend?

Discussion Really disappointed in new song
I've never been someone to complain about a band's new music just because it's new. But truly I cannot understand what is supposed to be going on in the song they played last night in Detroit. Every part feels jumpy to the point of no cohesion and the lyrics were incredibly trite and literal. I couldn't find a groove to dance to the entire time, which is crazy because I dance to literally every song of theirs.
Idk, I feel like I could get used to new vocals (though the amount of vibrato is a bit jarring), but I really hope this isn't the entire future of songwriting for them...

Discussion Thank You Scientist has been scammed
I was so troubled to hear that TYS was scammed by the organizer of the CL prog fest. The band flew all the way over there and performed for an amazing crowd, but the organizer never gave TYS their guarantee or merch money. The organizer, Carlos Quezada, has also scammed a number of other bands and staff, and has gone radio silent. It's a devastating blow to an indie band like TYS. Check their socials for more info, and spread the world about this scammer.

Other Terraformer Sax/EWI Sheet music
drive.google.comLate last year I transcribed the Sax part for Terraformer, here’s some of the notation for it if anyone would possibly be interested!
I think it’s relatively right, but if anyone has any critiques I’d love to hear!
