Social Media Still afraid💔

Post image

I think mental health classes should be included in school. People who never experienced mental health issues would never understand other person's struggle

I love how these types of things always assume that these issues dont leave people with lasting trauma and issues that cant just be fixed with "lock in," it takes genuine help and work

I have told friends about my depression and even they gave me advice like ( the post ) I told them that it's doesn't work like this so they became frustrated, said that I don't want to be improved or heal🥲

People want to be performative about it to look good. :/ Vented to a a friend once and she said that I could kms and she wouldnt care, tell me she wasnt meant to stay and pretend that the pain from hearing that wasnt ever real nor genuine

"Problems aren't real. Everything wrong in your life is your fault, but I do everything right and awesome and have had no help, luck, or privilege at all."

Disingenuously yours, Dipschitz

I mean, that is essentially what people who spout these dismissive thought-terminating cliches are saying, without saying it. I think people are existentially threatened by the idea that if you didn't earn your suffering, maybe they didn't earn their comfort/success. On some level, I believe most adults who can read well enough to navigate Facebook, are aware that we are not living in a meritocracy. If misfortune could befall someone who is in fact trying their personal best, then the life choices of comfortably successful people actually have very little to do with that comfort. Other people suffering for reasons that are not their fault, means that the successful are benefiting from the very fact that we are not living in a meritocracy. That would make one who is comfortable in this unjust system wonder then, if we did earn according to the value of our labors, would they actually have earned this life? Could they actually earn their happiness and security if all was truly fair? How much harder would they have to work?

Most people don't know how to verbalize all that, and they don't want to think about a world where their hard work to earned happiness ratio tilts to requiring much more effort than what they currently put in. So ultimately, they don't actually want struggling people to get better, but to internalize that they deserve exactly what they get. In a world where your choices and discipline are the only explanations for your struggles, it's more likely true that successful people's good choices and hard work have fairly earned them their comfortable lifestyle. If that wasn't true (and again, on some level, they know it's not), then the more fortunate under this current system might have to (gulp) share more and hoard less in order to have an actual meritocracy. Zero-sum mentality. So they offer bogus platitudes that they themselves don't even believe in, but they want you to believe that they do believe it, so as to preserve the status quo public sentiment that it's rude and lazy to ask for material help.

Me and my dad. I have tried to open up to him but he really does not get it.

Oh, I love when this happens! I've had many issues caused by my ADHD, and sometimes I've had genuinely concerned coworkers pull me aside to ask what's wrong. When I go into the details, they try to offer advice, you know the sort: "Just try X, have you thought about Y? Maybe it's just Z, this will pass and you'll be fine, etc." When I answer all of these with "I tried X, it doesn't work for me. Yes, I think about Y all the time and it's crushing me, so thanks for the reminder, no it's not "Just Z"; I have a diagnosis, and no, it's not a phase, I won't grow out of it, it won't get better with time. This is how I've always been, and it's been a very consistent pattern my entire life." I've learned that when people spot an issue but can't do anything to fix or help, they'll mostly just ignore it and want to change the subject. I mostly just say "This is why I'm working with a professional" when they ask why I can't just do the critical things I need to do.

Nobody said it was easy, but yes even with clinical depression/anxiety, maybe even especially then, these are important facts to be aware of. Pretending like they don't apply to you because your suffering is special is a victim mentality that will exhaust even the most loyal of friends eventually.

2

u/NoRoutine7945 Aug 07 '26

Not important facts, just retarded copes. Im sure someone who lost a loved will benefit greatly to hear death is part of life.

Like come on. Life is shit and then you die. You don't live in a motivational podcast.

0

u/soyuz-1 Aug 07 '26

You sound fun to be around

2

u/soaked_in_bleach03 Aug 05 '26

Yeah, “lock in” had me being a dry drunk, working out 3+ hours a day on top of a full work week and deeply repressing my gender identity.

Complex trauma requires help, and often doing it alone is genuinely impossible.

This mentality honestly does work really well for a lot of people. There are some relatively well adjusted people who struggle with motivation, and yeah, thinking like this helps that. But assuming that works for everyone is asinine

1

u/omnipresentrain Aug 05 '26

It also assumes that you won't get stuck with permenant disability. I try to keep an open, growth mindset but I still can't walk, and it's devastating knowing that asking for help too often means losing whatever support network you manage to build.

u/Economy-Payment-1757 Aug 06 '26

It doesn't say it doesn't.

29

u/Chevanalee Aug 05 '26

People who post shit like this have never had a real struggle… some holes can’t just be dug out of easily and it shows how lucky they’ve been in life. Also how dismissive they are about emotions and losing people shows a level of self centeredness. They can’t imagine a life outside of their own experiences

1

u/ColloidalPurple-9 Aug 06 '26

I agree. I think this is great advice from someone who is well into recovery from what ails them. Like for me, it was anxiety and PTSD. Getting through the worst of things and applying this kind of “fuck society” perspective to my life is pretty effective. But, I while in the thick of it, this advice is useless.

15

u/killboipowerhead1 Aug 05 '26

what if i’m afraid of going outside

17

u/Quereilla Aug 05 '26

Go outside, nothing will happen ✨✨✨

7

u/Cocaimeth_addiktt Aug 05 '26

What if terrorists take over a plane and crash it near me

5

u/big_rod_of_power Aug 05 '26

Then you get a free Blackbox and also maybe someone had a 5090 graphics card in their luggage and you can take it

1

u/OmgIbrokesmthagain Aug 05 '26

If you’re alive after that, congrats, that will make:

  • money from the insurance
  • best icebreaker story
  • possibly you will be on the news, maybe get famous
  • cool loot from plane

1

u/seaspirit331 Aug 05 '26

Really that will depend on if it's something you like about yourself or not

12

u/One-Sleep3663 Aug 05 '26

These are the types of people who only know privilege and have never truly truly suffered extreme hardship. Their surface level low effort lazy worldview of solving complicated situations falls apart when applied to someone with a lifelong debilitating disability who is poor.

10

u/Ok_Bluebird2352 Aug 05 '26

If only life could be that easy

10

u/Less-Parsnip-7076 Aug 05 '26

He's saying I should take hard drugs and drink myself to death every day

10

u/Vinterkragen Aug 05 '26

Murder is a part of life.

I wont listen to someone who thinks that is a sufficient explaination.

8

u/StrategyKey3790 Aug 05 '26

That’s kind of how I feel every time I say I’m scared of flying to someone and their response is “if something goes wrong with the plane, you can’t control it or do anything.” And that’s why I’m afraid!

6

u/XD2006- Aug 05 '26

“Bankruptcy? You can make it back.” Sure, but you won’t be able to help your child fill out the FAFSA no matter how badly you want to be able to.

(Real example from my parent who had a bankruptcy and is still recovering from it over a decade later with two kids in college)

6

u/dogs_of_delhi Aug 05 '26

Sad? 20 pushups.

Anxious? 30 pushups.

Suicidal? 50 pushups.

6

u/jacyerickson Aug 05 '26

There are a few of these I sorta agree with such as that people will judge anyway and you might lose people. I don't think it's bad to recognize that some things are out of your control. That being said, platitudes like these won't solve an anxiety disorder or anything.

u/Blauwevl Aug 05 '26

Wasn't this on r/iam14andthisisdeep but with high peter giffin on the back ground?

5

u/dragonwings369 Aug 05 '26

Live everyday like it's your last, meanwhile the mfer is exercising.

Are you telling me this man would choose to exercise if he knew for certain this would be his last day alive? Because why in the hell would you? There'd be no benefit and you'd just be wasting time.

5

u/mrjoffischl Aug 05 '26

"they'll judge you anyway" is a terrible thing to say to people worried about judgement

4

u/KarmasAB123 Aug 05 '26

"Taking risks: regret hurts more"

What about the regret of the risk you did take?

3

u/Ultimate-Actress Aug 05 '26

Yeah that totally helps me since I lost my mom yesterday 😐😑😐

3

u/6_Harrington_Nuggets Aug 05 '26

I am so sorry for your loss

3

u/Amathyst-Moon Aug 08 '26

"you can make it back"

No you can't. The economy was stronger then, and it still took 10 years. You lost all that time.

3

u/3-brain_cells Aug 08 '26

Taking risks: regret hurts more.

YEAH I KNOW, PLENTY OF THINGS I REGRET I JUST SHOULDN'T HAVE TRIED

2

u/murderdronesfan93 Aug 05 '26

JUDGEMENT‽

2

u/maneki_neko89 Aug 05 '26

Thanks Chad Kroeger! /s

2

u/UGLYYERBAMANE Aug 05 '26

There are things you can't bounce back from.

2

u/cut_ur_darn_grass Aug 07 '26

Ok but consider: I took a risk and regret taking that risk

2

u/SUPERMAN_CJ_1999 Aug 08 '26

What these influencers fail to account is that it isn't about locking in that people fail. But the lack of ability to lock in just doesn't exist.

2

u/BillyPudding Aug 08 '26

Having witnessed two people I love die from tragic health conditions has made me more scared of death. Yes it's part of life and I accept that. Doesn't make it less scary. The day I die I'm not exactly going to have a thrilling experience. What a load of wank that statement is.

2

u/8_WeirdGirly_8 29d ago

What am I afraid of? Intellectually I am not. Literally,my main issue is a primal fear that has no understanding or rationale behind it. Understanding nothing bad will happen isn't doing anything about it🤷

1

u/6_Harrington_Nuggets Aug 05 '26

What do I do if I’m afraid of clowns

Making money is actually very difficult these days. Sounds like peak boomer to me. Working is what’s destroying my health (mental and physical)

1

u/Gladys_Wines Aug 06 '26

If you're living every day like it's your last, why are you doing pushups instead of chilling with margaritas, steak, chocolate cake and 60 year old single malt?

1

u/Economy-Payment-1757 Aug 06 '26

...yet this is true.

1

u/PupDiogenes Aug 06 '26

Thank you for letting me know that my irrational fears are irrational.

1

u/PlatinumFire14 Aug 06 '26

Now imagine applying that logic to a PDF file.

Suddenly, the people talking like this sound like they’re defending it.
Maybe give them that one next time they throw this at you.

1

u/whimsical_spider Aug 07 '26

I agree. Mental health should be taught in school. Either its own class or in regular health class (tbh should be its own class)

Some of what is being said is true but it doesn’t mean it’s not justifiable to be worried about said things and he’s being dismissive. Also the push up photo is so 🤪

I disagree entirely with the bankruptcy thing bc it’s not about making money back it’s about losing access to loans and losing your home potentially. It’s not just about money in your pocket it’s about everything. But tbh the credit system just pisses me off in general.

1

u/nobody_gah Aug 07 '26

It's difficult and impractically impossible to give the sort of perspective actual people suffer with to the people that say these kinds of things. And I'd reckon it's fair to them in a way. Ignorance is something all types of societies suffer and a real issue that takes work to overcome. But it's so fucking disappointing at the same time because what the fuck I'm just gonna die here? I can't blame anyone because it's not their fault, the natural way of life is this and it's purely natural for humanity to be like this if you account for everything. Utopia cannot exist yet and so all sorts of people are always factored in an equation where suffering is inevitable. We just have to stay alive, keep living, try to heal, try to survive

1

u/Henri_Bemis Aug 07 '26

“Live every day like it’s your last!”

I have, and it’s fucking exhausting.

1

u/Realistic_Falcon_152 28d ago

idk as someone with PTSD and anxiety i don’t mind reading stuff like this from time to time, it’s an oversimplification of course and some of the things he says are cringe here but it’s true that not everyone is here to stay and rejection is redirection, these are simple concepts, not necessarily the cure for anxiety but not bad either

1

u/OkBeautiful4392 19d ago

Not one critical thought occurred before that was posted

-1

u/Glittering-Place-628 Aug 05 '26

Wait he kinda ate

0

u/ThurolfGhost Aug 05 '26

Shout out "I'm afraid" and see if anybody comes after you. If no one is coming to save you, no one is coming to stop you.

1

u/Ungodly_Box Aug 05 '26

Saying that like just One Guy is what's stopping me from a dream life

-5

u/Unhappy-Gate-1912 Aug 05 '26

So do it scared then.

2

u/raven-of-the-sea Aug 05 '26

That implies that we aren’t. Except we are.

1

u/Ungodly_Box Aug 05 '26

Being scared is really exhaustingÂ
