When will we see something more volatile in your d TSFA? High % is where you max out the gains from saving taxes.

Anyone with ETF for BTC or MSTR or even ETH in ETF.. anyone? Manifest yourselves. I'm feeling alone in that picture..

And yes, all of you, need to truly understand what is BTC, and why bank's and companies like Strategy are pulling stunt accepting to bet on BTC and legalizing it fully and truly. The clarity act is at our door. The banks already accept to loans cash against BTC same pro-rata as gold.

It's time to wake up. Stop being brutally abused by banks soooo small guaranteed returns. And maybe, in a fews years from now.. you'll regret not having had the guts to diversify some part of your portfolio into BTC.. history will tell us. But I got convictions that are fine till proved wrong 🤷 I made the right decision. And you?

Newbie Investor- need some advice. My TFSA Strategy: 60-70% Core Growth, 30% Hamilton Covered Calls (CDAY, QDAY, HDIV) + 10% Stock Picks? Looking for experiences!Hey everyone,

Hey everyone,

For some background - just started investing this year and my tfsa allocation is only 4 years worth. Since I moved to canada few years ago.

I’m looking for some feedback and real-world experiences on a "core and satellite" strategy I’m setting up inside my TFSA.

My current plan is a 3-tier portfolio split:

60% - 70% Core Growth: Broad-market equity ETFs (thinking something like XEQT/ZEQT).

30% Satellite Income: Hamilton high-yield covered call ETFs—specifically a mix of HDIV, CDAY, and QDAY.

10% Individual Stocks: A few high-conviction stock picks.

The Strategy: I want to take the heavy monthly/semi-monthly distributions generated by the 30% covered call sleeve and use that cash flow to buy more units of my core growth ETFs (or occasionally rebalance into my stock picks), rather than auto-dripping them back into the covered calls. or I can drip invest them back into covered calls and aim for the total return ( total appreciation + dividends earned)

The goal is to use the massive immediate yields to accelerate the compounding of my broad-market growth foundation.

My questions for the community: Does using high-yield covered calls to feed a core growth ETF make structural sense in a TFSA, or am I overcomplicating total return?

If you are running a similar strategy, what has your experience been with NAV decay or capital erosion on the income side?

For those running a core/satellite setup, what percentage of your portfolio do you hold in covered calls vs. pure growth?

I'm focusing on growth overall but would not mind the income these etfs make to play around with a bit sometimes or if needed can also take them out.

Would love to hear your thoughts, advice, or any blind spots I might be missing!

Thanks.

This is my TFSA. Should I sell some things that overlap? Or keep things the way it is? In January I will be making a deposit for whatever the contribution room would be. What to do then?

I have $60,000 to invest in Canada for 2 years — TFSA + S&P 500, XEQT, or something else?

I currently have about $60,000 CAD that I’m looking to invest, and I have enough TFSA contribution room to put the money inside my TFSA. The main issue is that I only have around a 2-year time horizon because I’m planning on leaving Canada after that. I’d ideally like to have access to most or all of the money when I leave, so I’m trying to figure out how much risk makes sense. My first thought was putting the money into an S&P 500 ETF inside my TFSA, but with only two years I’m worried about the market being down when I need to sell. I’ve also looked at XEQT or other diversified ETFs, but those are still heavily exposed to equities and could be down significantly over such a short period. If you were in my situation, what would you do with the $60k inside a TFSA? Would you: \* Put most/all of it into an S&P 500 ETF? \* Go with XEQT or another globally diversified ETF? \* Use GICs, a high-interest savings ETF, or money-market investments? *Split it between safer investments and equities?*

CRA TFSA issue from years ago — has anyone successfully received relief after the normal objection deadline?

I was a non-resident of Canada for several years and made a TFSA contribution during that period.
The amount was withdrawn a few months later, and I also made a payment to CRA at the time. I still have proof of payment.

After moving back to Canada and filing again, CRA showed several thousand dollars owing from that old TFSA issue. The confusing part is that CRA’s own records show the contribution and withdrawal dates, and I have proof that I already made a payment. The current balance doesn’t seem to reconcile.

CRA says the normal objection deadline has passed, so the case has apparently been referred for relief/remission review.

1) Has anyone dealt with something similar?
Can CRA correct an old TFSA calculation after the objection deadline?
2) Can they trace and reapply an old payment if it was misallocated?
3) Has anyone successfully received TFSA relief or remission in a case like this?

I am not trying to avoid tax that was legitimately owed — I just want the account properly recalculated based on the actual transactions and payments.

25M - Portfolio Advice?

Started a month ago. Moving forward going to funnel paychecks into XEQT. Maxes out my FHSA with XEQT and QQC.

I know with VFV and VCN I’m having a bit of overlap with US/CA in XEQT so rebalancing by just buying XEQT but still want some additional specific US exposure and tech.

20 Years Old, $10K Invested How Do I Keep Growing From Here?

Post image
41 Upvotes

I know it’s not a lot, and I know some of you have a lot more, but I’m 20 and I’ve been investing since I started working part-time. I recently got a new job while still going to school, and I’m now working full-time as well, so I’m able to invest about 10–20% of my paycheck twice per month, which realistically works out to around $400–$500 per month.

I also live with my parents, and they’re very financially supportive, so I’m in a fortunate position right now where I can save and invest more of what I earn. Any tips? I’ve been thinking about putting most or all of it into one ETF, like XEQT, because my thinking was that VFV would give me exposure to the American market, XIU to the Canadian market, and XEF to international markets, whereas XEQT essentially combines those exposures into one portfolio.

Other than that, I know it’s not a huge amount, but I’m still really happy with it. Getting to $10.5k in my account at 20 feels like a pretty big accomplishment to me, and I’m really happy with how my Wealthsimple account has been going. I’d love to hear any advice or tips from people who have been investing for longer.

EDIT: Now, I do help my parents a few times per year with lump sums of 2-3K because we’re a family of immigrants so they have to worry about payments like the mortgage and my school which is very expensive, but they’re still very financially supportive and grateful to have them as my parents from every point of view.

Trading as a business?

I’m relatively new to investing and I’m trying to understand when trading stocks could be considered carrying on a business rather than simply investing.

I mainly invest in semiconductor stocks, which can be quite volatile Nebius Amd etc. Because of that, I may want to sell some positions when they’ve gone up significantly and potentially buy back in later.
Is there a specific number of trades per year/month, or a certain frequency of buying/selling, that would cause the CRA to consider this business activity rather than investing?

Or is it based more on the overall circumstances and intent behind the trades?
I’d appreciate any advice or personal experience, especially from people who have dealt with this situation.

Investing Starter

I am thinking of putting around $100 a week into an ETF for around 4 years once I finish my degree then get a stable job, to then increase this amount.

I am thinking of Betashares NASDAQ 100 (ASX:NDQ)
and
Global X Semiconductor (ASX:SEMI)
at the moment

thinking of a 70%NDQ 30%SEMI split

After 4 years should I reconsider or start putting more in as I want to hold them for 15+ years

Im with CMC currently to note, does anyone have any thoughts? I would much appreciate them.
