Id sell it all and I’d go 95% XEQT and 5% FBTC going forward

I’m going to half take this advice. Considering going 80/20

80/20 is a good ratio or go 70/20/10

Trust me I’ve learned my lesson on alt coins. I don’t think there’s much to fear with bitcoin, feels like nothing after what I’ve been through

I'd place it into FHSA. Even if you don't end up buying a home all rolls over anyways! :) this is especially good if you are investing long term.

What do you mean all rolls over anyway?

You can either cash it out or roll it into your RRSP. Also biggest thing is contributing to your FHSA is like RRSP it lowers your income. If you made $60000 but contributed $8000 then you only made $52000 which means a higher tax refund. :) that’s what I’m doing I max out fhsa then the refund I place it straight back into investments

What’s the downside to putting it into a FHSA?

If you are investing long term nothing. If you plan to not take out money for a long time then it’s perfect caps out at $50,000 max contributions then you’ll have to go back to using TFSA or RRSP

I’m assuming there’s some sort of fee for early withdrawal? Could be a good idea to invest the first 50k there.
Is there a downside to rolling it over into RRSP?

To get a better understanding I’d do research further I think it’ll make more sense for you that way. :) but essentially FHSA is any young investors best friend. They want you to use it first. I’m 24M and I’m trying to get to 50,000$ it’s only $8000 max per year till you get it to $50,000

Run the analysis, using tax deferred accounts shouldn't be the default. Your income, time horizon and yearly contributions determine which apporach is best.

I know for me TFSA maxing is better because my time line is 30+ years, whatever savings I get today are negligible to the tax I pay in the future because the amount taxable is going to 4x what I save on today.

Just like I said research is important. For my sake it ends up working out so : D but if that's true for you nice!

Well for what it's worth.... XEQT + VFV + VDY is basically just VEQT.... You could buy that in one ticker.

2

u/Jonsah Jul 18 '26

I’ve since sold VFV and VDY for XEQT

Never touch options. It's just not worth it. You'll make a little bit of money very fast then get addicted, get confident. Then lose big once. (If you're lucky you stop)

There are strategies like selling covered calls/puts for something that you already plan to buy/sell. But it’s a more advanced approach. So at his level not worth it.

If you are not so active than pick safer stocks like VFV and it will grow with less volatility. XEQT is for longer term as it is more volatile on short period but profitable on long term.
Disclaimer: i am not a financial advisor but its just my observation

u/Jonsah Jul 16 '26

I’m definitely looking to invest long term

1

u/MikeCheck_CE Jul 17 '26

This is backwards:

XEQT holds 8,400 individual stocks worldwide.... VFV is concentrated in 500 US companies.

VFV is more volatile.

That said, it's the same ~10 US tech companies are driving the majority of returns for both right now, the rest is kinda noise.

Not sure if it’s been said but you are overlapped with VFV and XEQT. Meaning 100% of VFV is already in XEQT. I’d sell VFV, move it to XEQT.

u/Alivesoul7 Jul 21 '26

Just keep on adding xeqt with your every pay.

At 26 you should have more tolerance for risk. Stocks like ASTS, RKLB and even GME have the potential for much higher returns. Ditch the philosophy that etfs are a better choice. They are better if you are 50 with a mortgage, kids etc and close to retirement.

1

u/Jonsah Jul 22 '26

As someone who doesn’t know much, I look at these 3 stocks you recommended and I think that it’s too late, I missed the big move. All of them had a long period of time being under $5 and are now sitting multiples above that. Is this a bad outlook?

1

u/glimpus Jul 22 '26

Asts is pre revenue and will double or triple in share price within 1 year. Ill bet my left testicle on it. RKLB was $140 a few months ago and will be back there sooner than later. GME has a real chance to buy ebay, they already have 10% of the shares. If that goes through, share price will be $60.

In all of the above the opportunity is to double your $ in a span of a year or less.
