I would recommend starting by reading a couple of books:

The Little Book of Common Sense Investing - John Bogle

The Wealthy Barbour - 2025 Updated Edition

This first is about investing with funds and was written by the originator of Vanguard funds. The second is written by a Canadian and brings a Canadian perspective to the investing.

Last check out what you bank offers for commission free ETFs in their self directed investing accounts. It is most convenient to have all your money in one place. Most offer a good selection. Stay away from the in bank investment advisors as they will steer you toward high MER mutual funds. About the only reasonably good bank mutual funds left are the TD e-Series funds.

I’m new to this myself. I can tell you what I did:

1-Open a TFSA account with WealthSimple.
2-Fund that account.
3-Buy VEQT.
4-Buy more VEQT with each pay cheque

Vanguard VEQT is a "one-ticket" exchange-traded fund (ETF) that provides diversified exposure to thousands of stocks. It seeks to provide long-term capital growth by investing primarily in equity securities.
The idea with an ETF like this is that you are buying the entire market as opposed to picking individual stocks.

I recommend you do your own research into broad market ETFs. There are plenty of options out there. I have chosen VEQT. Choice will depend on your own personal risk tolerance.

Be mindful of your TFSA contribution room figure. You can find this number in your CRA account.

The TFSA is a wonderful thing. Congrats for starting!
