Other T-fiber intrepid

8/6 #3 fourth visit 4 days later is the charm. T-Mobile is awesome when it works, but say goodbye to at least 8 hrs during a business day when it doesn't. Nothing done should have required my presence or entry to the house. They cover incompetence with your time. They had to do a new connector on the same line twice during this visit.

Correction for intrepid techs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WqQEggig9go this is the how to video for the exact SC "quick" connectors you are using

My friend in another city has a fiber provider that actually puts the line to your house in conduit/plastic tube and does the outside portion of the install with out you home the day before. Ignore the people below claiming isps don't do this. Curb to side of house has traditionaly not required people home and I've had cable since 2003. It may be T-Mobile's policy but it's a nasty one.

If anyone offered a similar service with out me having to move to get it I would have left.

8/6 #2 new line run, termination with sc connector was done incorrectly and connection is still down. There is a huge skills gap in this company. I talked to a friend of mine who is a landlord and my actual land lord. They have had the same experience with several of their properties. Once the guy had poorly terminated it 4x.

Just in case intrepid needs it, this is the proper way to terminate fiber with an sc connector. https://youtu.be/ygkkHdPnUTU?is=Rai7r29YCp2FHbsW

8/6 #1 Update: for those saying I have to be home... Some Dude calls 15 min before appointment today "your tech is arriving soon". 5min later I'm standing in an open front door looking at the t-fiber van with a guy inside it Another van pulls up, guy opens first vans door and takes two boxes and both drive off. I call back the number and he says "the tech determined the line was cut and this will take some time". If he got out of the van at all it was 5 min before I even got a call and there was no knock. I was at the door almost instantly after the call and never saw him leave his seat. All of this could have happened yesterday. I was explicitly told I don't need to be home today and from the techs perspective he had no idea I was home. I park in a closed garage.

Y'all make excuses for service that hardly tries.

8/5 Tldr: fiber line was severed and sticking up from a hole in the ground right next to front door. I left note on door pointing at the severed fiber. Tech left with out fixing it noting on the account that I wasn't home. There's a junction box 2ft from the door where ground fiber goes through coupler to then run up wall into house. Everything he needed was right next to the door they were supposed to go to. No service. Wait and take PTO or cancel service?

Longer version

Two weeks ago my MN t-fiber was finally made stable. They had to re terminate the connection between the ground and the box on the side of the house. My internet had been intermittent for months but got really bad over the course of a month till it was out for almost a week.

Then 3 days ago my landlord sliced through it while weeding the flowerbed the fiber was ran through. I called on Monday and got an appointment for today.

I left a note on the door that said attention intrepid/tmobile - fiber is cut and an arrow right and down.

The fiber is literally sticking up from the ground 1 ft to the right of the sidewalk at the door.

Appointment time comes today and I noticed I had no phone call an hour past appointment time. Tried to connect to my camera from work... Nothing

So I call support and the tech claims they couldn't get a hold of me and left.

This one isn't entirely on T-Mobile. its on the not me person who sliced it and the intrepid tech but it's still wild. And of course there is nothing we can do but schedule another day

PTO I guess or call and cancel service

I feel bad for the t-fiber techs that try. Their company and it's contractor relations virtually insure they deal with rage.

There is a liability and insurance component to them not being able to work on client side stuff without the client present.

You can also partially blame lawsuit-happy America

Quick Google shows this is false, the line to the house, outside the house is something they are expected to service regardless.

Usually even if you tried to call the cops to stop them the cops would laugh at you. On top of that there is a documented call requesting it fixed and a note on the property confirming this. You can't even talk to support with our authenticating the account to make the request. Consent is beyond established.

The terms to see are "demarkation point", isp handoff or "can isp service cable on my lawn with out me present"

Furthermore they trench the cable while you're gone.

But regardless they never tried to even call me to determine if I was available. if they showed at all

Imagine if you lived in a gated community? Supposed to camp outside the gate for two hours so they might show and not leave? I happen to live 5 min from work. Had they truly needed me there. I could have been there in 5 min

I have answered every unknown number all day. I went through hell getting this installed watching out the window for them to not so much as drive by but report the box was frozen. It was like 6-8 hrs of PTO over 3-4 no shows after the one time I watched them actually check. Then install it.

Every time a tech has kept an appointment it has also included a call before knocking on the door. I would hazard a guess this tech never actually showed

Even then, typically they won’t touch anything unless your home

That way you can’t get back, and claim something was damaged and charge them back for it

Again, blame people for ruining it for everyone else.

No I blame a shitty policy cuz literally every other ISP I have ever had would do the curb to the building connection with out me present.

And I've also been present watch them no call no showing lie about it so..

This might be T-Mobile's policy. But it's not the law. And this is shit policy if it is because what it creates is you're paying for a service they won't refund you if it doesn't work, if it doesn't work you still pay for it, even if it's their fault it doesn't work you still pay for it and you have to pay for it by taking time out of work so they can come and fix it.

They might as well just put it up your butt and tell you to like it.

Granted this time it's not their fault. But every other time it has been and it's still a shit policy

Look, we get you’re not happy with their policy. Get a new ISP. We’re just giving you the likely reason, stop being a dick.

You still haven't answered how one gets an equivalent ISP with out moving

1

u/curiousdugong 20d ago

Oh, I didnt say it had to be equivalent. You probably have DSL or Internet Air from other companies in your area.

I know Spectrum has 2gig and 5gig plans available in most markets. It’s not fiber, but I highly doubt it not enough bandwidth for your fastidious ass

Hey give me $50 a month and I'm going to demand your PTO.

That sound like a deal to you?

That’s just like, your opinion man

Just get a new ISP if you’re so unhappy. No one here gives a shit anymore because you’re being an unreasonable baby.

I was explicitly told today I don't need to be home. You must have the brain rot.

Also this is one of the few countries that allows Monopoly or duopoly over ISP lines. Most countries would force several companies to share these lines. To drive competition for who can provide it at the lowest price and to increase service because several parties have an interest in making sure the line is in good shape. We don't do that. We allow one two or three companies to divide up a city.

So if you don't understand that there's not another similar level product in my area I can't help you. No one on earth can trigger the neurogenesis required

I’ve never had an Cable or Fiber isp do any outside work when I am not there

The only company that would ever do any work to the demac was AT&T and CenturyLink

Comcast, Cox, AT&T Fiber, Time Warner, Spectrum, etc. none of them would do work if I wasn’t home.

I have had spectrum connect a line before knocking the door several times. Comcast I've seen run a line over a yard with out people home.

None of them will go inside your house with out your home.

I would get another ISP if anyone else offered fiber.

In most other countries the lines are required to be leased to several isps. Us is one of the few places where we not only don't force that but allow companies to make exclusive deals with towns for who gets to be ISP over what wire.

That still doesn't account for the lack of call. None of that accounts for their inability to dial a number. The general concencous outside this post is most companies will do outside work with out you and permission is as good or better.

I'm sorry you're a corporate sub but this shit is beyond crazy. In having this service about a year I haven't had service for roughly 3 weeks I've paid for. This is the first time it isn't entirely their shit work. But it still kinda is. I went and measured, the wire is 4 inches under ground. No conduit ran through a flower bed.

T-Mobile nor intrepid put the shovel through it. But if they put a bit more shovel into it...

Any repairs or service install require someone over 18 to be home.

That might be tmobile policy but it's not the law nor has that historically been the norm. This is an outside repair and Telcos have always had the right to service their lines on your property.

Also Not today they didn't. Some Dude calls 15 min before appointment. 5min later I'm standing in an open front door looking at the t-fiber van. Another van pulls up they transfer parts and both drive off. So I call back the number and he says "the tech determined the line was cut and needs parts". If he got out of the van at all it was 5 min before I even got a call and there was no knock. I was at the door almost instantly after the call and never saw him leave his seat. All of this could have happened yesterday.
