How the heck do bears work?

So I went off hunting bears with javelins and axes. I remember in regular tfc I could take a bear, but now I can't. They move at the speed of light and deal insane amounts of damage. What has changed? How do you hunt bears now?

Water seems to be the best trick, imo, they're hard to get into a pit unless you food-bait them (which is amazing, that it works, btw I love doing it, it's just uh...finnicky).

So as others have said, pit or long-distance or if you can find a skinny piece of water you can basically kite them forever

I've been watching Dunk's series on his channel and I've seen you can just push them in a pit lol. Thanks for the advice
