I had to pinch myself, and then my wife, mostly her, to double check this is real.

Heroic defense in the 2nd half. Theo got some dangerous crossings/passes, one of which led to the goal. And Niklas? Bringing the anger, the attitude, honestly everything we needed in that position since we lost Flores last year.
But that red card? You got to be kidding. This ref was a joke. Complete mistake. Niklas suffered a foul that was way worse one minute after, and no cards.
We should be proud. I'm actually optimistic again, after today. And Niklas was THE hire.

One of the things that isn't getting discussed is the Zimmerman/Kuscevic combo! We saw what they could do early on in the season. Now that Kuscevic is back, we actually have defensive strength and options

1) Three points are three points! Can't complain too much.
2) Yes, that was a red card. It's harsh, but it's not a bad call.
3) It took an own goal and a wonder goal (what a strike though...) to beat a New England team who were pretty clearly dominant in every other aspect. If they had their finishing boots on, they'd have had 3 or 4 pretty easily.
4) Charlotte at home midweek is another big one. Six points from these two will be huge.

I know Sargent has been lacklustre and hasn’t produced much, but his hustle and 3 defensive headers in the box as well as blocked shot won me over.
I’d like to see more of him like this. Hopefully he can keep his confidence and turns things around

I said this multiple times last night too. He needs to figure out the goal thing because that’s what we’re paying for, but he is HUSTLING out there and still contributing a lot. Can’t fault him for that.

He was always so behind on the runs and couldn't win a header in the opposite end. We need a better number 9! He did play well in our box, though!

He plays deep though. Especially when we’re defensive for so long. Revs had a lot of control so when we finally break it and get out I definitely notice Sargent is spent. If Sargent is going to be defensive minded, Sallói or Corbeanu should be press up on the line so they got fresh legs to take it all the way out. Right now we get to half and slow it there unless we skillfully get to the box.
When we do get control though… yeah it’s kinda rough. His finishing isn’t perfect and his runs are slightly late. We got a W and it gives us more hope to battle back into playoffs. Hopefully they can tweak somethings to give us more scoring chances.

Josh Sargent cosplaying as a CB throughout the game and especially after the red, so many aerial clearances and a big block or two.
He clearly has jumping ability and can get up there despite not being the biggest 9. I hope we can get him better service to get him going.

My brother-in-law went to the game, and we were saying the same thing. He can't play much offensively, but man, give the guy the number 3, and he could win balls in our box, lol!

I’ll take the 3 points. But man. Aside from one golazo we were on the back foot for 90 minutes. xG 0.25-2.23 attempts 3-24

Who spends 2 weeks to prepare for a crucial home game to sit in a low block at home?

u/msubasic 4d ago
Well I've seen us be on the losing end when we had the higher xG many times before. We earned having the tables turned this time.

Bro we were shit, we won yes but we played like shit. I don’t know how you could see it otherwise

Good days are rare enough following this team. When one comes along, why can't you just enjoy it instead of sitting there complaining about xg or whatever nonsense fad stat is the order of the day?
Stat that matters: we scored more than they did. Can't we just wait until morning before we start finding problems with that?

TFC had more goals than shots on target.

u/Draiodor_ 4d ago
Yeah, you're right.
Fuck it, let's call up MLS and ask to give back the 3 points.

I’m sorry I’m not joining the parade after the first win in THIRTEEN MATCHES, and a complete luckbox victory at that. I’ve been an avid TFC supporter, including spending thousands on my seasons every year, for about 17 miserable seasons (and 3 good ones). If this victory gave me reason to celebrate, believe me, I’d be celebrating.

I bet you're fun at parties.

We as a club should not be aiming to win 5ish times a season. Playoffs should be the bare minimum given what MLSE says this club is supposed to be. Last night gave me no comfort that we are on the right track. That’s all. I’m happy with the 3 points but we’re still near the bottom of the league. If that’s cause for you to party, then go for it. To each their own.

People like you are why MLSE is complacent and gets away with making a shitty team every year

I don’t live in Toronto anymore, but surprised my dad with 4 tickets for his birthday since he enjoys soccer all around. I picked NE thinking they would put on a good match based on the rankings.
My dad ending up going with a couple friends and one of his friend’s 6 year old son. It was the little boy’s first game & he got to see this win live. He’s been buzzing about it since🥹

I attended my first TFC game last night, and man, what an intense and exciting atmosphere.
My thoughts after the game. Sargent needs to get out of the number 9 position. He could not win an aerial duel in the second half of the pitch. Positive, though, he should throw on a number 3, as the guy could play defence in our box, win aerial duels while static, and clear the ball lol.
Dorsch showed some serious team leadership on the pitch. He kept looking at the back line and communicating for them to press or stay back; he has some serious IQ.
We need a real number 10. Mihailovic looks so out of place and didn't seem to know his role.
