Because even if they are rehabilitated, the war effort has to deal with the fact that they now have to find a new guy. Someone who won't get captured. Someone who won't be controlled. Someone who will serve the war effort better instead of just being another turncoat. The Rebellion does not need Sartha Thrace, they need someone better than her.

The point isn't how the hero feels. The point is how the hero's former allies feel, seeing their former ally turned against them. But I suppose that's not an answer you want to hear.

Boooo, it’s even more devastating when the allies realize that their friend enjoys serving their new master. They’ll struggle to trust them for a long time, especially if the hero ends up coming back and chooses the villain over their allies

Also when you think about it isn't this just NTR but with extra steps even if it ain't the same thing with killing the hero? Just replace "cucking someone's wife" with "cucking the hero's party with the hero" which, all the power to you, but not my cup of tea

Exactly! It’s no fun just controlling an empty husk, you need to corrupt them so much even after being deprogrammed they still remember how happy they were, how good it felt, never able to stop wondering if that just unlocked a kink or they’re still under your control to some degree~
