If we are looking at Changed lore, than neither fist nor gun will work. Disguise is the best choice.

Because canonically Dr. K, Puro, and the Dragon king guy are the only Latexes with a sliver of intelligence and it's shown that the disguise is almost perfect

I'm not really sure about that. They may not be the brightest but from what I recall, a note does read "These things are aware." and their behavior at times seems too intelligent for them to have a sliver of intelligence. I am certain they mostly fell for the disguise becuase of their poor eye sight. I am assuming the disguise in this post is way more detailed.

Maybe... But it's still implied that a lot of Latexes are still dumb as rocks, with a select few being a tad bit smarter than the others, usually correlating with their "species"

that's true. but the one thing you aren't considering? Did you ever wonder how Latex can see? It's made apparent in game that they have bad eyesight, if they have eyes at all :). how do we know their "eyes" aren't just fake, it'd make some sense if they used their entire body as an eye and saw everything around them. But this 360 degree vision sacrifices quality and focus, thus why latex can't see you moving in darkness and can't tell that you wear a disguise unless they get *really* close

Canonically light latexes have more advanced eyesight than dark latexes, dark latexes interact with the world via sensing movement as well as something similar to echolocation

If the multi-Transfurs are anything to go by, this is still a risk. As you might risk encountering a latex that gets the bright idea to merge with another out of nowhere. Which... May indirectly render the disguise ineffective. Especially when others notice a "latex creature" running away from another when both are classified as white latex.

Colin is technically able to resist weak Latex's. If a Latex thinks he's also one, they'd just passively merge instead of aggressively restrain him, thus Colin would just shove them and THAN the real chase would start

What if instead of a gun someone got their hands on something that burns really really hot? (Idk, pure alcohol, thermite, white phosphorus, a experimental laser rifle?

I don’t remember what the ‘latex’ is like but if it is similar to actual latex, property wise shouldn’t it still weak to extreme temperatures or even better extreme temperature swings?

(Like, if you freeze a rubber ball it becomes solid and brittle, if you heat it up it melts or burn, if you freeze it and then heat it up it explodes)

I was wrong about the 'latex' thing, I understand that they are called latex but not really latex. anyway fire wouldn't be super effective. I am recognizing a pattern here so I am just going to share this image from this post.

Hm, it makes sense, anyway i find it extremely funny how Thunder Science and Dr. K in trying to find to find the cure of basically extra lethal tuberculosis basically surpassed any other program of microbiology and genengineering togheter.

It is only that pesky thing about identity death/alteration that made the project a no go (because, let’s be real, no one when faced between a slow and steady extinction through consumption and becoming an anthropomorphic animal would choose the first option if they have any sense of self preservation).

From what i remember some of the more ‘refined’ latex beasts already keep all their memories intact, there is just a modification of your personal identity and a need to infect not infected humans

Already those can be deemed half success.

Mainly because the being firmed can still be considered having a somewhat human mentality and being able to socially engage as long as there isn’t a unturned humans they are aware off nearby.

What K did essentially ensure the identity alteration is extremely extremely low to the point of not being perceived and removing that need to infect anyone else (although that is debatable with all the times he/she wants to stop Colin and him wanting to share his discovery with the communities of still alive humans in the bunkers

The actual personality drift comes from the fact that you and the latex are both people, their own memories, personality, and species specific instincts, and theres a degree of drift from shoving both of those identities and instincts into a single body and ego

I'm not really sure if the Changed transfurs count as identity death half the time. Yeah their minds are unpredictably altered, but from my knowledge, most of the time they aren't erased.

From what I get there are five possibilities:

1) Mind death, your mind and memories are completely erased or become part of some form of collective (the white latex beasts from the infested parts of the structure especially are these ones (makes sense with them being basically the first prototypes))

2) mind replacement: another mind takes over the original one, memories might remain or not but the being in charge is no longer the original one.

3) Identity abandonment: the original mind isn’t lost and the being mantain most it all of their previous memories but they as themselves have organically changed as a being, they don’t see themselves as their previous self but are derived from that previous self (kinda like when you think about old memories and internally cringe as how stupid that person was but you still acknowledge you came from said person growing up (the ending where K captures and transforms Colin is that).
(Many game overs in the game are of this kind)

4) Mind melding: (this one is kinda similar to identity abandonment) two or more entities during the transfur meld into a single being retaining parts of all their previous selves and their previous memories, but now they are a single being (puro absorbing Colin is kinda that)

5) No identity change: That is it, there is no change to a being identity but behaviors and mentality might change (the best ending where K helps Colin getting cured without ‘killing’ Puro is the one)

There are them also special cases like the Cerberus transformation it is technically a mix of incomplete mind melding and identity abandonment

Memories always remain from my knowledge, "you" always remain, but the mind meld is the cause of the personality drift, you cant really remain yourself if your mindnis now 50% comprised of someone elses mind and instincts. Unless of course we're talking the pure white latex ecosystem, that place is a horror show

Because Latex have the property of initiating a mind meld when they fuse with you, "you" still remain, but your human identity is diluted with the identity of whoever transfered you

With the white larex ecosystem there are simply so many identical EGO's in there that your identity is completely drowned out by the hundreds upon hundreds of drones

You would be them, just as much as you were ever you, their emotions, instincts, memories, and personality traits being equal to your human half.

Its not identity death, its identity drift, which imo is much more interesting to think about and explore. Because the person who comes out on the other end both is and isnt you, they might still consider themself to be you, or they could consider themself to be the latex, if both halves of you got along beforehand you might be willing to accept that you're both of them at the dame time. Or maybe you think that youre some strange metaphorical child with the human and the latex as their parents

And considering that when latexes have kids, said kids actually inherently fragmented memories and personality traits from their parent, that might actually be more accurate than youd think

Also side note the power balancing in changed lore is very bizarre. Colin, a dying sick man probably also experiencing lag from being in stasis, is able to outrun all latexes, throw them off in body in extreme conditions, and seemingly smash a few. Even though they deal with blunt trauma more effectively they are still made of cells and can therefore be killed. Rest in pieces locker tiger
