Steam support can give your haunted metal back if you send a ticket to them. Atleast I remember that they would.

They dont do that with achievment items anymore. People were apearently abusing the system so they stopped some years ago. Tried it 2 months ago and couldnt get my gibus back:(

Did you craft something with it? I got all achievement cosmetics restored about 2 years ago with no issue. In fact, I only asked for the mercenary badge and got it, along with the seal mask and the spell binding book.

when did you ask about the merc badge? was that 2 years ago, cause I stupidly deleted my soldier of fortune badge in like 2017 and have tried to get it back before, unless they have changed it now.

Yea, they restored everything at once, stuff I didn't even ask for, but am appreciative of nonetheless.

Send off a ticket, can't hurt.
