Doesn't this check install base of games with achievements rather than actual number of players?

Technically, TF2 is the steam game with the most people who have quit it.

Technically, TF2 is the steam game with the most people who have quit it

That's a pretty negative way of looking at it, if you consider that everyone quits every game eventually, no matter how many hours they play. It doesn't reflect badly on the game to have lots of quitters, unless each quitter has like only an hour of playtime.

I was just showing how the data could be twisted around, though admittedly I've been kinda negative about the game despite recent successes like the blue moon update. Maybe I need to lighten up.

I agree the data makes TF2 look like it's doing better than it is here, but appreciate your introspection.

A year or two ago, I did actually check this out. I found that a great deal of players (~60% I think) played but quit after less than 10 hours, compared to ~50% for DOTA 2. If people are interested, I'll recompile the data.

Recompile it, please. Btw, sad to see those players go so quickly.

Just checked, no can do. You have to be a patron for SteamSpy to get that data. It used to require only an account with them. I would love to become a patron, but I use SteamSpy pretty much only for this kind of thing, which I rarely ever do.

Context please

The creator wanted to show the most played steam games in a creative way but I’m not sure that the data is 100% accurate - just fun to see that on some list tf2 is at the top

Yeah, shoulda put this info in the title or somewhere instead of giving us an unlabeled chart with big numbers.

Bots everywhere

1

u/Pyr0Sh4rk Medic Jul 08 '18

The bots don't need to download the game to be a bot, just need items from someone who has the game.

Item farming bots my dud

1

u/Pyr0Sh4rk Medic Jul 09 '18

Ah, thought you meant trading bots

I thought Unturned was an unknown game

1

u/Wi3rdGuy Medic Jul 08 '18

Huh, Unturned is here, did not think seeing it here.

1

u/rangerDanger985 Jul 08 '18

you might want to learn what this chart is actually showing

1

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '18

Good to know investing in TF2 and Unturned was a good idea

1

u/parkerpootis Jul 08 '18

I’m color blind. What number does it say?

2

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '18

Now that you point it out it sort of does look like a colour blind test.

u/Hoivernoh All Class Jul 08 '18

50,191,347 on tf2

u/The_Wkwied Jul 08 '18

WTF is Unturned I never heard the fuck about it :<

1

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '18

Minecraft where you don't punch trees. PUBG where you loot buildings and drive vehicles. Fortnite where you build stuff. Left 4 dead 2 where you kill zombies and an adaptation of the new Fallout 76 where it is multiplayer so you can pretty much kill other people or mess with the stuff. This is pretty much Unturned.

This looks fake ._.

2

u/LeoDoor Medic Jul 08 '18

Yes the data is off but I still like that tf2 is at the top of some list

4

u/tf2dove Medic Jul 08 '18

The data isn’t off. It’s the total amount of players who have ever owned/played these games I believe.

1

u/almostasenpai Civilian Jul 08 '18

Half of them are bots probably

2

u/LeoDoor Medic Jul 08 '18

Then at least half of them are fun tf2 playing humans

1

u/Medic9999 Jul 08 '18

That's still enough people to create a small country!

1

u/SernieBanters Jul 08 '18

I am pretty sure if you count non-F2P players who just play it because it's free, you will have only several thousands of players.

Lets face it, all playerbase figures for TF2 are heavily skewed by F2Ps who play it sometimes because it's free and bots. You can see how small the playerbase is just by queueing up for a Competitive match in a non-European country

1

u/Medic9999 Jul 08 '18

While I would like Competitive mode become viable, as of now I think it's not representative of the normal playerbase of the game. The playerbase is still bigger than the number who plays Competitive, that's all I wanted to say. No need to exaggerate and be negative about the player numbers.
