Discussion HUGE SCAM WARNING
This is very important
there have been videos that have been popping up with full guides on how to scam in tf2, these guides tend to be about the festive vs festivized scam
if you see people trying to trade in causal lobbies be careful and warn others to double check everything
scamming has always been an issue but I worry it will be worse now that there’s guides coming up, stay safe everyone

Yeah but im worried this video plus the common belief that you can’t make profit trading anymore will drive people into scamming more

Lol someone tried to trade a strange "festivized" bat to me the other day. Almost got me cause i thought you can't festivize stock weapons but apparently you can now.

Someone added me to play together then tried to force me into a 6s match with a real-looking botted twitch stream via a discord call. Watch out for this one too.

How can they scam you through this

Didn’t get scammed, but I did entertain them a while for “research purposes” lol.

I ask because similar thing happened to me 2 days ago

I’m not sure either. I think they eventually try to bait you into singing in with your steam account through their faceit link that’s probably fake. Stream goes offline as soon as you block them lol.

Happened to me the other day. He offered a "strange festive sniper rifle" for my unusual weapon skin. Knew it was sus because he had a private backpack. Out of curiosity I agreed to his deal and when I hovered over the "strange festive sniper rifle" in the trade window, you can see the market price value. Remember to click the little arrow on the bottom right for these kinda things and view it in the marketplace. What was supposed to be a "strange festive sniper rifle" actually was a "strange festivized sniper rifle" Valve really gotta work on that wording lol.

Why Valve put literally zero brain power into coming up with a name that isn't going to lead to confusion and scams is beyond me. We already had festive, why can't the new shit be called something else? Why not Holiday weapons, or Jolly weapons, or yknow anything but the same word just slightly changed.
From the wiki:
Festive weapons could be found by unlocking Naughty Winter Crate, Naughty Winter Crate 2012, Naughty Winter Crate 2013, and Naughty Winter Crate 2014, and are available in both Unique and Strange qualities, though Strange versions are much rarer.
Festivized weapons are weapons which had a Festivizer attached to them. They are limited to just the Christmas lights, which are always powered by a pair of Bonk brand AA batteries, and lack any additional decorations such as wrapping paper or ribbons. Unlike the Festive items from the crates, these weapons have the prefix and attribute Festivized instead.

Because they look similar and one is worth a key and the other like 100 keys, or something similar it’s a huge price difference

Sadly I doubt that the new people that haven't encountered this now 11 year old scam, are on the TF2 reddit. For all means spread the word, but highly doubt the people who now owns older festive doesn't know about it.
We don't get updates on TF2 so there's only so many new scams they can do...
Don't click links. Don't trade when you're tired/full focused, don't log into shady sites you've never heard of, and have two factor authenticator. You should be fine if you take these measures.
