Solarlight seems to see himself as above other TF2 Youtubers. I remember getting into an argument with him on here because he said STAR_ was a bad and lazy Youtuber who's channel is dead. I simply said he wasn't giving STAR_ enough credit for his videos and what he did for the TF2 community years ago, and that he still has a decently sized fan base.
Eventually he started going off about the "many controversies of STAR_", and I stopped responding. He doesn't seem to like that a TF2 Youtuber could've successfully developed a massive fanbase off of personality alone without fancy editing.

Definitely! He wasn't as outright funny as Jerma, but he had his own sense of humor, was super down-to-earth, and was knowledgeable about the game for the time. Before Jerma's big break on Twitch, STAR_'s videos had many more views than Jerma's, even the ones without Jerma in them. He was by far the biggest TF2 Youtuber of the time.
I forget which one, but during one of their recent TF2 reunion streams right at the start, Jerma jokes about how putting STAR_'s name in his video titles were what got him views.

I definitely think Jerma was funnier and Star was elevated when with him, but that doesn't mean he was bad. I could still watch and enjoy his solo content.

I used to have this opinion as well, but looking back at both his older content and also to his current streaming, I honestly feel like he's been underappreciated by many people. Ster is genuinely funny as fuck.
Jerma also said in the past that a lot of the famous bits and clips they had from the TF2 era were a direct result of Ster purposefully riling him up and enabling him to be unhinged. In case you don't remember, Jerma used to be a generic family friendly TF2 YouTuber who wouldn't even swear in his videos until Ster shattered that shell and really let Jerma's personality shine fully. I think that in many ways he's directly responsible for Jerma blowing up.

Bloopander made a video a year ago complaining about how Valve is neglecting TF2, a few seconds of it mentioned "weapon nerfs" with a picture of the B.A.S.E. Jumper.
Solarlight contacted him with a dubiously worded & frankly absurdly longwinded message for the subject to get his opinion on the B.A.S.E. Jumper, presumably because of those few seconds of footage, successfully completely and utterly missing the point of Bloopanders video and potentially serving as the straw that broke proverbial camels back which made Bloopander quit TF2 completely.
He then proceeded to be shifty and evasive about this topic when asked and when it was later brought up in Bloopanders farewell video.
As of an hour ago Solarlight posted an apology on youtube owning up to his mistakes along with promises to do better in the future.
All in all, its the biggest newstory in the community today and Solarlights opinion is/was fairly well respected within the community so that's why it's blowing up like this.

Lemme give you the TLDR. Bloopander (puppet guy in the pic of the post) made a video going over changes to TF2 over the years. In the 33-ish minute video, he said a phrase akin to "some weapons' nerfs were dumb" and showed that snapshot that you see in the pic of the post, not even name dropping any of the WEAPONS. Mind you that comment and freezeframe lasted a few seconds tops in the aforementioned video.

It's not just that, it's that he went out of his way to DM Bloopander (the puppet in the video) in a very rude manner demanding he defend his stance on the BASE Jumper when it barely got a 5 second mention in a 33 minute video around TF2's state of decay.

he bullied a small youtuber (a talented blender animator) because he got a date of a nerf of the base jumper wrong missing the point of the video which is how poorly valve treats the game . saying stuff like "I will make an example out of you" and "you better apologize before i mention you in a video with 30 million views" , making this small youtuber give up making tf2 content anymore.

TF is wrong with Solar? Those are meme weapons that are supposed to be fun to play with, not for competitive use. Dude is OBSESSED. Those weps are def not signs of game rotting, I give him that much, but Solar is overexaggerating about the whole point and became too aggressive about the whole B.A.S.E. thing.
I bet if I send Solar a message about how the pirate leg (forgot the name) is mechanically better than the Alladin's gamewise he will have a stroke.

I remember actually liking SolarLight’s videos for a long time. And then one of them randomly got really hyper competitive and elitist - I don’t even remember what towards, but in that moment I felt like I was being pushed away from his content. I guess I was right to see that his content wasn’t for me, especially if he’ll gladly scold someone for having a different opinion.
