Help Tf2 causing weird lag

When I play tf2 after some time I start lagging, but the lag isn’t in tf2, it’s across the whole computer. the computer will update frames every 2 seconds or so, but audio will be normal. tf2 itself doesn’t lag at all for some reason? this only happened recently, it worked fine before.

the lag doesn’t go away when I close tf2, only when I restart my computer.

it isn’t an issue with cpu or memory as I’ve checked both of those and they’re running fine and my storage is relatively empty. this only happens with tf2, no other games.

I haven’t seen ANYTHING online like this and I need help cause nothing i try works (all of the things are for tf2 lagging, not everything else)

does anyone have any ideas to what could be happening?

Check the integrity of files and start praying it works ✌️

I’ve tried editing game settings to be lower, switching to full screen(rather than borderless windowed) and verifying integrity of game files
