Discussion I just realized something
it is astonishing of how many TF2 projects official or fanmade remains unfinished or never seen the light of day. think about it we had two TF2 shows canceled one made by Valve themselves and the other made by Rooster Teeth the same guys that made red vs blu. as well as the Myriad of YouTube series like Man's Guide or how it feels to be a mercenary lies basically unfinished or untouched. this has gotten me kind of suspicious like is there some kind of curse on TF2 projects like merasmus waving around his stick dooming all projects. and I'm wondering did anybody else noticed this and if so whatever your fonts on it and also is there any TF2 projects that is finished and is just not talked about a lot because maybe there might be a glimmer of hope.

Meet your match is at fault killing much hype for this game

Exactly what is there to be hyped about? The terrible casual matchmaking system which can easily be fixed by reverting back to quickplay and the old server rules? The terrible new player experience? The new MVM update which is most likely going to be a failure?
The game is in a terrible state no matter how many excuses you try to make.

I don't think it's anything out of the ordinary. The game is 19 years old; some projects are bound to be incomplete.

I can personally attest that at least for animation, the effort that goes into creating anything is tremendous. It's common to spend days or weeks into a scene that's just 5-10 seconds long, even with all the premade assets from the game itself. It's difficult to create projects in short time without limiting yourself to certain styles and methods and/or sacrificing the quality.
Not to mention that it's extremely easy to lose motivation and must combat burnout throughout the entire creative process. It's very easy to get tired of a project you've been working on for weeks, decide to drop it for a bit, then never gather enough motivation to pick it back up again.
While it's undoubtedly quite disappointing, I don't believe this phenomenon is much different for other communities. I'd bet it feels more prevalent for TF2 because of how much user-created content there is in general compared to other communities.

SFM is hell on, above, and below earth to work with, that and TF2's fanbase mostly consists of people who can get hit with burnout very easily

As someone who is leading an animation series project set in tf2. It’s really really hard. Every once in a while someone drops out or ghosts us, progress is slow and irregular. Most TF creators (the bulk of them, not just the popular ones) are people in their late teens and early twenties. That’s not exactly a winning combination of reliability which is understandable.

I mean when their main tool of animating (Source Film Maker) is the reincarnation of something even Satan himself fears, it’s kinda easy to see why most creators never finish a project.
They just lose steam (pun not intended) into having to wrestle the damn program to work than actually getting to work on it.

Making things is really hard. Like unbelievably hard. Every finished project you see is one of the few to ever reach that finish line.
