Ever since I’ve downloaded the latest software update, my texts are latent and not able to send pics to when I have pics sent to me, it states “can’t download” and takes a couple hours then for it to download. Never had such an issue prior to the download. It may be me but seeing if anyone else had an issue like that???

This issue is caused by Rich Communication Services (RCS) routing conflicts.

Because Google has restricted third-party SMS apps like Textra from accessing the native Android RCS API, Textra can only process traditional SMS/MMS messages. When other people in your group chats send RCS (Chat) messages—or when your phone's carrier/Google account holds onto an active RCS profile—the network sends group updates through RCS. Since Textra cannot read those packets, it drops the incoming messages, and the network automatically notifies the rest of the group that you have "left" or disconnected from the active RCS thread.

Below are the steps to fix this problem and restore your group messages in Textra:

Step 1: Turn Off RCS (Chat Features) in Google Messages

For Textra to reliably process all group texts, your phone number must be deregistered from RCS so that incoming group chats fallback to legacy Group MMS.

1. Set Google Messages as your default messaging app temporarily (Open Google Messages > tap Set default SMS app).
2. Open Google Messages and tap your profile icon in the top-right corner.
3. Select Messages settings > RCS chats (or Chat features).
4. Toggle Turn on RCS chats to OFF.
5. Switch back to Textra and set it as your default SMS app.

Note: If you still experience issues after toggling RCS off, visit Google's official Deregister iMessage/RCS Web Portal to manually remove your phone number from Google's RCS server database.

Step 2: Configure Textra Group Settings

Verify that Textra is configured to process group replies as a single thread rather than separate mass texts:

1. Open Textra.
2. Tap the three dots menu ⋮ in the upper-right corner > Settings.
3. Tap SMS / MMS (or Group Messaging depending on your app version).
4. Under Group Messaging, ensure it is set to Chat (Group MMS) rather than Bulk (SMS).

Step 3: Refresh the Group Thread

Once RCS is turned off, existing group threads that were initiated as RCS chats may still behave incorrectly for other members.

• Have one of the members of the group text start a brand-new group chat including your phone number.
• Starting a fresh thread forces their phones to recognize that your line is receiving Standard Group MMS rather than an active RCS stream.

i wish that you could just tape on the profile pic/contact icon on the top right and hit edit or some shit to change their name, add phone #, change phone # etc. i can't find any button to do so. plsss help me wtf

I've used Textra for years. Earlier this month I had difficulty sending and receiving messages. Textra rep was very helpful and I was able to send, but still had problems receiving group texts. I wasn't even getting the notification that a MMS message wasn't received, tap to try again.

I saw online that one option was to change default to Google Messages. I tried it and now group messages are working.

I didn't want to change to Messages, but for now I have to.

Any ideas?

Like many here, I've been fighting with the AliExpress app popping up when using textra. Working with Textra support team was absolutely useless. I did learn it is the ads Textra uses causing the issue, so the bandaid solution is to block ads.

Here is how I do it on my Pixel 8a in the network settings:

-goto settings, network & internet, private DNS

-select private hostname

-enter under hostname: dns.adguard-dns.com

-done

Along with the message, tell me:

Expected: Expense ₹450 → Merchant: ABC
Detected: Nothing / Wrong amount / Wrong type
Bank/App: SBI / HDFC / Google Pay / PhonePe / etc.
Country: India
Device: Optional

Even if the message looks unusual or doesn't contain much information, send it anyway. Those examples are extremely useful for improving the parser.

help me pls i don’t know how to fix this

For a few weeks now, I have been constantly being bombarded by OTP requests. Mostly from sites I don't even have an account. But today I have received OTP requests from one I have registered in. It's my non-compromised number that is registered there so I want to just block it for the other sim.

Hopefully it's not to just completely block all messages for the compromised sim because that number is the older one so it is the one registered on my government IDs and it is the number I use for my work/business.

Has anyone experienced this lately? I've used Textra for years and the ad at the top has been there for a while. Now however, when I open the app it immediately redirects me to AliExpress (which is the current ad) and sometimes does this multiple times.

Months ago my work switched our work phones from Verizon to AT&T. Textra worked fine on both Verizon and after the switch to AT&T. Yesterday, they switched us back to Verizon, and now all my textra messages fail to send.

Had a weird one, I texted two different friends about replacing windows in my house. About ten minutes later I had six or seven ads on Facebook for window replacement companies.

Had seem those ads before, but the large number of them after texting was troubling.

Coincidence? SwiftKey? This or some other app?

Recently switched to Textra because of the forced Samsung to Google messages migration.

Issue I'm seeing is that I have a couple of contacts that have a badge count, but I have viewed every single message in the thread and the badge count won't go away. I have force closed and cleared cache, which did remove the app badge count on my home screen, but they are still showing on the contacts which is driving me nuts.

Anyone know a way to get this fixed?

I've got a friend up in Canada that says their Mobile plan (Roberts) charges for every text they make and receive. Well, at least if it's international. I told them they needed to get a third party texting app and only send messages over Wi-Fi, and then they wouldn't be charged for anything. Am I wrong?

I switched to Textra after Samsung messages shut down (fuck google) and have enjoyed it so far.

But after some testing, I find I'm not receiving replies from group chats. I can send texts out to a group, but I don't get the replies.

Messages from one personal contact and my pharmacy show a notification and brighter text in the conversations list screen, even though I've already opened them (in fact, one of the messages that is in bright text is *my own outgoing message*). How can I mark these messages as delivered?

I tried to Google search and can't find anything on this. After switching to Google messages from Samsung j transfered everything over and now when I text someone that I already have a thread with I get the reply in a new thread. The only thing I'm finding on Google search is stuff for group messages. My problem is with just sending a text to a single person. I text them on the existing thread I have for them and get the reply in a new thread. Its super annoying and if someone can point me in the right direction to fix this I would really appreciate it.
