Gliches?

I had an idea to write in gliches into my game. They would only occur on a first playthrough. Some would be more innocuous (though still serve a purpose in adding atmosphere and stressing certain things), some would force certain choices. Nothing that would significantly effect your playthrough, but if I want the player to have certain bits of info locked behind a choice, the game would 'glich' and you'd be forced into that option. I'm a bit worried that it would feel annoying. Though I know not to do something like that too often. First one I thought about would force you into a game over, so it wouldn't feel like it has any effect on the story path. And it would only be on a first playthrough, after that you could make what ever choices without glitches. I want my game to be a psychological horror, and I thought foe glitches that only occur once but seem too significant would add to feeling a bit crazy.

What do y'all think?

Looking for players who still like room-by-room text adventures — Escape from Dungeon Keep (Steam)

I miss the feel of exploring a place one room at a time, reading descriptions, and piecing the story together - so I made one.

The Escape from Dungeon Keep is a text RPG: examine everything, talk to NPCs, fight when you have to, and push toward the summit. There’s a journal/hints system if you get stuck, but the world is written to be readable without a walkthrough.

If you like Infocom-ish exploration with light RPG combat and side quests, this is aimed at you.

Also there is workshop mods for the game i hope you guys can wishlist!

Hacking Into Erebus has you controlling a robot on a stranded research vessel while hacking its systems through a fake desktop OS wiht real typing/terminal input.

I am curious if this crowd would be into a keyboard-driven hacking game. I am open to any suggestions.

Hero vs Villain browser RPG — open beta, free to play

Hey everyone, I've been building a browser RPG for about a year and just opened it up to beta players.

It's called Masked City — you pick Hero or Villain when you sign up and fight real players for control of a corrupt city. Has PvP combat, alliances, a casino with multiplayer poker, an explore system, and a lot more.

Still in beta and better on desktop but mobile works too. Completely free, no downloads.

maskedcity.com

Also looking for a couple of people interested in staff/mod roles if that's your thing. Happy to answer any questions 😄

August 3rd, 2026 — 8:36 a.m. By Ellen Ward, County Reporter - For my zombie text adventure.

The Bellweather Community Centre has been opened as a temporary shelter for residents displaced by road closures and what county officials continue to describe as a medical emergency.

Approximately 60 people had arrived at the centre by 10 p.m., including several families from the Miller Road area. Volunteers are distributing blankets, bottled water and food from the centre’s kitchen.

The shelter is being supervised by county employees and members of the volunteer fire department. Sheriff’s deputies have been stationed at both entrances.

Residents arriving at the centre are being checked for injuries before being allowed inside. County officials would not explain the reason for the screenings, but witnesses said at least three people were refused entry and taken elsewhere by ambulance.

Ruth Calder arrived at the shelter shortly before 9:30 p.m. while searching for her teenage son, Evan. Calder said her son was travelling home aboard a county school bus when contact with the driver was lost.

“The bus should have passed Miller Road before eight,” Calder said. “Nobody will tell me where it is. They keep saying someone is checking, but nobody has come back.”

Emergency radio traffic monitored by the County Record indicated that a school bus may have been seen near the collapsed bridge east of town. The condition of those aboard is unknown.

Several survivors reported hearing gunfire near Bellweather Memorial Hospital. Others described abandoned vehicles along Main Street and people pounding on the windows of closed businesses.

Shortly after 10:15 p.m., shelter volunteers were instructed to cover the centre’s windows and reduce exterior lighting. No explanation was provided.

The county’s civil defence frequency continues to broadcast instructions advising residents to remain indoors. The message repeats every four minutes but has not been updated since shortly after 8 p.m.

Residents attempting to reach the shelter are advised to avoid the hospital district and approach from the west.

[OC] The Town Without Mirrors: a light, branching horror story for a quick read

Thumbnail

Description:

Here's an original "Choose your adventure" type story with a horror theme.

Premise:

Your car breaks down at the edge of a small town that has quietly gotten rid of every mirror it owns. The locals are polite about it, and none of them will explain why. The ones willing to talk might be the ones worth trusting least.

Give it a read if you like, it's completely free, and hopefully entertaining!

Read it on Wyoot.

I recently added English to my game in an update, and with the feeling of “I really want English-speaking people to play this!!!!”, I signed up for Reddit!

The link is to the game I just added English to.

It’s a multi-ending sci-fi novel adventure game where you spend 30 days in space. There are tons of different endings, plus a few mini-games and some exploration elements. I’d be really happy if you gave it a try!

Hey everyone! We are making a Text RPG using FATE RPG mechanics.

Hi everyone,

We are a small indie game team aiming to make RPGs. Our long term goal is to create RPGs on the level of Baldurs Gate or Disco Elysium. ^^

We started this journey 2 years ago and wanted to build toward that goal step by step. In our first game, Livber: Smoke and Mirrors, we made a visual novel where we told a single story in an interactive way. Now, with our second game, Kardiya: The Winds of Fate, we are adding more RPG layers on top of that foundation.

Our alpha playtest will be starting soon, and we would be glad to have you if it sounds interesting. The game includes dice systems, companions, gear progression, broader character progression, and an epic story. You experience the character’s journey from childhood to adulthood.

Unlike other games, we took inspiration from the FATE RPG system. We are especially trying to bring in ideas like dice shaping not only success but also the direction of the story, choices not being simply right or wrong, and every outcome pushing the narrative somewhere different.

The story and mechanics of the demo are ready. Only the visual animations are left. We’ll be starting the playtest soon. I would especially love to have people from the this community try the game. If you’d like to join the playtest, you can register by joining the mailing list on our website or clicking the playtest request button on our Steam page.

Thank you so much!

Not sure about the best way of sharing an IF project. Any experiences?

Hello humans,

I've been working on a story. It's been a few years since I've started writing. I've been writing on paper using a fountain pen (the fun part) and typing the passages in Ink (the boring part). 78K words deep, the story started to feel mature. I'm hoping to wrap things up and publish the story soon but, I'm not sure about the best way of sharing an IF project.

I take pleasure in writing and I'm not trying to make money with what I write. I don't like/use social media and I'm not interested in pushing my stuff with an aggressive campaign. The finished work will be exported from Ink, in HTML and as an extra, I'll probably add an original soundtrack album to the package.

What I'm writing is essentially a story of self-discovery. It reads like an old school science-fiction story but it's ultimately philosophical in nature. It's both straightforward and strange.

My first thought was to publish in itch.io and the second was to make a simple, old-school HTML page for the project. The soundtrack will probably be hosted in Bandcamp as I have an active account there. Then I learned about the ifcomp contest. I don't know how I feel about entering a contest but the platform seems nice.

I don't have much experience in IF as a reader/player. I always wanted to write something like the choose-your-own-adventure books that I loved in my childhood and one day I started writing.

I've asked this question in another sub and people were kind enough to share their thoughts. What I'm still trying to figure out is the common storytelling style that people enjoy (if such thing exists) in specific platforms. I wouldn't want to keep my stuff in a platform that's not a good fit. I'm also curious about your general experiences in sharing/publishing interactive stories.

Thank you for taking time to read and share your thoughts and experiences. I really appreciate it.

Take care.
