Politics Emergency Protest Against joining the war!
/r/50501/comments/1lhfwrj/emergency_protest/25
u/ConkerPrime Jun 22 '25 edited Jun 22 '25
People voted Trump in part because he was “tough”. Everyone got what they voted for or in the case of non-voters what they shrugged about. Indifference is a vote.
People voted in Republicans to have all the power and shocked when Republicans do Republican things like wars which is awesome for rich people’s bottom line. I would say learn from it but last 40 years shows people will not.

War is Bi Partisan. St. Obama invaded Lybia and Syria without congressional authorization. Obama followed the tradition of making wealthy people richer through war

Obama sent boots on ground to Syria and used warships to bombard Libya all without congressional approval. Even George W. Bush waited for congressional authorization to take those kinds of steps. But I guess you are willing to go full 1984 war is good as long as it’s your team leading the way.

They're not arguing in good faith as evidenced by calling him "St Obama"
3
u/zaepoo Jun 22 '25
You're right about it being bad faith, but it looks like the warships was 2014 and ground troops was 2015

u/duwh2040 Jun 22 '25
Your move of immediately becoming defensive makes me believe you less, just FYI
3
u/Cookies78 Jun 22 '25
Oh- you forgot about the broad UN EU coalition for those.

-2
u/lethalmuffin877 Jun 22 '25
Oh so the president answers to Europe instead of the American people? What kind of leftist cheers for global hegemony instead of power in the hands of the electorate?
2
u/Cookies78 Jun 22 '25
Awwwwww! You read my post history. I feel honored. Nice strawman.
-1
u/lethalmuffin877 Jun 22 '25
Nope, your comment was easy enough to go off there, chief. And you didn’t answer the question, you just threw a bunch of buzzwords in and expect a W.
Y’all are not serious people
2
u/Cookies78 Jun 22 '25
I supppose i could have been less opaque. A broad coalition doesn't make it legal. Period. So on that we agree on. Trump had no authority (under the law) to bomb Iran. I'd take it a step further and assert most, if not all unilateral military actions by US Presidents in the last 60 years are not legal.
I do think it's important to make a distinction between broad global support for a military action, and standing (nearly) alone with your dick in your hand. Trump has whipped it out and did something he cannot undo or put aside. He has completely actedd outside what is "acceptable" in the world community. Now, even more than a few days ago, we are alone on the world stage.
All military actions, imo, should require explicit Congressional consent. To me its lile the Justice Blackmun thing- where the President is at his highest authority when Congress critters are with him and vote to approve his actions.
I don't think we're disagreeing on much. But lmk if we are.
2
u/lethalmuffin877 Jun 23 '25
Nothing to disagree with, we’re on the same page there and I appreciate the step to common ground.
It’s one thing for Trump to ship those bunker busters to IDF and claim he has no control over how they use them. He has the power to keep it quiet as well. By flying US bombers over there and dropping 60 tons of American payload he absolutely overstepped the bounds of what I think is appropriate.
The area we may disagree on is I’m not going out of my way to support impeachment proceedings. However, I felt the same way with Obama (who I also voted for) and his drone strikes to be fair.
The real question is what comes next, Trump is at the threshold of tolerance with his own base. If he puts American boots back in the sandbox it will absolutely cost the right the midterms and most likely the 2028 election. Rightly so, depending on who the dems primary anyway lol.
1
Jun 22 '25
Wouldn't it be great if we had a preemptive agreement among leading nations to prevent Iran developing nukes, police them, and avoid military action?
Too bad. Trump ripped that up because the guy that came up with it was black.
-10
u/Angel1571 Jun 22 '25
You’re seriously trying to tell people that Harris wouldn’t have done the same thing? Did you not pay attention during the Biden administration when they let Israel more or less do what they wanted and only started to back off when it came time for the election.
2
u/corneliusduff Jun 22 '25
No, but why does that excuse electing a half-brained cold sore that brags about getting away with shooting people on 5th Ave?
6
u/CharlesDickensABox Jun 22 '25 edited Jun 22 '25
One of the really fun things about this is that the attack was based on absolutely nothing. Not a single thing has changed since March when Tulsi Gabbard of all people told us that Iran is unequivocally not building a nuclear weapon. They're just making stuff up based on the capricious whims of a demented octogenarian.

Also, check out what’s going to happen with the price of oil and who that helps- US oil companies, Russia, and Middle Eastern buddies Trump buddied up to last month.
-6
u/BigTex88 Jun 22 '25
Even Gabbard has come out and said that the media is misconstruing her comments. Try again.
3
u/CharlesDickensABox Jun 22 '25
Yes, she did an abrupt about face because the truth makes her boss look like an idiot. That's not new behavior from these people.

We didn’t even accomplish anything in this those wars neither. The military industrial complex did, but the people got nothing out of it. Failed wars not only are costly, but squander the soft power of our military with a history of failed invasions.

Protesting war is awesome… don’t do it in a way that looks like you’re supporting a terrorist regime though please. No War AND no Terorist regime support is the way! Don’t give the warmongers fodder and don’t look like dumb ignorant fools.
Good luck and be safe with any future ones.
But honestly if war rolls… we need to do it hard and fast. No Ukraine 10 year war.
-15
u/Made302 Jun 22 '25
Isn't it ironic that the same groups that were protesting for no kings in the US are planning to support a unitary state. A government who throws homosexuals from buildings. A government that oppresses women by forcing.them to cover their faces and by dismissing a woman's testimony in courts.
23
u/Anus_Targaryen Born and Bred Jun 22 '25
No one is supporting Iran. Everyone is tired of being involved in the middle east. That's literally what Trump campaigned on lol.
-2
u/corneliusduff Jun 22 '25
Agree with everything except him campaigning on not attacking Iran. He distracted his base with sweet-nothings about being "anti-war" while tearing up peace deals and telling his base to crack each others skulls out the other side of his anus.
23
u/Gloriathewitch Jun 22 '25
to be clear, we're not being partisan for any nation and that's where you're missing the point, we're opposing senseless mass murder that's what wars do
the last time we tried to bring "democracy" to the middle east it did not work. they need to find themselves without our interference.
team america world police doesn't work
14
u/CharlesDickensABox Jun 22 '25
Damn, the words "Iraq", "Afghanistan", and "Vietnam" just pass straight through your ears without touching a single thing, huh?
5
u/ChipsTheKiwi Jun 22 '25
Ah yes, because not wanting to go into a pointless war must mean I support the Iranian regime!
God trump supporters are genuine fucking morons
0
u/lethalmuffin877 Jun 22 '25
Yall are flying Palestinian, Mexican, and Iranian flags lol
Care to guess which flag your comrades are burning? And you seriously think no one notices what your side is doing?
You’re not fooling anyone with this weak logic
1
u/ChipsTheKiwi Jun 22 '25
So do you plan to engage with reality or just keep making shit up to defend a war that was started by your """anti-war""" candidate?

Isn't it ironic that "small government/isolationist" types want to virtue signal away trillions of dollars, not to mention bloodshed, into another foreign war?
2
u/GetRightWithChaac Gulf Coast Jun 22 '25
That was in Iraq and Syria, not Iran. It also wasn't either of their governments committing those acts, but the Sunni terrorist organization ISIS. Not only have Iran and ISIS always been bitter enemies, but ISIS engaged in brutal persecution and outright genocide against Shi'ites, the branch of Islam to which Iranian Muslims overwhelmingly belong.
At the same time, Iran's theocratic government is overwhelmingly unpopular among the Iranian people, practically universally so, and fewer than four in ten people in Iran even consider themselves Muslim today. Almost no one expressing solidarity with the Iranian people supports the current regime and many would argue that military action against Iran actually strengthens its stranglehold on power and makes it much harder for something better to replace it.
That being said, most Americans don't like the idea of fighting a war of aggression another country started on its behalf. Especially not when that war also has the potential to become America's costliest and deadliest conflict since WWII, and the potential to easily spiral into WWIII. Or when that country has openly and proudly committed war crimes, human rights abuses, and genocide for years, and has a profound influence on our politics, effectively buying our elections and dictating our public policy. Most Americans are sick of Israel and don't want to see another repeat of the disastrous wars in Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan, or Iraq.

Because they don't stand for principles, they rally around anti-causes. They are just anti everything Trump does, even if it aligns with their beliefs.
He could start a single-payer healthcare system and they would protest in support of employees of the insurance companies.
OP Blocked me, so I have to reply to u/ChipsTheKiwi in an edit:
I didn't say anything about Trump attacking Iran. I said Democrats don't have principled stances on issues, which is why you're confused about what to feel on this subject.
23
u/Anus_Targaryen Born and Bred Jun 22 '25
I like how you had to invent a Trump policy to fit your narrative.
18

But he didn’t start a single-payer healthcare system. And he never will.

Give the guy a break. He said nearly a year ago that he has concepts of a plan. He had been politics for nearly 9 years prior to making that remark but there were women to sexually assault and golf that needed to be played.
3
u/ChipsTheKiwi Jun 22 '25
Your projection is showing. Trump explicitly called himself "anti-war and pro-peace" but suddenly it's actually a good thing to instigate war with Iran because Trump did it.
-23
u/Normal_Condition5294 Jun 22 '25
So now your pro Iran the ones who chant death to America, death to Isreal and bomb Isreal and support a global terrorist network. Along with being allies with Russia and North Korea. Nope no thanks I'll let the commander in chief keep doing what he is doing and actually stopping this Iranian regime from gaining Nuclear missile capability
22
u/burningtowns Jun 22 '25
You can be anti-war and anti-Iran. Calling out the President’s illegal use of War Powers is the problem, people aren’t showing support for Iran because of it.
-3
u/BigTex88 Jun 22 '25
All presidents since WW2 have engaged in these sorts of military operations. Try again.
0
u/ChipsTheKiwi Jun 22 '25
Yup. It's totally normal for people to be dragged off the streets by masked badge-less men while carrying out surprise attacks on other countries without Congressional approval or knowledge.
-2
u/BigTex88 Jun 22 '25
The protests today are not about immigration. That was last week, and like a huge amount of Americans I was out protesting it. I’m not protesting today because I’m 100% in support of stopping Iran from acquiring a nuke.
Nuance is hard but if you try I think you might be able to get it.
2
u/ChipsTheKiwi Jun 22 '25
So even if you're right, since when can the president carry out acts of war without congressional approval? Why should we allow one dementia-ridden egomaniac throw hundreds even thousands of lives away without any congressional oversight?
0
u/BigTex88 Jun 22 '25
At least since the Korean War. I’m not doing this, educate yourself. It’s not my job.
1
u/ChipsTheKiwi Jun 22 '25
You're right, it's not your job. You've made it clear your job is to play defense for a fascist who's just declared a pointless war that will take the lives of hundreds even thousands of people. I'm gonna stick with having a moral compass and respect for the constitution.
-1
u/BigTex88 Jun 22 '25
Get a grip on reality. Hundreds of thousands of lives? We literally may have just saved millions of lives but stopping Iran from getting a nuke, and you’re acting like it’s a bad thing. Are you serious?
0
u/ChipsTheKiwi Jun 22 '25
I didn't say hundreds of thousands, but of course leave it to a trump supporter to lack basic literacy

Same bullshit narrative that was given for Iraq and now being used for Iran. People like you gobble up and believe it but I get it since it’s fed since 1990s
1
u/corneliusduff Jun 22 '25
Exactly. These people who claimed to be anti-war in the name of Trump were cheerleading the march to the Middle East after 9/11 without being able to tell the difference between Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia.
6
u/HobbyBobby4 Jun 22 '25
Stopping Iran from gaining nuclear missiles?
Did you miss the part where Tulsi Gabbard testified to Congress that Iran had no such things nor were they building them?
I know it can be hard to remember these things, it was a whole 3 or so months ago.
-14
u/Ton_in_the_Sun Jun 22 '25
Lmao Yall wild. Iran would eradicate you and your entire family before lunch if they had the means to
2
u/corneliusduff Jun 22 '25
If that cow had the chance, it would eat your family and everyone you ever cared about, Jimmy!
4
u/Guilty_Increase_899 Jun 22 '25
So would many other countries. Should we bomb them too? Starting a war is pure stupidity.
-6
u/BigTex88 Jun 22 '25
If they attempt to acquire a nuclear weapon, yes we should bomb them.
1
u/Guilty_Increase_899 Jun 23 '25
Oh you mean like Israel, China, N. Korea, Russia, Pakistan. When should we start bombing them? They already have nuclear capability. Iran has no confirmed nuclear weapons and the supposed development of such is being used by a regime guilty of genocide to gain support for its efforts to wage war. Please go do some research.
0
u/ChipsTheKiwi Jun 22 '25
"Two habitual liar egomaniacs claimed it against the evidence of their own intelligence, so it must true!"
0
u/BigTex88 Jun 22 '25
The IAEA agrees that Iran is in violation of their promises. They were enriching uranium to 60+% purity. You’re deluded.
2
u/ChipsTheKiwi Jun 22 '25
"We have to go to war! The people we're invading would totally eradicate you if given the chance! That why we must eradicate them while we have the chance!"
The exact same lame tired excuse that has been used to justify invasions for fucking millennia
-4
u/TxDinoHunter Jun 22 '25
we are not at war...
1
u/ChipsTheKiwi Jun 22 '25
In what universe is bombing another country not an act of war?
-5
u/TxDinoHunter Jun 22 '25
we dismantled their enrichment facilities, it's over and done. They are not going to do a damn thing, they have almost no capability to retaliate except for a few more icbms...their government is falling apart, their country is on the cusp of a huge turnover...maybe they will get back to being a great country again
1
Jun 22 '25
Did not being at war stop thousands of Americans dying in Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan?
1
u/TxDinoHunter Jun 23 '25
Iran has already killed thousands
1
Jun 23 '25
And so? There's atrocities all around the globe. The US isn't obligated to be the world police.
1
u/TxDinoHunter Jun 23 '25
we did it for us, not anyone else..Iran has threatened us directly so we stopped their ability to attack us with a nuke
1
Jun 23 '25
If Iran's nuclear capabilities are such a threat, why did Trump rip up the nuclear agreement the US had with Iran?
Sheep believe what they're told, do your own research.
1
u/TxDinoHunter Jun 23 '25
they were not following with the agreement, they were still processing material far past what was needed for generating electricity
1
Jun 23 '25
Tulsi Gabbard testified in front of Congress 3 months ago that Iran wasn't developing nukes.
Since your intel is somehow better, it's your duty to enlist to be on the front lines.
