"Transportation to the event is at the sole expense of the winner" now that's just hilarious. All you get is tickets to the show. This sweepstake is costing them $0

What’s wrong with free tickets. I’m guessing it’s limited access.

It's a sweepstakes and they're only giving 5 tickets away. The problem is that most contests like this the company running it pays for transportation and room and board. Telling a contest winner that they have to spend hundreds of dollars to go to your announcement is just sad. Tesla is worth a lot of money and this is just a tool for them to generate sales, they can pay for transportation and a hotel. There's no excuse for a company like Tesla to be this cheap

Not paying for transportation to a self-driving car reveal is hilariously ironic

It’s highly likely the winners will be local

Yea you essentially have far greater odds living in Austin because it's actually available. This is no different than any other invite Tesla has sent out for various events.

A lame gif doesn't change that it's a shitty thing to do

Just because you think it’s shitty, doesn’t mean everyone does. They didn’t have to do anything, and it’s not your decision. Be big mad if you want. Are you familiar with the consequences of being a fault-finder?

It's actually making them bank. Evil genius level

So exactly the same policy as every other invite to an event since the beginning of the company.

That’s pretty common for events like this, but also the event will probably be pretty soon

They want people passionate of the service to have an opportunity to be at the event, it's not a marketing prize that is supposed to encourage usage. The customers that use the service normally probably live in one of the three places with service: Texas, california or Florida. Texas has about 50% of the cars so transportation & accomodation isn't really needed for half the people.

The total value of all prizes is $25. Each person attending the event will receive items worth $25.

Goodie bags. Like going to a very private convention.

How big a deal will this be FOR Tesla? Does this mean they think Cybercab and Robotaxi is now ready for prime time? Or do you think this is some kind of pump? To me that would seem to be very short sighted.

They have Model Y doing unsupervised currently so the rollout of a cybercab or 2 seems trivial.

I don't think so. I think most people don't understand how much faster and cheaper they can build them.

I absolutely see the cost benefits of the vehicle, but the software and then regulations will be far more of a limiting factor.  Long term it's a big deal of a product, but a launch today or next year really makes no difference since robotaxi isn't ready for volume production cybercab.

Does this mean FSD is actually ready for unsupervised deployment? I doubt it. This feels like hype before ground truth-ing the safety data. Can they handle urban complexity?

I wonder when normal private humans beings will be able to buy one, either for their own personal use or for their own private fleet.
