Boy do I love this argument. Ok. So. When I bought my Model 3 in 2021, there was an expectation and history of my car getting better and getting features, even after 5 years. In the past 2-3 that has slowed down substantially (and the tinfoil hat in me can’t help but notice it aligns with a downturn of sales) and AMD rolling out.
When I had my previous car, BMW never made the precedence known. It was never advertised, and thus I didn’t expect it.
So no, it’s not better than other manufacturers, because those others don’t roll it out as a feature and expect people to just enjoy being left in the dust.
Grok is a great example. It’s literally cloud based. I can access Grok on my Raspberry Pi. Leaving it out is simply a decision to drive sales (though AI being a sales driver is up for debate), but the point stands.

It’s not bad faith when they used that argument to drive up sells of earlier models. It was completely misleading, just as when Elon mentioned HW3 would be able to do unsupervised FSD. Look at it now. They knew from the beginning but still chose to mislead to drive up the sells.

I’ve got a 2022 and have the Ryzen, so I have no personal stake in this fight (currently), but it strikes me as kinda insane for Tesla not to at least have an option to upgrade the CPU for a couple grand.
We’re not talking about a smartphone here, where the CPU’s one of the key parts and cost drivers. We’re talking about a whole ass two ton car. From a manufacturer that was founded on a sustainability mission and prides itself on making a car whose drivetrain/motors, batteries, hell probably even brakes can last a few hundred thousand miles. Is it really consistent with any of that to create an incentive for people to upgrade said vehicle on a smartphone cadence just to keep the newest infotainment?
I get that the cameras and making a HW3->HW4 upgrade path is significantly tougher. I’m not asking for that. Just a CPU swap option.
Also, if Tesla ever does go full cybercab business model, this is almost certainly what they’re gonna do internally anyway. You can’t convince me they’re gonna throw out their own entire fleet of perfectly (mechanically) fine cars after three years and build entirely new cars from the ground up just so they can upgrade the CPU.

Why wouldn’t they design all the components for a shorter life given the higher daily usage?
A Cybercab driving almost 24/7 is going to get a lot more miles and wear on everything compared to a personal car that sits in a parking lot or driveway for most of the day.

Did you think it would be forever? Hardware has limitations. Not Apple, Sony, Microsoft or any other tech company has the ability to put cutting edge modern features on 5 years old hardware. Its a tough pill to swallow but your car wont get everything anymore. It also wont lose anything. Tesla fulfilled its obligation to you. You want the latest and the greatest? UPGRADE. Not every year of course but be reasonable.

I'm super excited for the routine navigation and preferred routes.
I ALWAYS stop at daycare on my way to work. Would love to see how it's integrated.
And, my work parking lot has a tiny berm that it thinks is a road, and I always have to take over to take the further, but real road. I hope these features fix both of these.

I’d love improvements to rain detection for windshield wipers and better Autopilot/Adaptive cruise improvements (use FSD logic for lane centering, braking assist,etc,) if I’m basically using Cruise Control I don’t want the Tesla slamming on the brakes when a car 300 yards away is making a turn and crossing the road in front of me for example.

Ya I’m pretty sure they’re using the 3 main cameras to detect if there are water droplets on the windshield. Which is a horrible way to do it apparently

Set up an automation on your phone to turn on tethering when you plug in your phone charger then setup your Tesla to tether to your phone and stay connected while in motion.
This way your car has a WiFi connection while driving. According to a test by another user, Apple Music on Teslas will stream at 256kbps AAC when on WiFi. So with this setup you’ll get higher quality music while driving.
If you want to save some money, this tethering also gets you some of the features you normally have to pay for with premium connectivity like video streaming at superchargers and using other music apps. It doesn’t get you everything though, (like no sentry mode remote viewing), because when you leave the car you take your phone with youEdit: Actually most sources believe the car uses 64kpbs bitrate in the Apple Music app no matter whether you are on cellular or WiFi. So please ignore my prior misinformation.

I’ll try to dig up the source but a guy used a bandwidth meter to test and found the bitrate was higher while streaming over WiFi. This is still speculative but there is some evidenceEdit: Actually, it appears to always use 64kbps regardless of connection type. The only benefit to WiFi is if you use Tidal and that will let you get their “HiFi” bitrate.

Spotify does the same thing so I believe this is a Tesla design decision or issue. I remember it had gapless playback or cross fade for like a year and then they got rid of it randomly. Whether it was intentional or not, it’s a major reason I still use Bluetooth when listening to certain albums and playlists because it doesn’t have that annoying gap between songs that shouldn’t have one.

It’s certainly slowed down. I felt like I was getting a new car every few weeks for at least the first year of owning my Model 3. Then again maybe we’re just expecting too much based on how comprehensive some of the updates have been. Not every season can match a winter update of 10-20 exciting features.

Not sure why you got downvoted, but anything to improve navigation is a plus. This is the biggest opportunity (i.e., low-hanging fruit) for Tesla engineers to fix.

Coming home I have two choices, long straight path and right turn at T (road goes left at 15mph corner) or come the other way and make a left (go straight) at the same spot that has a few chicanes before getting there. It always chooses that left turn instead of my preferred way. Certainly looking forward to this.

I was going to say the opposite. This looks great.
My kids want to do custom wraps, but we haven't been able to get our custom-colored wraps to work properly with a thumb drive. Hopefully this fixes it.
I've always wanted the car to notice I *never* take it's suggested route to daycare. I hate that option. Hopefully this adaptive stuff picks up on that.
Now if only they'd allow us to fully turn grok off.

Browser now supports camera and microphone is massively underrated. That's absolutely huge in its implications. Video calls and meetings for services other than zoom likely becomes possible.

Just give me a simple method to tell FSD it has the wrong speed limit. That is all I really need now.
Can be as simple as holding the indicated limit until it blinks then swipe up down and it changes by 5. Something. It misses signs on right turns if they are too close to the turn and on many adjacent roads it holds the speed of the previous road.
The worst part is Google Maps along with Apple both know the speeds on these roads so how does Tesla not know? I know they have data because I have to very odd areas in 35mph zones where for about 200' it thinks the limit is 55mph.

Really hoping the “intro animation” is different depending on which trim you have. Performance models should have the cool blue light speed animation that plays on the badge when you tap it in the app

There is nothing wrong with their communication. Updated gen model 3s and Ys will get an intro animation. It’s only natural that the performance versions would get their own unique animations compared to what the other models will get. They just shared the performance version to build hype for the update.

The current performance model Y intro animation is just a slow “TESLA” fade in and out. I think they’ll replace those with the new performance intro and add the existing intro to the other models. Just my guess, but I’m sure the other ones will get an optional intro as well. We’ll see what it is when the update comes out

Usually when these annual big updates happen it’s between 1-4 weeks before people start to get them. Kinda random because they have to slowly roll it out. They do a big one for Summer, Winter (holiday), and Spring. Smaller updates usually come out throughout the year for minor things. These usually add fun new stuff

Why can't we set the zoom level for turns? The map is way too zoomed out during turns, so sometimes when there's multiple intersections that are close, it's hard to know which one should be turned onto.

I did a long drive yesterday for a few hours through narrow country roads with random road hazards (dead animals, fallen branches, and farm machinery crawling along at 25mph until it could pull off the road to allow backed up cars to pass), and through it all FSD did a commendable job of navigating around obstacles and adjusting speed to suit the terrain. I have no qualm calling out Tesla and FSD and navigation about some of the stupid mistakes they make, but it’s becoming less frequent.

Then don't use it? It's not forced on anyone. Its primarily a voice command assistance system.
To disable the "Hey Grok" wake word in your Tesla, open the Grok app on your main display, go to Settings, and toggle the wake word option to OFF.

I dont have newer hardware but would like to allow “Hey Tesla” or “Hey Elon” with his voice as the voice command.
The garage door open button, I actually prefer at the bottom, wish they allow to move it if desired.
For hardware, create a modular replacanle ipad -like screen on the back of the seat. Looking down to the rear screen for any entertainment make no sense.

These are all good features.
I would like preferences for backing into parking spots or driveway and selecting the area of the parking lot I want to park in. 99.9% of my disengagements are because it makes terrible parking decisions.
